first for x230t is comfy

nth for raven ridge thinkpads

x220 clearly is comfiest

X220 or t420

You plebs don't know anything about comfyness.

t. x61t user

2570p is better than x220/x230

two numbers and two letters means no more fucking around

i want to replace the disk drive in my t420 with a hard drive caddy. How do operating systems recognize this drive? does it work like having two drives in a desktop or does it see it as external storage?

I made this wallpaper the other day, hope you enjoy it /tpg/. I believe this could be adapter for a bios background too.

x220 user and I envy you. Too bad older thinkpads are either beyond broken or too expensive where I live.

a mix of both

It works like having two drives in a desktop but it can also be ejected like external storage.

I just got lucky, managed to get my X61t with a 64GB SSD in pristine condition aside from a small scratch on the lid for 30000 CLP (about $47 USD). It even has the Wacom/Centrino Duo/Designed for WinXP stickers.

How bad is the 1366x768 display compared to the 1600x900 display? The lid and LCD on my T420 both got smashed, so I ordered a full screen panel to replace it, but it is unfortunately the lower resolution. Not quite willing to pay ~$50 for the Alienware screen if it will only offer minor improvement.

Raven Ridge ThinkPad when?

Just a matter of getting used to it i guess.

I'm fine with 1024x768 on my x61t and FHD on my 14" thinkpad but i couldn't go below 1600x900 on a 14" laptop, it feels too claustrophobic.

I need ram for my x220 tablet. I have never purchased ram before, what should I get.

>I have never purchased ram before
>posted by a fa/g/g/ot
how is this even possible

anyway get sodimm ddr3l memory

RAM

the future of Sup Forums

the true business man executive, bravo

how do you fix ghost touches on a fresh install of windows 7 on a X220T?

worked fine on linux mint live usb but in win7 it clicks all over the place :-DDD

> Not the far superior X61
> Falling for the touchscreen meme
> Calling it comfyness

KYS.

>:-DDD
Fuck you

>not the FAR superior X60
kys yourself

is there any way or reason to enable the finger print reader on the X220 when using ubuntu

>Falling for the touchscreen meme
Which touchscreen? touchscreens are for faggots.

>way
Yes
>reason
No

> X61T means for Tablet
> Tablet Chinkpads had touchscreen

thought so
how do you enable the memerprint reader

Just got a T400, currently loading my meme distro of choice onto it. It's a pretty sturdy little bastard.

What font did you use?

How is it a touchscreen if touching the screen does nothing?

If you have an X61T and the screen didn't werks, you have been scammed.

Wrong. There are also superior versions without touch.

Like what?
Give me an example or post yours.

I have an X61t without touch screen. Every tablet up to X200 (or X201, I'm not entirely sure) also had a non-touch option.

>If you have an X61T and the screen didn't werks, you have been scammed.
Actually having a touch screen would be the scam, what the fuck is the point of having a pen if you can't use it while resting your hand on the screen.

This. Palm rejection wasn't a thing back then.

Those fucking chinks better make a raven ridge board for the t420/30

Like the one i'm shitposting right now.

X61t with a touch screen sounds fucking awful, it'd be a hindrance more than a feature.

> X61T
> Withouth touchcreen
> Not an X61

A regular X61 doesn't have pen input

loving my t450s, super solid. Got it with a 200gb ssd, 8gb of ram, 1080p nontouch. One of the best laptops I've owned.

Also, can run Paladins at 720p with mediumish settings

> pen input
> on a non-touch tablet Chinkpad

Why?

To read doujins in tablet mode and draw porn for easy patreon money of course.

I don't get it? Do you think touch makes pen input better? It makes t worse because no palm rejection.

Haettenschweiler, with a few modifications done on inkscape.

Has lenovo ever made a charger with 3 pins on the AC side for the newer square jack?
90% sure this is a knockoff charger with my dock, I just dont want to give it to my friend and blow up his laptop

any ideas on how to disable the touchpad in linux? i've disabled it in the bios, but it still works in debian. i'm running debian on a T60 by the way.

Disable it in mouse settings

xinput --set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Device Enabled" 0

For x220, I run:
synclient TouchpadOff=1
Not sure if it is compatible with T60 though.

stop arguing about touchscreens you faggots

Who here is planning on buying the 51nb x210 motherboard?

How do you clean your beloved thinkpad?

>finally get a decent X220 for $200
>it's not even IPS
>it's missing a couple screws
>it's chipped at the bottom of the mousepad

Some of my my X220 keys are not so responsive anymore. Will a cleanup help? if so, how's the procedure?

you can get a new panel/touchpad for next to nothing on aliexpress and other sites. Same for screws and display.

>it's chipped at the bottom of the mousepad
>tfw your thinkpad doesn't have an integrated mousepad

such a menu isn't really a thing for the flavor of debian i'm running, but thanks anyway.

this exits clean, but doesn't work. weird, because synclient reported "TouchpadOff = 2" even after running that command...

now that worked! thanks dude! now to get it to run at boot...

Yesterday I accidentally spilled some water on my X201 connected to an Ultrabay while it's lid was closed.

After letting it dry out for 24h I tried to turn it on, but all that happens is that the LED lights turn on, then only the battery/power on lights stay on, while the others fade. The screen also stays black. I don't know what to do, please help.

Posting from my FreedomMachine™ (librebooted T60, 14.1"). Getting tired of the display, gonna transplant my board into a T60p 15" flexview chassis and find out if the panel is supported.

Press P to pray to Richard Sapper for me. Will post pics, probably Saturday when I get time to disassemble shit.

There isn't much you can do. Take it apart, carefully clean any visible moisture, and leave it alone for a few more days. While it is dissembled, check the motherboard for signs of water damage (corroded white spots). Hopefully it will work once it has been left to sit longer, that happens often. In the meantime, best to start checking ebay for another meme machine.

