my windows 10 PC is fucked, crashes after the windows loading screen with the rotating dots, reinstalled w10 and it worked for a while then began again, have tried two amd gpus, r7 360 and RX 550, both working, both crash, 12gb ram, two the same one different, amd athlom x4 860k CPU, anyone have any ideas? have had this problem for weeks, have tracked it down to probably amd drivers, (crashes on install of them and the problem begins) but not sure

don't buy a non-overclockable coffeelake cpu. you're wasting money on a z370 board that won't be fully utilized.
spend all of your storage money on one large SSD.

have you dusted the pc lately? also try reapplying thermal paste and maybe lowering settings in bios
Gavin Perez
>don't buy a non-overclockable coffeelake cpu But the i3 8100 and i5 8400 are both great CPUs
>you're wasting money on a z370 board that won't be fully utilized Not really, since you have the potential to upgrade to an unlocked CPU, you can use fast RAM, and the boost profile can make the all core turbo constant
>spend all of your storage money on one large SSD. You might be able to get at most another 250GB with that strategy. For some people it might work, but I have around 10TB of hard disk space, 8GB used.

Hi all, I made this build >au.pcpartpicker.com/list/FZgWHN over the last couple weeks and I'm pretty happy with how it looks. However I'm still not decided on it due to present cost and also that in maintaining 144hz into the future. Because of that I decided to throw together an AMD build to see what I could come up with for a bit less but that would still be something new and exciting to me. I'd be using the regedit for 64 BIOS/changes. >au.pcpartpicker.com/list/GH9DtJ What do you think??
Ryder Martinez
temps are good, it can handle an attempt to play games without freezing, just not a driver install

Reminder that for $90 you can get a quad core apu that is better in everyday use and that has better integrated graphics. Reminder that for $120 you can buy a whole used computer with i5 2400 cpu.
>$90 you can get a quad core apu that is better in everyday False. It's not quad core, retard. It's 2 module, 4 thread. Learn about CMT. Hotter, WAY worse single core performance.
>better in everyday use Wow, nice facts you have here.
Alexander Brown
Are there any other options over the VG248QE at a similar price range for 1080p/144hz gaming? I'm also on the fence about whether or not I should stick with getting a 1080 or drop down to a 1070 since I won't be doing 1440p for a while.
Aussie above, I'm only seeing that screen on import from US for ~$450 at first gance

If I was building something with 1 1080ti for now and looking to possibly SLI a 2nd one down the road, is a Mid Tower generally roomy enough for good airflow?

The Bristol Ridge architecture is the last of the Bulldozer type clustered multithreading modules that have 2 INT cores per 1 FP core, which can create a bottleneck depending on workload. Gaming in particular suffers a lot.
The Raven Ridge APUs coming out next year will be Zen cores, aka true 4 core APUs.
Hunter Green
Generally less room = better airflow with appropriate setup but obviously you need to balance that with your two fat hogs on spit
Blake Parker
thanks, will wait for APU.

>Wait for sale on the case I want most >Price just gets higher You guys think the Meshify would drop much more? Thinking of just picking up my second choice for really cheap (Corsair 460x RGB)
Any changes to recommend? Built my current PC in 2012 and figured it would be best to start from scratch though may reuse some of my current HD/SSDs and the Optical Drive. Mainly for gaming and occasional video rendering, trying to keep it around $2500. Target is 4k gaming at 60fps and probably VR at some point.
Also how much of a pain in the ass is water cooling? Is it worth it? I've stuck to purely fans in past because I can't get over the feeling liquid + pc + eventual tiny leak = ruined rig.
Funny that the A10 is a 95W part and the G4600 is a 50W part. That should give you some idea of the quality

>(((supply & demand)))
>“At the same time, changes have occurred in the relationship among the top three suppliers – Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung,” Wu added. “Based on the oligopolistic market situation, the trio have opted for co-existence as the best way to maximize their own profitability. They therefore are turning away from aggressively competing for market share through price reduction and capacity expansion.” >“In a sense, there a strategic aspect behind the latest wave of DRAM price increase,” said Wu. “In the short term, rising prices lift up margins for suppliers. In the long run, the barrier to keep Chinese competition out of the DRAM market is reinforced.”
its solid, although you should know that the ryzen build will last years, and will easily handle 144hz. i improved your build significantly for essentially the same price: au.pcpartpicker.com/list/TvkQpb slightly better ryzen ram. downgraded the 500gb ssd because its overkill for 90% of users. upgraded gpu. upgraded psu to a better, fully modular unit. upgraded monitor to one of the best 144hz on the market. all for only $40 more.
Easton Brown
how is a 500gb ssd overkill? I've never thought "man I wish I had less SSD space so I'd be forced to put this on my HDD instead"
Samuel Murphy
took me 2 months to make my build, i literally watch every benchmarks of different builds, read articles and forum posts

250gb is enough for your boot and games, which is what most people buy ssds for. anything more is overkill for most users, but if you're willing to pay the premium, go for it.

not every game benefits noticeably from SSD. Looks for review.
Building a PC with a GTX1070 and I'm almost done. Got a choice between 2 monitors of the same price. Can't decide between them.
24'' 1920x1080@144Hz with Gsync
27'' 2560x1440@60Hz with IPS
I don't play many online shooters if that helps.

