yes

no

maybe

a demo lol

fuck you nigger

No install a usable Gentoo based OS like Sabayon Linux.

Gentoo is a usable Gentoo based OS in itself

good post

horrible posts

install gentoo

yes. I'm downloading the ISO as we speak. wish me luck Sup Forumsents. heil Stallman

no

Yes.

Arch > Gentoo

>Why's Arch better?
AUR

Debian > Arch

>Why's Debian better?
Doing a system upgrade doesn't crash your os

Portage > AUR
Prove me wrong.

> install one package from aur
< 1 minute
> install one package from portage
60 minutes

the answer seems pretty clear to me

yes

>arch
>system upgrade

pick 1

were you running gentoo on a potato? that's stupid.

Gentoo is bloated af
a minimal install is 11GB

the minimal install is 270 MiB faggot

always

not true, i have a bricked debian netbook sitting right next to me, stuck in a boot loop after apt-get upgrade

>install one package from aur
< 1 minute, anything linked against a library with the same name as one in that package is now bricked and any binaries linked against different libraries on the package creator's system might be too because binary incompatibility, config files may or may not be set back to default
>install one package from portage
5 minutes tops, before installing the entire system is checked for possible issues that could arise in combination with that package, package is compiled and linked to your own local libraries, anything linked against replaced libraries is recompiled to prevent breakage, additionally, config files are protected and may be updated by the administrator accordingly with a simple utility

the answer seems pretty clear to me

in a virtual machine if you have no life

>5 minutes
really? I run gentoo on my surface pro 3 and honestly the longest I've had to wait was like one minute for something.

That's the installation media
after stage 3 and emerging
and all that other bullshit
you're looking at a fat 11gb
no DE

No, its incredibly complex to install compared to other distros because it is customizable.
Ain't nobody got time for that.

it's not very complex
it just takes so much time

do it as a challenge

>compiling from aur is faster than compiling from ebuilds
yeah, no

what is complex about it? set decent use flags, actually know how to compile a kernel (or cheat your way out using genkernel), and the remaining is just as "complex" as any other distro.

No, it's a waste of time. What difference is it *really* going to make

Compile chromium or Firefox OS LibreOffice or qtwebengine or clang

What's your desktop environment?

I don't know

2011 called, they want their stale ass meme back. Arch just werks, and Debian has dinosaur packages.

Calculate linux

Is Calculate actually good? I worry because it's a little obscure.
I've thought of installing Gentoo through SystemRescueCD or the live DVD thinking it might be easier but I never tried because my laptop is 2slow.

can you repeat the question?

Just install the kde first while you download all the isos to play with later when you get the hang of it. It recognized all my hardware on the first go.

cancer

aur is literally for dumb babies that don't understand compilation

it literally says in the fetch you fucking trog

No, its tools are completely broken. Use plain gentoo since it actually works. Also personally never got srcd to ever run so good luck with that, I do gentoo install from an ubuntu liveusb.

>Make a bootable USB with Gentoo iso
>Boot the PC with the USB
>When the GUI comes up pick the option saying "Try Gentoo Without Installing"

With this method you can decide it yourself and if you like it then just pick the desktop icon called "Install Gentoo," then just follow the steps.

Install CloverOS

Installed Gentoo this month, best decision of my life.

Can you repeat the question?

>Sabayon
Calculate is the better Gentoo ez mode.

Installed gentoo last month. Now I have a 6 digit job, responsibilities, a wife, kids, a golden retriever and the a whole list of other shit to take care of.

>would not recommend

Gentoo is amazing. I can have multiple conflicting versions of packages, or 64 and 32 bit libraries at once. And it's all fine because the programs that depend on specific architectures or specific versions of programs are compiled from source, so portage just links them with the version it knows it depends on.

See devmanual.gentoo.org/general-concepts/slotting/ and gentoo.org/support/news-items/2015-03-28-true-multilib.html

If you've ever had to deal with dependency issues with packages you'll know why this is awesome.

Also being able to manually include (or exclude) certain features from any package or your kernel is extremely useful. For example, I was able to simply remove the SSL heartbeat extension and recompile my packages when the heartbleed vuln came out.

Did I even mention Portage?
>Portage works without any external repo.
>Portage supports using llvm icc etc to build with.
>Portage supports distcc.
>Portage supports slotting of dependencies.(multiple versions of python, ruby, gtk etc)
>Portage supports multiple kernels BSD Fedora debian etc.
>Portage can thread package installs and downloads

Meanwhile, with Arch
>overzealous autistic fan boys
>"you'll learn how Linux REALLY works!" When it's literally just configuring a package manager and letting scripts do the rest
>offers nothing that minimal net installs already offered for other distros don't.
>muh bleeding edge packages!! when you can just install directly from the upstream source in any distro.
>only reason to use it is the aur, which is full of broken and unmaintained packages and isn't monitored at all, most "packages" are just a bash script to download the package and it's install script from GitHub.
>aur is far worse than Open Build Service, which actually lets you package binaries and programs for multiple distros.

there's nothing it offers that makes it worth using over any other distros and it has the worst fucking user base

no. bad meme. waste of time. install debian

Fuck off fatty

lol, your life sucks

reminder that stallman is against gentoo

If trips no.

absolutely

Kill yourself and your half-assed minimalism

nice dubs

If you have to ask...

Wow, it's garbage

By far the best linux os I have used. Great package manager, super stable, everything just works. Only downside is initial install takes more time than other options but you will make it back with ease of maintenance. The only people who think gentoo is a meme os are newfags and tech illiterates that can't understand how reading documentation might be beneficial.

Same experience. It's still sad that there's no binary-based distro that can even compare because compiling can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

do it fag

No. Install Source Mage GNU/Linux. SMGL is life.

It's like gentoo except shit.

Honestly god tier rice, well done

OpenBSD > FreeBSD > Gentoo > Arch

Only in the mind of a weedsmoking inbred.

Pedophile!