>super excited for my t440s to arrive since it's in grade A condition and comes with an SSD, 8gb and the i5 model

>nah I'm good, I know what I got
>finally get to open it
>brother face is "that's it?"
>talks about how thick it is, unnecessary/extinct ports, little shiny smudge on the spacebar for a while (literally that's the only bad thing about the t440s)
>brother leaves telling me to do better next time but he'll give me a pass since I'm growing up and learning

SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK

>T440s
>s
>shitty ulv processor
>brother's gf says she can give me her iPad instead and return my thinkpad and get my money back
well she's not entirely wrong :^)

>>it's not even IPS
Now you got good reason to do FHD mod.

Just got a 220t with 8 gigs of ram, ips and an SSD(shitty SSD but who cares for now)
Actually really enjoying it.
Corell painter works relly well, haven't tried Zbrush yet.
Only Issue is I'm not sure what to do about pen drivers and whatnot, I think the Older ones are a bit DERP but the newer version disable it's touch functions.
Mostly Got it as a laptop but It's relly fun to sketch/paint on sofar.

sounds like your family is fucking terrible

Wew. Your family sounds white and middle class.

i just got a x220with a 500 g hard drive, 4 gb ddr3, ips and i5 for 132 bucks with a 60 day warranty

i put a 125 gb ssd in it for 50 bucks and stuck a second 4 gb ram module i had from my last laptop

so thats 182 for a laptop that will blow anything in its price class thats new out of the fucking water, why aren't these things more popular

also when will the x200/201/220 supply dry up?

tpg anons, i'm a thinkpad virgin, why should i splurge and buy a 900$ thinkpad (looking at either the t470 or t570) instead of the 700$ FULL ALUMINIUM Acer swift 3 with an i5 8250u & 150mx?

spend 150 on a t420

Anyone else use the new gen ThinkPads?
P50 Xeon here.

my condolences

anyone bought it yet? ebay.com/itm/T420-T430-FHD-KIT/162718125848

i wanna be comfy as possible, x220 or x220t?

Can anyone post a link to T420 oleh's bios mod?

>T440
well your brother was right, that fucking trackpad

Cool, I have one too, I still miss my T410's keyboard layout, but I love how lightweight it is.

I have to admit if you're a normal trackpad user then its fine, but if you're using the track point it's fucking hell trying to click the left, scroll, and right buttons. Just going to switch it for a t450s trackpad

are the newer thinkpads bad? i've been eyeind the T/X *70 series but nobody seems to talk about them, what gives?

Hey 2570p bro

downloadmoreram.com/download.html

Nothing inherently bad with them, it's just that people here prefer buying used Thinkpads. There are a few newer thinkpad users here, but they either get them for free through work, or use student/employee discounts. I don't think there is a single person here who has bought a full retail price thinkpad.
Same thing with /r/thinkpads, but I woudl say there is a higher percentage of people with a newer thinkpad.
From what I've heard, the T/X*70 keyboard is the best keyboard you can get on a new laptop, but a T/X*20 one is better

stop jerking off onto your thinkpad

nice fanfic

What specs?

I've got an X220t too, use it as my art machine. I've got W7 on it and the tablet drivers from Lenovo and it seems to work just fine, though occasionally it'll need a restart to fix pressure sensitivity, but that's something my brand-new Intuos does too, so that might just be a Wacom thing in general.

Manga Studio and Photoshop work real well, only issue I've had is the wonky calibration around the edges and the fact that the screen is a somewhat small resolution.

Second for x230t is comfy.
I had a Toughbook a while back that had this neat strap on the back that made it easy to hold with one hand and use with the other while in tablet mode. Anybody know of something similar for Thinkpad tablets?
Also, does anybody even make internal GSM 4g LTE aircards, or do I have to rely on cancerous Mifi hotspots for my WWAN needs?

>ebay.com/itm/T420-T430-FHD-KIT/162718125848
I dunno, that's the first I'm hearing of this one - I've been watching these projects for years, but they always seem to have some BS issue with the T420 flickering.

I don't see anything about them mentioned on forums.thinkpads.com, which is where I usually follow. Idk. I'm considering making a $90 gamble. You too?

>tfw my thinkpad t420, 250gb SSD, 1TB 7200 RPM HDD, and atheros wifi card get here next week

>atheros wifi card
Tight, but why? Is it on the whitelist or something?

I picked up an Intel 3x3 card a couple years ago for mine, but it wasn't on the whitelist (despite coming as an option with 2011-era thinkpads, ugh), so I gave up

Best performance, open source so I can run a linux-libre kernel on it.

Oh, and it's not on the whitelist, but T420 models can flash the BIOS from inside windows to remove the whitelist

I wouldn't gamble as I'm not in a position to spend 90$ + cost of a new panel.
Nevertheless, 90$ is a bit too much for just the kit.
If I was sure it will work, yeah, I probably would already have ordered that shit.

Is this the new 1 2 3 4?

I've recently got aa T470 for university and it's the best laptop I've ever owned. I would love to try out an older one once but I'm really happy with mine. I'm running Debian on it.

Thinking about buying a X220 i7 2x2.7, 8GB Ram, IPS LCD, 128GB SSD, win 10 pro.

Pls tell me what to do

I decided to crack open my T440p for the first time after having it in a warranty repair a few months back to repaste it because of heat issues
I noticed that the two thermal pads are basically fucked when disassembling it and won't stick
Service manual doesn't list any thermal pads in the fan disassembly and I won't be able to replace them for 3 weeks

How fucked am I? Will it help with the heat issues?

fixed by turning off finger touching

Is £175 a good price for a t440p?

>windows
Install Manjaro KDE

Spec?
