Why is it when you try to tell normalfags about how the government is actively spying on all of us all day every day, they immediately say "nothing to hide nothing to fear!! XD" Why don't they care about their right to privacy being eroded?

You're going to die anyways so who cares about some FBI loser watching your hentai, loser?

Don't ironically shitpost please, it degrades the quality of the board.

I'm being 100% honest. Who. The. Fuck. Cares? Why waste time you could be spending walking through a forest sperging out about some terrorist tracking system? You're not that important.

I'm not the OP but the assumption you're making is that nothing is going to change. What if the CIA gets filled with a bunch of fucks who really do want to control you like the KGB did in Soviet Russia?
What if laws are passed requiring everyone to use state-approved computers anc cellphones, because the freedom to have the devices of your choosing are impeding upon security?
Sure that last one is an extreme circumstance, but governments can and do change over time. The freedoms you enjoy now are not guarenteed to continue existing in the future.

god you fucking americlaps can't just do anything without excessive mention of muh freedum do you

Tried talking to my family about this. They have no strong political views, commit no crimes worthy of prosecution, their internet usage is Facebook, clickbaity newspaper articles and "where can I Buy X". Of more concern to them is; am I going to get more than a 2% payrise this year, isn't it annoying that holiday companies put their prices up at school holidays, damn the car needs a new windscreen

Most people are happy to pay their taxes and give Google all their metadata, so long as they get a beer and a blowjob on Friday night

It's not even that extreme. Sure, it's not being mandated by the state, but have you seen how many fucking people are shilling hard for PRISM these days? "Just use Google Chrome as your browser!" "Buy an iPhone X!", "Stop using Loonix, Windows 10 just werks"
It's sickening, but actually kinda genius. They obviously couldn't get laws passed to force everybody into to botnet, so they do it through insidious brainwashing programs and through the marketing powers of the companies they own.

Just go fucking live in the mountains and disconnect yourself from the internet if you don't like it
Nobody is forcing you to use those

tell them about how Drumpf can now spy on their journalists

>Why don't they care about their right to privacy being eroded?
They are unable to grasp the implications or even begin to fathom the amount of data that is being collected.

People oppose to the government reading every letter being sent, because they can understand what this process actually mean to themselves. But people who think that mobile phones run on magic, are completely unable to comprehend what the fuck "collecting and storing traffic metadata" even means or why it affects them.

all of the things you listed literally just werk though.
Until someone makes a useable linux distro + browser + phone, then you can get normies involved

It isn't a collective effort where everyone you mention got into a room and said "Let's push the things that make prism work better". It's the expand-or-die mentality of corporations along with their unwillingness to fight back against the governent because most of their users have made it clear that they DO NOT CARE what happens to their data.
Google markets its stuff because it wants to make money
Windows markets its stuff because it wants to make money
Both of those companies are very concerned with market share of users. Google is trying very hard to take from other browser user bases. They're not doing it for the government.
Windows it trying to stop Apple from getting a more significant foothold among normies.
You've got to try to look at this as less of a collective effort and more of:
>The NSA/CIA know what ordinary people care about
>The NSA/CIA know what corporations care about.
>The NSA/CIA exploit this knowledge and curb our liberties because it makes their job easier to do; even if it means that as a result we may be fucked 10 years from now because of the government having too much power or that there may be incidents where individual agents abuse their power and there is nothing we can fucking do about it.
There's a difference between being a realist and being a conspiracy theorist.

>Windows
Sorry I meant Microsoft. Oh well.

Another way to look at this: there's almost no way to avoid this and its only going to get more powerful. You can't control the data about you, moving past a camera or buying products leaves reams of data any public or private company can trace

I have a three year old and a 1 year old; I'm guessing they will consider our generations idea of privacy almost quaint.

Moreover; if you submit to "The Botnet" it makes your life easier, I have the TOR VPN clean browser stuff on my phone, but most of the time I turn it off and tell google everything. In return they tell me where I parked my car, how long it'll take me to get home with highly accurate traffic and navigation prediction, push adverts at me I'm genuinely interested in, push youtube videos at me I'll actually watch. The GPS sharing freaks me out, so I've done my best to delete that, but again its kinda useful.

Back to the future argument; another decade or two, we'll all be walking around with cameras that record everything we see, pushing highly targeted adverts and information at us, juggling dozens of social media accounts. The kids that adapt will do well.

Folk like us who hide will struggle.

How the dissidents express themselves will be interesting and I cannot begin to predict that

They will come for you in the mountains. The feds overtly stated that Randy Weaver taunted them by moving out to the boonies. No one will be spared.

About that recurrent scenario were an authoritarian state uses """botnet""" services to spy and control it's citizens : how do you explain that authoritarian states today such as China or North Korea manage quite well at blocking their people's freedoms even though most so called botnet services are blocked in those country ? Don't you think that means their are more efficient ways than following billions of people's footprints on dozen of services ?
People continue using "botnet" services because the so called threat is to far away and has never been seen today, nobody has been silently eliminated by the NSA because they said they didn't like Trump.
For that matters, such a situation is very unlikely, today's institution in the West are pretty stable and you can't just throw them away and disrespect human rights like this. Look at the struggle Trump is facing at applying is campaign promises : the usa isn't quitting the Paris accord, Obama care isn't getting suppressed yet ...

>Why don't they care about their right to privacy being eroded?
Just very, very stressful life that is being imposed on everybody's daily routine which makes things like privacy appear petty and unimportant.

