whether it's open sores or not doesn't matter, it's whether (and how much) people are being paid to work on it. you can't just tell someone to put a ton of time and effort into something without paying them and then expecting a good outcome.

this shit is so simple. fuck off.

Ironically, the tesla on the bottom is open source.
But it's a bait thread anyways, so that doesn't matter.
Fug off

/thread
>car manufacturer
>open source
really makes me think

Basically yes.

But consider the following:

Would you rather drive a car that you build up and modiefied to your needs, or would you rather buy a brand new car with basically no option to customize it to your needs?

Top: "free but needs tweaks"
Bottom: "Paid and is target of 90%+ malware etc etc”

yes but the bottom may start driving itself without your permission and it's illegal for you to fix it

Hoarders can get piles of money,
That is true, hackers, that is true.
But they cannot help their neighbors;
That's not good, hackers, that's not good.

When we have enough free software
At our call, hackers, at our call,
We'll kick out those dirty licenses
Ever more, hackers, ever more.

Not really. It's just that as companies grow they tend to start prioritizing profit margin in a different way. Often that leads to up selling products which lack features.
I'm currently in development of a proprietary product and it's plainly obvious to me that the gain the customer could get from an open source solution is just massive because the customer provides so much of the value to this product that their direct involvement would be very profitable. Might even start a new type of career if this kicks off. But it'd definitively cut our profits seriously. So it's closed to hell.

a new one.
I don't have special needs and neither do most people

but if I make one myself and dont share info doesnt it basically become a closed source

You are mistaking semantics for actual discussion.

>tesla on the bottom is open source.
Exploiting OSS and trying to make a bunch patents is not open sauce.

>Ironically, the tesla on the bottom is open source.
And Tesla has the worst build quality of any car on the market. You just proved OP's point.

>do some shit work you hate anyway
>got paid
If you think it's superior, than you have shit taste.

The new Camry will use Linux. Ford at least used wangblows for the infotainment, but who cares.

How is this fucking thread still up?

sadly yes

If so, why MS use kubernetes BSD networking stack among many other free software?

Fun fact :
The Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust implemented a hybrid design before tesla
The tesla design is probably inspired by the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust

Nah, not. But the fact is that open source (especially "free software") is not just not worth it. There are better less mentally taxing ways to grow e-penis.

Open source is now the most corporatively exploited development method. It taxes the developer without monetary benefit in form of pull requests by minimum, and it exploits the paid workforce by having free goys do the job which "justifies" paying less for implementing said components on something else, and even worse, expecting results in hours no matter how bad or nonexistant the documentation is. It's a nightmare.

toplel

OP would you build your own car if you could?

patents are open source

that's the whole point of patents.

but a IQ

>oss powers servers, handhelds, gaymin consoles, is used to research bleeding edge technologies
>closed source used mainly to attract idiots as customers whose only use is facebook, facebook and watching movies before and after facebook.
Very accurate pic related you have there.

As an /o/tist these treads always trigger me hard because it insinues kit cars aren't a thing.

You can. You can pick a junkyard v8 engine, build a car around it and smoke super cars in stop light racing. A 1000lbs car with a 150hp engine accelerates just as fast as a 4000lbs car with a 600hp engine.

its another braintlet nu/g/ thread about open-source(shared source) =/= FOSS

theres a big difference lads

FOSS also can be paid for ie like a burger

foss(libre) open source(shared source) and gratis free(beer) are all different things

this is why stallman has to be so autistic about language because you faggots cant even tell the difference

I don't have money.

Then shut up and get a fucking job.

no retard

I work at Microsoft and know the answer to this one. It's because there's no centralized control of what projects use what technology; if we hire someone from Google as a tech lead and they want their 3-person team working on a tiny microservice in some remote corner of our cloud offerings to use Kubernetes, they can do that. When someone says 'Microsoft uses tech X', the actual case is often that one of Microsoft's hundred thousand employees decided to use that technology. So Microsoft ends up using just about everything.

No. Open source is more like pic related vs. a Mercedes Benz

>needs 9 hours to charge
>can only drive about 300km without shitting the bed
Meanwhile I can fill my car up in 5 minutes for 50 bucks and drive 3 times that much

Mother fucker you get a job at tesla everything is set for you. You have a huge resume tick you have an amazing work environment in cali, you have a pretty decent salary, and you are building cool fucking electric cars. I don't think you are unhappy or unmotivated working there.
