So when is this shit going to be dropped from GPUs already?

So when is this shit going to be dropped from GPUs already?

There's literally no reason to use DVI-D over HDMI or DP in 2017.

Fuck off

I'm still using DVI since it's what my ancient monitor uses.
So there.

>get the same quality as hdmi for 1/10 the price
Yeah they should just drop it

cause my korean 1440p only has one

I have a Samsung monitor from 2013 that only has DVI.
GPUs have enough space for them so why remove them

>same quality as hdmi

>no audio
>not over 60hz
>max resolution is 2560x1600

They also had enough space for DVI-I and VGA and they were removed eventually.

My 1080Ti doesn't have it. It's pretty much on its way out.

>hdmi
why you support a botnet video connector?

Qnix QX2710?
i have one, probably way better than whatever OP is using

my dvi monitor runs at 1440p at 96hz

face it, hdmi is botnet garbage. use either dp or dvi

>Qnix QX2710
yessir, picked it up off a dude i work with for 100 bucks when he got a 4k ultrawide, its pretty sweet i wont lie

Korean monitor club, wooo
I'm not , but I have a qnix too, but mine can only OC to 90 ;(

Also, OP is a faggot, HDMI is gay, and anyone who needs sound to go through a display cable to the tv or monitor is a poor fag.

I would rather have a DVI-like port. It's solid. HDMI is a lot more fragile.

>no reason to use DVI-D over HDMI
Dual link DVI is higher bandwidth than HDMI though.

Me too, user

There's actually no reason to use HDMI over DVI or DP (other than vendor pressure). If anything gets dropped, it should be hdmi.

>There's literally no reason to use DVI-D over HDMI or DP in 2017.
According that DVI and HDMI signals are the same, you mean there's no reason not to use only DP in 2017.

nice. havent tried for 120hz but happily running mine at 96hz

>hdmi is botnet garbage

Explain yourself

Cause then I need to get a HDMI to vga cable.

>buy GTX1070
>there are shitload of DVI types and videocard doesn't support your shitty one
>buy DisplayPort-to-VGA cable
>enjoy Windows not being able to understand you're using 1680x1050 and not 1024x768 or 1920x1080, so it falls back to 1080P sometimes
>no money to buy proper monitor

I wish more TVs had do on them, and I wish more cards had more dp. I like the MSI ones that are 3 dp, 1 HDMI and one dvi.

>DisplayPort-to-VGA
you're asking for this

recently a monitor died and I had to switch around between several machines of different age.

>oldest monitor that died was VGA
>newer one was on VGA but also has HDMI, switched to machine the dead monitor was on, connected with HDMI
>yet newer montior has HDMI but the machine also has DVI-D which will be connected via DVI-HDMI adaptor+HDMI cable
>newest is DP

Not just cable, but adapter.
It has to decode digital hdmi data to turn it into analogue vga.

I haven't seen those on a gpu for a while. Aren't they all displayport, and/or dmi now?

>>there are shitload of DVI types

There are only 3 types and people only ever use 2 of them.

Still was a dumb decision to make more than one

>Explain yourself
They put botnet in hdmi software.

No it wasn't.
In fact it was very smart and thinking about the future.

Just because tech retards can't figure out something as simple as the difference between analogue and digital doesn't make it bad.

>My 1080Ti doesn't have it.

Mine does.

It's a 3 slots wide card though.
Still, I'd prefer if it had extra vents instead.

>DVI-D wont carry audio
>HDMI to DVI-D does carry audio
what

Why would you ever need analogue DVI when VGA exists? This is retarded.

My old ass HP monitor only uses DVI

Eventually I'll be getting an ultrawide and switching to DP master race

To reduce the number of ports on the graphics card and motherboard, duh.

Maybe higher bandwidth than HDMI 1.1
We're already using HDMI 2.0 that can do 4k 60hz with data, ethernet, consumer electronic controls, and audio return channels

>To reduce the number of ports on the graphics card and motherboard, duh.
>Proceeds to make motherboards with VGA and no DVI in 2017

>muh ancient DVI monitor.

But a $7 HDMI to DVI cable or a $2 adapter - problem fixed.

Why the fuck did manufactures adopt HDMI when DP could do more and was royalty free?

Where?

My mobo has both VGA and DVI.

Stop buying motherboards for poorfags

Hollywood demanded widesprwad adoption of HDMI for the inbuilt DRM

>>Proceeds to make motherboards with VGA and no DVI in 2017

What motherboard still has VGA in the year of the lord two thousands and seventeen?

IIRC Intel has dropped VGA support from all their chipsets in 2016.

amd, obviously

And how does that make you feel?

