>friend makes fun of me because I type 50wpm while we writes 70wpm
>start using his method (the "correct" one, with indexes on F and J)
>now type 20wpm
Am I doomed? Is it a matter of practice?
How do people use pinkies for so many keys? Mine are like atrophied
Friend makes fun of me because I type 50wpm while we writes 70wpm

poast your hands lol
70wpm is nothing to brag about. I do ~110wpm and even that is considered slow to most people
If you're gonna learn to touch type, switch to Dvorak or Workman.
I type like 100wpm but it used to be higher when I played MMOs 8 hours a day.
So my suggestion is for you to play MMOs all day like a neet.
You're retarded.
go to typeracer.com, pic related.
same, i type like 120 wpm if my rip my ass out, and i use all of my fingers, but my friend types 140 wpm without breaking a sweat and i saw him do 175 one time on typingrace.
why's he retarded?
there is no reason to use anything other than QWERTY unless you are just trying to be a hipster
Workman's a fucking meme
...
congrats
There are typists who extend far above and beyond the normal level of proficiency. According to "On the Reappraisal of Microeconomics" author Robert Ayers, a highly proficient typist can hit upwards of 120 WPM compared to the 20 to 30 WPM typing speed of a "key pecker." According to The Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Barbara Blackburn of Salem, Oregon holds the record as the fastest typist of all time. Blackburn could type at 150 WPM over a stretch of 50 minutes and peaked at bursts of 212 WPM.
There's no reason to use QWERTY unless you still think you're gonna be typing on a typewriter. Or if you use dog shit operating system that doesn't let you set a layout beyond the ones built in.
I've never tested to see how fast I can type, I'm gonna go try it a couple times and report back
I only use 4 fingers to type and I can type pretty fast. You need to go out less and get rid of your friends.
That's either really impressive or really sad.
Ok first couple tries I got around ~70wpm.
Can definitely speed it up if I practice, making mistakes on punctuation slowed me down
How fast? Below 140WPM doesn't count fast
Keep practicing, user. Your autism will accrue. :)
>friend got angry at me for touch typing
>"WHY ARE YOU SHOWING OFF?"
hey guys is 100 wpm good
1 word per second seems slow as shit
Wow, with speeds like that you'll be able to get yourself a good job as a secretary if you travel back in time a few decades to when such jobs still existed.
um he does 70wpm, hand written
Where can I improve my typing? I'm a fucking key pecker, so I type slow as ass
mavis beacon
I do 80 wpm and i am embarrised by it. Girl at work does 120 easily.
I'm actually not far from 50WPM at around 56-65wpm normally. Though I could go much better if I wasn't so goddamn inaccurate. I can barely go three words without making a mistake and taking a long ass time to go back and correct it, and eventually fucking up again while trying to fix it.
Anyway if you practiced your touch typing you would probably be able to make it into the mid 80s after a while
also
>got a nice set of PBT keys for a cherry brown board
>wpm actually went down a couple on average
I do fucking better on a tiny laptop keyboard
And then what happens when you move out of your parents basement and realise every other keyboard in the entire world is qwerty? And because you've been using Dvorak you type qwerty at like 20wpm now and you suck ass
Women have a minor natural dexterity advantage
If you practiced enough you could be faster but most of the time it's not worth it at 70+ WPM
110 is pretty fast user. The average of all the tech dudes I know is probably in the nineties.
For some reason I can only type fast if I dont think about it. The moment I think about typing, I start second guessing myself and have to look at the keyboard. I'd say I'm probably mid to high 90s when I type fast.
How the fuck did you type 50wpm without upyoursies on d and k?
I've been touch typing for one month. Currently typing 50wpm on average.
Average 95-110 depending on the type of text. Dvorak. I stay closer to 110 on my laptops (X200 series, X240) than I do on my clicky keyboards (CODE Green, IBM Model F-AT). But my clickies feel better when typing so there's that, plus I can go for much longer periods before my fingers start to feel any different due to desk providing better support and keys having higher travel.
I sometimes experience very short bouts of carpal tunnel when taking notes in classes etc due to the ultra low travel of the X240. Protip: don't get an X240.
