MacBook Pro exploded

>2011 MacBook Pro
>gf's secondary computer

It wasn't touched since last night. Suddenly 10 minutes ago it exploded. Followed by a second explosion.

What the actual fuck is happening?

I don't smell anything and there was no smoke. Is it possible that there is toxic smell-less gas coming out? The fuck do I do?

>MacBook Pro exploded
Nice to see a company stick to its roots.

((( they ))) want you dead.

OP here. It's worth noting that I personally don't own a single Apple product.

This MacBook is from 2011, before I started dating my gf.

Is there any chance to get something from Apple? Like bitch about this so that they compensate us? Or I should just put this laptop in the garbage and move on?

>Is there any chance to get something from Apple?
An upsell to the newest Apple Macbook """""Pro""". :^)

Should've bought thinkpad.

eBay. Mactoddlers are brainlets and will pay tons for a piece of shit as long as it has a fruit logo on it.

And hate to break it to you, but your girlfriend is one of them.

Well FUCK. I thought that's where the harddrive is. But looks like that's the battery. wtf do I do?

Funny way to spell Dell Latitude.

I know it's leddit but I would go to the apple subreddit and post that image and ask them.
They're all faggots but they've dealt with it before and generally apple staff browse it, too.
My boyfriend submitted an image of his exploded ipod and they just sent him a new one with two free pairs of headphones and a case after posting there.

pics or didn't happen

If u a boy then GTFO
If u a girl then "TITS OR GTFO"

>My boyfriend

Hey user, on a different note... are you into threesums? We have a lot in common you know... an exploded laptop and such.

I know a lot about the apple subreddit being full of faggots and have a boyfriend who uses apple products.
You can probably assume my gender by those two things, bby. ;3

Hahahaha wtf is your deal? You want a company to do something for a laptop your beta loving gf bought in 2011?
>fucking white people

I'm actually an immigrant - from the land of sand (middle east shithole).

scrap it or take it to a technician, wtf do you want us to say? press Cmd+u+r+fag to start restore process?

>"gf"

funny way to spell "my new laptop won't post Sup Forums pls help"

I just thought it might be a fire hazard.

Also, perhaps there is a way to convince them to send me a brand new something... like an ipad?

>I just thought it might be a fire hazard.
That's all apple products.

>having to mention that you have a 3DPD gf in every single post

well it obviously is. put it in a bucket outside and take it to a store or wherever the first thing tomorrow.

jesus.

Contact apple support and explain the situation and provide proof when they ask for it. I kid you not they will probably send you a free updated macbook for the potential danger you were put in. Warranty or not the fire hazard that exploding macbook could have caused will have the support sucking your cock.

Yup, they have always been pieces of shit.

Just want to make sure you understand (((( I )))) did not purchase an apple product.

Forgot to add that you have to phrase it as what can we do to fix this macbook and stress the danger of what could have happened. Don't directly demand a replacement.

hmmm, gonna give this a try.

Man i miss the old MacBook guts. Damn Ives and his thin fetish.

is this the extra bass version?

>implying

This is just one of the downsides of Lithium ion/Lithium polymer batteries. When they fail, they fail pretty catastrophically. It takes just a minor structural defect or a brief short for them to go boom. Considering the laptop is 6 years old, it's not surprising it's failing. I've seen swelled/blown up batteries in all kinds of devices.

The iBook G4 doesn't have this problem, OP.

probably just the battery. these thin meme devices are usually using soft batteries that may explode if you bend them or something hits it too hard.

Pretty common for 2011 MacBooks. Almost all of the 2011 Model, they've all had the trackpad popped out and the bottom bent (And/ or a dead graphics chip).

Like they give a flying fuck about something that's older than 30 days

>girlfriend
>macbook
>battery explosion
you fell for the fucking bait Sup Forums

Old batteries will expand like that.

...It likely didn't "explode" but the pressure of the expanding battery built up inside the case, and it gave way at once (i.e. you were hearing it fail mechanically, not "explode" chemically)

the older models with hard covers didnt have this problem. only rhe modern shitty chink batteries with soft covers do it.

Wasted.

I had a white plastic Macbook and the (removable) battery expanded (after maybe 4 or 5 years of use). Although it's pretty obvious when it's happening in those and easy to just get a new battery before it wrecks the rest of the computer.

The problem with these unibody non-removable-battery Macbooks (and all the other ultrabooks of the same build) is that it's not as obvious when it's happening, although I bet your girlfriend's case was bulging was bulging a bit for some time before.

Well OP now you have cancer no from having lungs full of lithium

Side effect of using Apple products

They won't send you shit for a 6 year old product. Batteries go bad over time. take it apart outside on a non conductive / non flammable surface and see how fucked the motherboard is. If you're lucky (likely not seeing the way the case is) you might be able to salvage it.

>batteries explode all the time
Is this the life of Apple users? I have owned exactly one Apple laptop and it scorched the power cord and bloated the battery. Good thing I threw it away before housefires started.

Do you honestly think Apple is using different batteries from everyone else?

This is just what happens sometimes with old batteries. Nobody ever said your battery would last forever.

I have owned multiple HP, Acer, Apple and multiple Lenovo laptops. The Apple was the only one that did that. So yes, they are different. Even now I still own a laptop (that I don't use anymore since I have many) that's now much older than the Apple ever was during my ownership. The battery is not broken or bloated or setting anything on fire. Maybe they didn't try to save one millionth of a cent per battery by making it a little worse.

Your computer is out warranty, buy a new one you dumb fuck. Apple doesn't owe you shit on a 5-year old laptop.

Probably those previous laptops didn't have lithium ion batteries.

It's true that Apple has been leading to charge to make li-on battery cells thinner-walled to increase density, but everyone else has followed suit.

Curious OP: if the laptop still starts, what is the cycle count on the battery?

>Dat Superior Apple build quality

That's what happened

just how common is this really though?

I'm always a little worried about my old handhelds. recently fired up my PSP and was surprised it still charged...

It's really only common with Apple hardware.
Apple insists on using rectangular battery cells.
And combined with poor quality control you get these issues.
Cylindrical cells barely ever go wrong, and higher end brands have better quality control.

>Is this the life of Apple users?
Pretty much. Applel have been shiting out overheating trash for decades. Just so happens that batteries don't like being heated up to boiling temperatures.

>everyone else has followed suit.

Everyone else except Samsung first ensured the technology is safe and reliable before selling it to customers.

Apple takes much bigger risks because shaving one mm off is a huge deal for them and their customer base is extremely loyal and will whitewash any issues.

Heat is probably a major contributor, yes.

Macbooks have terrible cooling to begin with.
When you then also have a metal exterior that transfers the heat to the battery you'll run into issues.

that's reassuring. thanks!

Underrated.

Does anyone use cylinderical cells in laptops anymore?

Let your gf describe and post pics of it on as much social media as possible. They exposed you to explosion and fire hazard, let them freak out and compensate.

I'm sure budget laptops do.

And yes, the larger external batteries are cylindrical.

>They exposed you to explosion and fire hazard

>swelling is an explosion and a fire hazard.
>every time I get an erection I have to call 911