Definitely the larger IPS monitor
Charles Morales
pcpartpicker.com/list/w4WQpb I have this build, but I have a few questions: >Can I go with the stock cpu cooler? >Is that power supply overkill?
But most importantly, it's still a bit over what I would like to spend. Where can I spend less without losing too much? (excluded the monitor, it's there just for reference)

Check the ram sticks required voltages and set it to the highest of the 3. Set ram frequency and timings to somethibg all sticks support.(lower for frequency, higher for timings)
I had a similar issue. System randomly rebooted. 1 ram stick was rated at 1.45 v and the other at 1.55 v. Settibg the voltage to 1.55 in the bios fixed my problem.
Colton Sanchez
that build is not good. the 1050ti is way too weak for the 8400. the amount of bottleneck would be insane. a ryzen build will be cheaper, and much more versatile. with that being said, what are you planning on using your pc for and what's your ideal budget?
Ryder Jones
you can have all of the most popular games with 250gb. league, dota, csgo, pubg, fortnite, etc. you're in the minority.
Ethan Morales
>Settibg the voltage to 1.55 in the bios fixed my problem. that's a good way to fuck your shit up mate. 1.55 is insane.
Gabriel Sanders
why ?
Isaac Murphy
if you just do gaming, your gpu is going to bottleneck so hard your CPU is way overkill the 16 gigs is probably also overkill
>>Can I go with the stock cpu cooler? As far as I know the 8400 doesn't OC and at full load with stock cooler it hits ~75 degrees, which is fine Supposedly it's loud as shit tho >>Is that power supply overkill? the PSU is horribly overkill did you just pick the cheapest case available?
pcpartpicker.com/list/CngMjc If you don't stream or do video editing this'll probably get equivalent performance for ~110$ less. I didn't check RAM Compatibility tho so you'll have to look into that yourself, because it's aids
Depends, now with the upcoming black friday sales spending on SSD is worth more than hard drives
Jack Cruz
1070 should be able to do both 144hz 1080 and 60hz 1440 so it comes down to if you prefer resolution or fps and how far away you sit from pc
Brody Nelson
I'm not sure about the exact numbers. I have 2 generic 4GB sticks of DDR3 ram from different manufacturers. The point is 1 was rated for a higher voltage but the mobo set the voltage to the lower one. Setting it to the voltage of the higher rated one fixed the problem.
Adrian Campbell
preferred budget is 700€/830$ I already have the monitor, so right now I sit at 900$
Would use pc for a wide range of tasks. From light gaming (overwatch, teamfortress 2, playing at lower resolution is not a problem) to programming (but in visual studio), photo editing, occasionally using a vm to either test some distro or emulate some android device to debug apps. I don't see video editing or heavy gaming in the future.
Eventually I might buy a second monitor.
Fact is I'm so out of touch with building a pc after 10 years of laptops that I have no idea if this build is already overkill for my needs.
If you say the 1050ti is too weak, I could get a cheaper cpu as well, maybe it would still be enough for me
>did you just pick the cheapest case available? yes I don't really know what to look for in a case beside looks, which I don't care for, and compatibility.
Listening to coworkers advice on components was probably my worst error, since they just throw money and get the best they can while I'm way more parsimonious. when asked if for 250W a 450ps would be enough, the answer was "get a 750 to be sure"
i wanted small form factor PC main purpose learning 3d graphics design but it would also replace my old one with 9600GT (passive) and Q9650
i changed 1200 to 1400 and power source to gold standard
troughs ?

Should I buy an 250gb 850 evo or 960 evo?

>Unable to verify the Fractal Design - Core 500 Mini ITX Desktop Case has sufficient mounting depth to support the Fractal Design - Celsius S24 87.6 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler 240mm radiator. 1050 is a weak card 32 gigs is almost definitely overkill why two different drives you probably won't need a cooler
>I don't really know what to look for in a case beside looks, which I don't care for, and compatibility. Looks, which actually DO matter, because you'll most likely look at it for a decade or more Compatibility, fairly simple to check I/O, front USB 3.0 are real nice quite often and some even have USB C ports Airflow, through case design (how well air can move through it), included fans and possible fan mounts. Any mid/full size case with only one case fan feels like a bad idea to me
Nathaniel Evans
That's a stupid fucking build. Why are you buying a cooler that's almost as expensive as your cpu? also why the fuck would you buy an sfx psu when the case you chose can fit an atx psu?
>1050 is a weak card but isn't working with 3d models more CPU dependent ? >32 gigs is almost definitely overkill of course it is >why two different drives because i wanted to fill the space >you probably won't need a cooler yes at first i put 1800x there and forgot to remove it :P >psu i grabbed first modular psu i saw to fill bulid
Carter Watson
May be a bad hard drive or sata cables, possibly PSU. Ram is also a possibility, and pretty much, anything else. Try investigating your hard drive and swapping the sata and sata power cables (including from the psu).
Owen Ramirez
the psu I put in is modular too you fucking retard
Jonathan Hall
850 evo
Jayden Thompson
>but isn't working with 3d models more CPU dependent ? It depends on the program, though pre rendered max/maya mainly uses CPU in default scenarios, you still don't want to skimp on the GPU. There's a reason rendering stations use Nvidia Quadros
>because i wanted to fill the space that's literally the dumbest shit I've ever heard
Reminder to not fall for the meme of gpu bottleneck. Never downgrade CPU for the sake of upgrading GPU. Any GPU you pick will be irrelevant in 2 years and it's not only much easier to upgrade GPU than switch the entire platform, but also mandatory. 1050ti is shit anyway though, it's simply overpriced.
Julian Miller
for your needs, a 1600 is overkill, as is 16gb of ram. this build makes a lot of sense: pcpartpicker.com/list/ys2swV