Wouldn't you rather have two DVI-I ports so you could connect two monitors no matter if they are VGA or DVI?

Lots. You can still buy modern premium chipsets with PCI slots.

Fuck Hollywood, the pedos

>You can still buy modern premium chipsets with PCI slots
It isn't 2008 anymore

>They put botnet in hdmi software

HDMI is hardware ya fuckin pleb. Try harder.

Pro calendrical skills there my man.

>Asrock
but why?

Lol, I'm still using VGA for my 2nd monitor. I had to get an active DVI-D to VGA converter

Even low end cards like Vega are starting to drop it, so hopefully not too long.

low quality bait

VGA adapters, old projectors and monitors, still have a ways to go.

Then what are we supposed to use?

They make the best motherboards user.

>Then what are we supposed to use?
Anything else?

nah

Display Port

I fell for the AsRock meme myself.

Hardware wise it's alright AFAICT.

But the drivers that came with it were loaded with malware.
Had to download everything separately from OEM sites.

>HDMI
why do i need audio over my video cable?

>DP
yeah i really want to have to spend $100 on a "certified" cable just so i don't run the risk of frying my gpu with a connected pin 20.

your back panel is probably 80% freespace as it is now, who the fuck cares

One less cable?

Although while my Samsung syncmaster monitor has HDMI, I can't use it because it won't go into sleep mode with HDMI. I have to use DVI and a 3.5mm audio cable

>why do i need audio over my video cable?
So you have one less cable? It can even send audio the other way to a receiver

>yeah i really want to have to spend $100 on a "certified" cable just so i don't run the risk of frying my gpu with a connected pin 20.
>implying

>why do i need audio over my video cable?

If you ever use headphones, it's really nice being able to plug them into your monitor/soundbar.

Also external DAC's have far less interference.

>yeah i really want to have to spend $100 on a "certified" cable

I think you're confused with Apple Thunderbolt.
Normal DP cables are quite cheap and risk free.

Or you could, idk... Turn it off if you gonna be away.
Sleep mode is for sissies

sorry but that cable isn't on the official displayport certified list.
displayport.org/products-database/?products_category[]=cables-connectors&products_manufacturer=

>It can even send audio the other way to a receiver
wouldn't you then have to use a splitter making it not one less cable?

What should I use with my Dual Link DVI 2560x1440 monitor then?

Proper adapters are expensive, if you search around you will mostly find shitty single link ones.

Imagine being this autistic

Most of those cables are the ones that come for free with monitors

>no audio
Any card with DVI can send audio through it. Some even come with the adapter to connect HDMI devices.

Only time audio over a cable is really needed is for home theater receivers or incase you really want to use your monitor's/TV's audio out. IMO the DACs inside of displays suck.

?
do you use one? did you actually check whether pin 20 is connected for yourself before you plugged it in?

Yes. They all work. Stop being autistic.

Yeah but the power button is you press on the bezel in the corner and it has no markings. It's a PITA to use

they work, but if pin 20 is connected they are probably significantly shortening the lifespan of you gpu.

'tism

True, using that cable will make your computer explode don't do it buy a $100 Monster (TM) cable instead Goy.

Because cable price.

Some sales guy told you that huh?

$5 Monoprice DP cables are compliant

read first sentence on wikipedia
then read rest of article

Anything Sup Forums doesn't like is a a botnet

besides dvi, what makes your monitor ancient?

>IMO the DACs inside of displays suck.

The one in my Dell U2711 is clearly superior to anything I've ever had inside my computer.

Plus convenience:
I would need a 3.5mm extension cord to reach my desktop.
I would need an even linger extension cord to reach the TV in my bedroom.
The 3.5mm jack on my screen is right in front of me so why not use it? - becasue of some weird autism that says video and audio should never be combined?

Similarly, there's literally no reason to be using HDMI over DP in 2017.
Can we get rid of this shit already? DP is superior in every way.

Same. The thing works fine and I'm more than happy with 1080@60Hz.

I wish. But TVs and all associated home theatre stuff is all HDMI

Those could all be using DP just as well, too. This is apparently not common knowledge, but DP does carry audio as well.

I know, but Hollywood needs their DRM

I need DVI-I so that I can use my CRT monitor. I won't buy cards if they don't come with it.

That DRM is doing a very good job at preventing piracy, right?

True. It livestreams whatever you're watching straight to the NSA.

You know you can buy USB3 adapters for that, right?

One problem with DP is tha maximum cable length.

HDMI cables can be much longer: about 40m vs. about 5m.
This can be important with big home theater setups and centralized media servers.

I've seen DP cables as long as 25m

Not passive ones.

And there sure as hell aren't passive HDMI cables that are 40m long
