Raspberry Pi

what is a Raspberry Pi good for?
I have one but don't know what to do with it.

Use it as a low power VNC client to get into remote desktops.

Learning to kode.

Flash coreboot on motherboards.

Or copy shit between drives without having the large PC running all night.

I installed openmediavault and use mine as a NAS.

It works well, you can also install pi-hole and block ads.

i used it for pi-hole and making my shitty 2003 printer a wireless one

learn to program on the hardware level

shove it up your ass

NES emulators at nerd-themed bars

Install pi-hole to block ads at the router level.

Install kodi

What?

I turned mine into a bar-top arcade. RetroPi image on raspi's site runs great. Just install raspian and play around with it.

tfw just got the latest model pi for free because amazon fucked up
honestly not sure what to do with it, I had a project idea but it requires a 3d printer which I'm not getting until christmas/black friday deals

I have a webcrawler running on mine.

I barely used it until I learned about VNC. Honestly, it is soo much better when you don't have to plug a keyboard, mouse and monitor into it.

-Host image server with tagging
-Host ebook/comic reader
-Host rss reader
-Play music
-Kodi
-Emulate games
-Block ads on your network
-VPN
-personal cloud

i use openmediavault with the plex plug in. works decent, as long as the transcode is simple. some hq anime doesn't play though. I also back up a macbook via time machine to it.

Install gentoo

I find that streaming anime through the SMB/cifs sharing is the best option.

I used mine to use as a low budget computer to hook up to my TV. I use it to display monster manuals, maps, and spell tables to my D&D group.

Install an anime

Stream it in original quality, so it doesn't need to encode

There are a lot of uses, I have one too but it's more of a toy for me than a tool. The best things include
Retro Gaming
Low end shitposting machine
Web Server
FTP Server
Media Streaming Server
PiHole
VPN
Programming

>what is a Raspberry Pi good for?
Librebooting your thinkpad

git server, SSH machine, backup machine. low resource shit like that.
pretty neat actually, don't need much.

>hook up a shitty external HDD and connect the pi to your home network
>then add "database administrator" under the work experience section of your resume

kek

build a roboter with ros

i kind of want one but i dont even know what id do with it

What is special about the Pi that stuff like the Beaglebone can't do? I don't have any of these micro board devices.

>want to order odroid c2 to use as a tv box
>shit's out of stock
Mildly upset.

>What is special about the Pi that stuff like the Beaglebone can't do?
Huge community, and huge existing library of software. That's pretty much what raspberry pi has going for them, and it even makes it a better choice over more powerful sbcs.

>Low end shitposting machine
Nice

I turned mine into a transparent proxy running MITM software so I can essentially filter traffic based on whatever I want to.

It's slow as fuck though so right now I just block shitty third-party ad sites. I wouldn't have done this if I didn't need a project for uni though

This thread just made me realise that I should host a server though. I've been wanting to write some scripts to pull content from as many booru APIs as possible and provide a better service to porn users.

How secure is the rPi as a web server? Is it smart to run it on my home network?
