Hi Sup Forums, I made a thread a couple days ago about ricing gnome to look like the soon to be dead Unity. I know a lot of people are missing Unity on 17.10, so I've come up with a guide on how to get pic related on a standard gnome installation (next post)

well desu it looks a lot better than in the thread a few days ago
great work there user

also why tf everytime i write t b h it turns into desu ffs

Your newfag is showing

unity is utter shiet

your mother is utter shiet!

try writing
senpai

now this is bs, why would they do this even in code block...

>First thing one needs to do is install Unity7-master shell theme for GNOME. If you haven't already, install the "user themes" extension for GNOME. unity-master theme can be found at omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/06/b00merang-theme-make-gnome-shell-look-like-unity
Just extract the theme into /home/youurusername/.local/share/themes. you can set the theme with gnome tweak tool.

>Next, install dash to dock extension and set the dash to panel mode on the left of the screen, with icon size at 48. There is an option to show the "show applications" button at the top; enable it.

>Next, install some more extensions. "frippery move clock" moves GNOME's clock to the right. "Hide activities button" is self explanatory. You also need gnome-shutdown-button to enable a unity-like shutdown icon and arc-menu to get the "Ubuntu Desktop" at the top right. In order to do this, go to arc-menu's settings on tweak tool and change to text rather than icon, and then click custom text.

>Finally, go into tweak tool's windows menu and click left on window configuration, and that should be about it.

If you run into any problems or I forgot anything, please don't hesitate to tell me ITT

that would be pretty fucking stupid
imo
desu

icons look too small inside the dock. also what about global menu and hud? top panel should have a shadow as well. looks good anyway

kys gaylord

Nice job, but Xubuntu is still better and prettier

i can't do anything about the icons, it's the theme that does this. if someone could patch the theme, or make another one entirely, this could easily be fixed

Global menu/HUD are exclusive to Unity, I can't do anything about that. Pressing the ubuntu dock icon at the top takes you into the gnome applications menu.

In terms of shadows, you'd probably have to fuck around in compiz, which is a fuckery in and of itself

nobody cares about your shilling. you people make xubuntu crappier, it's fine without people spamming it in unrelated threads.

Why not use Ubuntu Mate?

You've basically wasted your time, faggot.

misread your post, sorry for the autism-burst.

because ubuntu mate's unity theme looks absolutely nothing like unity. It functions like it with that hud thing, but i'm trying to work on aesthetics.

I would like if they forked it over to other DE's, though, it's a good replacement from what I've heard.

Alright, good riddance.

Doesn't behave like unity

why would anyone want that piece of shit unity back?

Generally does, actually. Minus the lack of HUD, it's basically the same. The GNOME application menu is very comparable to the unity dash in terms of functionality, and dash to dock means you never need to go into the global menu with the zoomed-out applications.

So why dont you just use the yunit fork? You act like all unity software has been deleted forever.

the app drawer doesn't look and behave like in unity

this is for unity 7. yunit is great if you like unity 8 though. hell, only reason i haven't installed yunit on this machine is because it doesn't play nice with GNOME.

>unity 7
What about shitware artemis

artemis' site hasn't been updated for ages and there's nothing on the download pages

bump

anyone tried it yet?

Ubuntu is dying

lolwut
