PC Building General

>Quick Tips

1. Spend all of your money on one large SSD instead of a small SSD + large HDD. This single part will be the most noticeable performance increase over any other part.

2. If you're not doing expedited shipping-- make sure there aren't any **notices that state a month or longer shipping time. In that case, pick a different part or pay $5 more for faster shipping.

3. Get a gold rated PSU if you plan on overclocking any components.

4. 8GB of RAM is sufficient for over 98% of current existing PC titles. The Witcher 3 is a notable example of a game that would run slightly better on a 16GB setup. (4-11 FPS)

>CPU/GPU Pair Suggestions as of 10/24/17

1. Intel Pentium G4560 - $78.89 - GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1060 6GB
2. Ryzen 3 1200 - $109.88 - GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1060 6GB
3. Ryzen 5 1500X - $169.38 - GTX 1070
4. Ryzen 5 1600 - $193.88 - GTX 1080
5. Ryzen 7 1700 - $289.99 - GTX 1080 Ti

You can't even get it right, get outta my thread.

You didn't get get the copypasta right, thread sucks.

>copypasta

if you're taking advice from the same copypasta thread, you're going to build an obsolete computer.

Terrible thread.

Get a cheaper PSU.

What changes should I make? Medium gaming, trying not to spend too much.

I'd keep the 1060 6B you have selected there and go with a Ryzen 3 1200.

The coffeelake CPUs still don't have non z370 motherboards. So you're essentially paying for an overclockable motherboard with a non-overclocking CPU.

I'll download more ram during cyber monday or something - when the prices aren't insane

I'd drop to the Ryzen 3 1200.

Drop the HDD and spend more on a single larger SSD.

That's retarded.

samefag go shitpost in the old thread.

You're just a retard, OP.

Always consider an SSD if you can afford one and buy an HDD later.

>CPUs
A8-9600 - Absolute bare minimum gaymen without a dedicated GPU.
G4560 - Absolute bare minimum gaymen w/ a dedicated GPU.
R5 1400 - Best with OCing & high-speed RAM.
i5-8400 - Best value for gaymen
R5 1600 - Best value for mixed uses
R7, used Xeon, Threadripper, or 8700k - Heavy multi-tasking & mixed uses

>GPUs
* Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up, using an old GPU or waiting to build may be a good idea right now.
1060 3GB - 1080p 60fps at medium/high settings, anything below this just buy an Optiplex and put this GPU or better in.
1060 6GB or RX 580 - 1080p 60fps at ultra settings, former supports G-Sync, latter supports Freesync
1070 - 1080p 144fps / 1440p 60fps at ultra settings
1080 TI - 1440p 144fps / 4k 60fps at ultra settings

>RAM
Check your Mobo's QVL if your buying Ryzen
Ryzen CPUs benefit a lot from high speed RAM, 3200(+)MHz is ideal

This is old news, the whole purpose of a new thread was updated information.

i wouldn't spend any money on the A8-9600. Ryzen 5 1400 is a good cpu, I'd rather pick up a 1500X instead. Recommending anyone buy a non overclockable coffeelake CPU is a shill. Only z370 boards are available at the moment.

What's the absolute cheapest GPU I could get that would still run games at at least 30 FPS at 720p?

Should I get that GPU and wait for a Volta announcement or just get a 1080/1080ti now? I'd rather not deal with buying an actual decent card then trying to resell.

GTX 1050 Ti, no cheaper of a card would be worth your time.

1080 Ti would rock your world. Volta cards are going to be better, yes, but also considerably more expensive than last gen.

What's a good fan curve for a 1070

>no cheaper card would be worth your time
Not even if I would be upgrading from a 660m?

I guess I should just get a 1080/1080ti if Volta's going to be more expensive. I assumed they'd be about the same price point for much more performance. But then again, I don't think I can put a price on getting my GPU right now. Really hyped for my first build.

GTX 960 is almost identical in performance to GTX 1050 Ti, so if he can get the former for a significantly lower price then it'd be a better deal.

Mobo damnit

**If we're talking new components.

If you can find a used one that beats the 1050 Ti, go for it!

jesus christ, is this how low /pcbg/ goes?
>recommending a large ssd over hdd/ssd combo
I use an optane accelerator with my 1 tb hdd and it just werks
>buying any ryzen x chips
>ever
literally a waste of money, spending a few more bucks for a 1600 instead of 1500x
>no high ram meme
this is the only feature of /pcbg/ that will not be missed

Please exit the thread, do not make any attemtps to return or especially post.

Get fucked.

Any changes I should make to make it slightly more expensive and slightly better?

>Spend all of your money on one large SSD instead of a small SSD + large HDD

Hello friends, has anyone built a mini ITX or small form PC? What are the issues in doing so? I think it would be possible to have a $1000 machine condensed into 8x8x11 inch case but I need help. It'd be transported a lot and require optimal cooling so the case is the most important thing I guess.

>1. Spend all of your money on one large SSD instead of a small SSD + large HDD. This single part will be the most noticeable performance increase over any other part.

what the fuck it's like double-triple the price
???

>CPU finally shits the bed because of a weird issue involving voltage settings in the motherboard that I never resolved
>end up replacing it with an i7-7700K and an Asus motherboard with accompanying RAM
>refuses to start with the old PSU for some fucking reason
>have to use a brand new spare PSU I was planning on selling
>on top of that, the h80i I was using for cooling causes the thing to not boot
>the 7700k is now being cooled by a stock CPU fan for a 4790k while I try to wrap my mind around the idea of all the shit that may be broken
I'm struggling to figure out how a CPU and motherboard replacement has turned into me replacing everything but the case, storage devices, and GPU.

epic shillin

Thoughts? Its quite pricey but im looking for one day delivery on all items
