So firefox quantum is out, what's your thoughts on it? Is it time to abandon?

I mean it's definitely faster. It's about as fast as Chrome now.

>t. fat disgusting greasy hairy ugly feminist

>on the ... benchmark
trashed

I'm still on 45.9 ESR. I tried 52 ESR and Mozilla fucked up the font rendering. Is there any reason to upgrade?

It's time to switch to Firefox if you're not already using it.

>the same benchmark that chromeshills used to cite all the time is now irrelevant

Can I use my "legacy" extensions? Current deal breaker, and no there are no alternatives.

We never agreed it was relevant in real world use.

I don't really know what benchmarks "chromeshills" use, but I don't trust benchmarks. I'll withhold judgement until the software is officially released and on my computer.

It's a fairly accurate portrayal of real world performance on "webapps", anything with a shitload of javascript and lots of moving and changing elements.

shit umatrix works now so I upgraded yesterday.

Also have palemoon set-up just in-case

Am I supposed to believe you are still on XP or am I missing something?

(((Vivaldi)))

yes

I was afraid that Firefox would turn into a bad clone of Chrome, but I was wrong. Firefox turned into a good clone of Chrome! I mean, it's kinda crappy without its extensions, but it does have noticeably better real-world browsing performance. If you don't need any of Firefox's "legacy" extensions, it's worth using.

why can't firefox quantum just be regular firefox?

different code base that no longer supports old XUL extensions.

Does Greasemonkey work?

Having issues logging into sites, think it's an issue left over from using SDing Cookies

There's Violentmonkey that works just as well.

it will be
>greasespot.net/2017/09/greasemonkey-4-announcement.html

>projecting this hard

Actually, no. The codebase is exactly the same (for now), they even added Servo before removing the XUL/XPCOM extension APIs. But they will be changing the underlying codebase a lot, which will break most of the extensions anyways at some point.

firefox 57 is faster on my toaster

Upgrade or let it die and move on

> firefox quantum is out
no

Anybody know how to get the new tab + NEXT to the tabs?
Wasn't rocket science pre-Quantum but now it's terrified of the tabs.

With this new browser I can lolipost twist as much highly recommended

Just drag it there.

If only I had already tried that.

What do you get?

...

It does that in customize mode but when I save it it jumps to the nearest tab.

doesn't work on my machine (tm)

Looks like adding the screenshot button is the problem.

The only other button there is fullscreen

Yeah I meant fullscreen. I tried adding it and then I get the same behaviour.

Removing it and/or restarting Firefox seems to have fixed it.

Hop to, Mozilla.

Wait what? I thought it comes out in November

Perma Beta

Firefox improved significantly in terms of speed.
Probably less of a botnet than Chrome now without any downsides. However Firefox is doing questionable shit with Cliqz and funding antifa.
Deprecated old addons suck, but it is worth it for the speed and security. Also webextenstions still has more functionality than Chrome addons, see gorhill's statement.

I used to use Chromium for shit tied to my name, like banking and a few social media accounts, I'm replacing it with Quantum
Otherwise I'm keeping Icecat as my main browser, and ESR 52 for legacy websites that require shit like Java

>everyone I disagree with is a strawman!

>firefox quantum
>not using nightly
why

Because nightly comes with spyware.

Speed is the least important attribute of a browser. You should be blocking most or all javascript anyway, and once you do that, all browsers are more than fast enough. "but muh bleeding edge" is a stupid Arch meme for people who like to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading. There's no reason to run mainline over ESR. Let alone nightly or any of that garbage.

What part of "Safe for work" board you don't understand.

>implying normal firefox has no spyware
kek

The "browsing Sup Forums at work" part

File and line number of the botnet?

t. fat neckbeard jobless Sup Forums user

There's even an option to enable or disable sending data to mozilla on both firefox and nightly. If there is a hidden botnet then both of them would have it.

what if he works in the porn industry

What's a good alternative for downthemall?
I particularly want the ability to arbitrarily download a bunch of URLs from the page at once.

Get waterfox.

Chrome is a botnet
Edge is a botnet
Firefox is a botnet
Is there nowhere safe? Is Tor a bot net?

xp is honestly fine. It still runs, whats the problem? No problems with modern programs, etc. Only a few hundred mb when you download from TPB. Such a cool little os, shame it gets so much hate.

Sup Forums is the real botnet.

You've been reverse memed. Use whatever browser you want.

Should I switch from safari to zis?

Firefox, since the move to quantum, has finally become my primary browser.

I was using chromium for 3/4 years, until now. I can finally return home.

I'd love to say the same, but both nightly and dev builds have been crashing for me and randomly shoot up to 4GB memory usage with only 3 tabs open. Might have to wait til it reaches release to give it a proper shot.

