Gnome sucks and it was a step backwards
they managed to make gnome less customizable than it already was. you can't even change the appearance without it looking broken. I don't blame you from switching back to Xfce, it's lightweight, customizable and functional.

nobody said extensibility is bad, but having to do it to get the most basic customization is. If I wanted a "don't touch anything" OS I'd be using macOS or Windows 10. The whole point of Linux is you controling your OS and not the other way around.