I mean, who cares about privacy if you gotta worry about food and shelter, employment and good opinion, public scrutiny and law?
"Don't mind us, worry about *this* instead."

>The NSA/CIA know what corporations care about.
So you mean the NSA/CIA knows what it cares about?

China and North Korea are not a present, but a look into the dark future
>nobody has been silently eliminated by the NSA
If they were eliminated silently, how do you know they weren't eliminated?

>normalfags

God I hate this phrase. It painfully shows how the poster doesn't have a fucking job.

This

>The freedoms you enjoy now are not guarenteed to continue existing in the future.
Exactly, and it escapes your control, so being a privacy obsessed nerd won't do anything. If the freedoms have to go because the government changes, what makes you think you can do anything to stop it?
Do you think the KGB could have been stopped by having more privacy oriented laws before they came into power?

because if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.

trying to avoid the all-seeing eye is

A) impossible

and

B) wrong

because people can commit terrible crimes with computers, law enforcement needs a way to access any computer at any time.

>Of more concern to them is; am I going to get more than a 2% payrise this year, isn't it annoying that holiday companies put their prices up at school holidays, damn the car needs a new windscreen

because those are things that actually matter.

>Most people are happy to pay their taxes and give Google all their metadata

because government and thus law and order can not exist without taxes and because who gives a fuck about metadata?

>so long as they get a beer and a blowjob on Friday night

these are the things that make life worth living. unlike you, these people have lives worth living.

>people who think that mobile phones run on magic
This is sad. People really need to stop thinking about these things as some magical glass "devices", and understand what they really are. COMPUTERS. They are computers, with CPUs and GPUs and RAM and storage and shit.

Once mentioned this to a guy at work who was bragging about his new amazon echo. His response was that, as his children didn't give him any privacy using the bathroom when he was having a shower, it didn't matter what the government was doing.
I guess he thought it was the governments job to teach his kids manners too.

Unlike your average neet, most normies have bigger fish to fry like raising their kids, paying the bills, getting ahead at work, and tending to their business.

Idle hands are the devil's playthings.

fuck off CIA nigger

nothing you can do, normies will be saying that right up until they worship the Beast and his image. They are already doing it metaphysically

some people are accustomed to or will accept hard tyranny, whereas in the west our traditions mean we must be controlled with soft tyranny. Elites are legitimately scared of the reaction americans (at least, due to guns) would have to hard tyranny. It will come sooner or later, however.

they just have to make sure they will win first

it is YOU who will fuck off.

I don't think that you're taking the issue on the right side : in the west we don't have hard tyranny because our ancestors fought to have a soft tyranny and a stable one ( very difficult to move to a hard tyranny ). In the east however they always lived under hard tyranny, but there's a progressive change toward more freedom, especially of speech.
That's why I think that a hard tyranny is very unlikely to begin.
Also I didn't mention the fact that you talk about "the elites" as if it designated a bunch of bad people working together for the wrath of the world, which is a bit ridiculous view : there are a lot of people that have a higher social status than us ( I assume ) but they certainly not work together and certainly to create a new dictatorship, they are human like us, they go the toilets, have to pay they're taxes etc etc.

because they're steaks on the table, by choice and consent.
redpill: most people like being slaves as long as it means safety

yes, because not liking Trump is an important manner that requires drastic action. When it actually matters, like say if massive amounts of capital are on the line, then yes, they absolutely will snuff out your ass

Why do normalfags say they have nothing to hide? They have infinitely more pictures of their genitals floating around the internet than I do.

I cannot think of any realistic scenario in which there are huge stakes linked to your specific data yet you have no one to protect yourself about people collecting your data though.

Most people consent to a certain level of surveillance because they realize it helps keep things safe and orderly. They don't have any ideas or interests anyone would be concerned by, so why should they give a shit? Of course you are more worried about people watching you if you're on Sup Forums a lot, where people talk about all kinds of edgy shit, from far right politics to deviant japanese pornography

What do you have to hide OP?

>Haha its going to happen anyways
>Why even do anything about it
Hello CIA/FBI/NSA

I hate you already defeated cucks and I wish you all would just take your own lives so I could stop seeing your garbage posts all the time
it's worse than /r9k/

tell them that they should be required to be morbidly obese because nobody needs to be able to outrun a police officer

...

This. Ask them about the press in dark timed

i posted that ironically and got a warning

Chine has their own bot net, and is now moving up to a mandatory botnet with score

It's not like some made up hypothetical scenario. Literally a generation ago the FBI and CIA were doing a bunch of unethical shit. Like communist witch hunts or attacking Martin Luther King. The government shouldn't have this power. It's dangerous.

When normies say they have nothing to hide, tell them it's completely legal for Google to make their entire internet history public. To neighbors, potential employers, lovers, everyone. Someday it will happen. A lot of people who said they had "nothing to hide" will be demanding the government remove their embarrassing shit from the net, and it will be too late.

Hell legality or motive is irrelevant. As long as the data exists, it's just sitting there waiting for some hacker or disgruntled employee to leak it.

real talk from a non-cianigger. In my city there is an app tied to the parking meters that is wildly popular. This app collects at least 40% of any meaningful personally identifying information that a person could possibly possess but people use it with abandon.
You can't have meaningful privacy laws when people are just giving away their info for free. You can't cure stupid but you can profit from it. my 2c.

I'm not going to mow the lawn, mom!
I wasn't masturbating at all!

>nothing to hide nothing to fear!
the only people that say this are cops, and only when they want to search you without legal grounds to do so.
No normal person ever says this, or even rationalizes any similar for any reason.