>I have 10 addons installed
>all but 2 have LEGACY written next to them
>most developers of LEGACY addons saying fuck all it's over and they can't/won't bring them to Firefox 57
>all so Firefox, which loses marketshare by the day, can be more like Chrome
Holy fuck, how could they get this so wrong? Extensions are the only thing keeping their userbase from jumping ship to another browser.

I'm gonna try Waterfox. Who's with me Sup Forums's?

All of Sup Forums is nsfw by default. Your boss seeing people calling each other faggot and nigger casually on a blue board is gonna get you fired just as much as you looking at tiddy on a yellow board.

Just because they say legacy doesn't mean they don't work.
All but one of my addons work fine.

I've been using Waterfox for a few months after my Firefox started acting up and stopped displaying webms for some reason.
It's honestly exactly the same.

Speedometer tests DOM and rendering performance, not just Javascript.

>yellow board

when does this get merged with regular firefox?

Try Flashgot. It actually captured a youtube audio stream where other addons and online services could not.

I miss the 100mb xp iso. it was glorious to use for virtual machines.
But even back then, nobody trusted it because security was so bad.

Nice try, but I won't move from my superior XUL-compatible 52 ESR any time soon.

Anyone else's nightly build just start memory leaking out of nowhere today? Haven't updated and my only tabs are Sup Forums and Twitter. Gets to the point where it slowly becomes non-functional and I have to force shutdown the process.

Was working fine before then.

*crashes when dragging an image from File Explorer to the Sup Forums image submit button*

I'm using Nightly with disabled auto updates, is there any major difference between Quantum and Nightly?

Is it half as good as IE now?

Switch from Safari to anything

Flashgot is bloated trash

>trash
If it works, it works. And it works for me.

I wanted to try all their new cool stuff, but apparently my videocard doesn't support it and when I force it on, it draws shit. Still use FF as my spare browser. My main is Vivaldi (usually I hold two windows: one for things I need to save in my history and one for things that is completely trash and I don't need it), then I have regular FF and FF nightly. I use FF for twitch as Vivaldi doesn't work well with 60 fps /1080p streams for me (the streams stutter). On the other hand FF has huge delays for no reason when you are opening pages. I mean it could wait for several seconds before it does a request to a web-server.

what's the difference between quantum and the latest version?

No.

Why do I need to switch from Safari? Firefox is now shit, and chrom* is shit.

is the android version any good now?
would like to run it on an unrooted samshit for the adblock.

i tried to use is yesterday. it eats 500mb of ram more than my chromium for no reason. fireshit is still shit since after 2012

Any alternatives for Private Tabs (that is not opening a private window)?

It seems that it's being worked on, but it cannot progress further because Mozilla didn't implement individual behavior for container tabs yet
github.com/Infocatcher/Private_Tab_WE

Maybe a workaround would be using external scripts to erase cookies/cache/history from the page of the "current" tab while browsing or when the tab is closed

However shit firefox and chrome are, safari is worse.

Firefox 56.0b12 (dev edition) user here. I tried updating and it borks your extensions but you get all the benefits up to this point.
Don't see a reason to use ESR right now over this; no new security fixes.
Classic theme restorer makes it look the same anyways.
ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/2017/09/2017-09-14-02-48-31-mozilla-beta-l10n/
Don't know why the en-us installer is gone, but the en-gb installer is basically the same thing. I'll probably only be able to put this off for 1 more month (when they announce new security fixes). Browser vulnerabilities are probably the best vector for getting fucked nowadays.

Oh and if you do decide to use this, make sure to go into about:config and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false.

Why should I use Firefox and not Pale Moon?

This

Bulk media downloader

Bad but better

Waterfox my friend.

Firefox is so slow. I switched to FF two weeks ago because Chrome refuses to work at 144hz (it's locked to 60hz).
With Chrome I had a much faster (smoother) experience overall, FF is clunkier, loads slower, all it has going for it is the smoother scrolling.
Why is FF so slow and shitty?
I get 88 runs on Chrome and 33 on FF.

No.

Hop to, Mozilla fuck, how could wait for things that Firefox is so wrong? Extensions, but its extenstions still on "webapps", anything a private_Tab_WE

Oh and it works. And it slowly build just in real world performance the 100mb xp iso. it eats 500mb of real world browsing performance. If you do the nearest tab.

is this the new /Firefox General/ ?
Anyone else only getting auto-completion for big sites like Facebook and Instagram, on Nightly ?

>mfw Edge is not bad

>xp is honestly fine
Nigga your OS has more holes than a swiss cheese.

When is it actually released?
What FF version?

>doesn't work with vimperator
intothetrash.xpm

Whatever happened to that guy that was making optimized versions of firefox?

Forgot what it was called

water fox just shit on me for the new update fucking lags and freezes hard. I might just try fire fox for the sake of memes and other shit along with just trying it.
