First question: I already have 8GB of 2400MHz RAM. I want to take 8GB of 1600MHz RAM out of my old computer to put into my new computer. Will the difference in speed hurt performance?
Second question: I want to take out my old 1TB HDD and use it as a second HDD in my new computer. Is it okay to just take out and drop in my new computer? Do I need to make any special precautions or anything since it already has files on it?
Third question: What would happen if I took out my old Radeon HD 6870 and put it alongside my RX 580 2GB GDDR5? Would this even work or make sense?
Thanks. I want to make the most out of the parts in my old computer rather than just let it collect dust and eventually break.
first: it depends what you use it for. If you do memory heavy tasks, it will run slower than just 8gb of 2.4khz, BUT if you are unable to do certain tasks with the 8gb then you have no choice but to upgrade
Second: No, should be just plug and play assuming your new computer is compatible with the file system used on the old one
third: you can do it. use the extra one to mine alt coins or something

I want to configure a tls terminating proxy ( a special type of reverse web proxy) for my home web server. Does anybody have suggestions for what I should install? I want lightweight, fast and secure. Additional features like load balancing are not needed, its only job will be to terminate an encrypted connection and forward the unencrypted data to the back end

not familiar with the language your using but generally unsigned integer data types can only hold up to around 4 billion before overflowing, looks like your using signed ints which hold half that. switch to unsigned longs.

Just had my computer wake from sleep in the middle of the night again, this time it says it was woken by the USB controller which makes no sense since the only two wake armed devices (I just verified this again so it hasn't changed) are my keyboard and network controller which should only wake it on a magic packet which my tablet sends from time to time. Checked in powershell and there are no tasks with permission to set wake timers. Anyone know what's going on? Just some random power glitch that probably won't repeat itself or what?

Got an ASUS Z97-A motherboard and ever since I installed Ubuntu with GRUB2 it tends to add extra entries to boot/efi (especially when I boot into GRUB) when I boot until eventually there are so many that it will lock up at POST until I unplug my SSD so it can reset itself. I think it doesn't do this as much when I boot directly into Windows bootloader though I haven't been able to test it that much, and using efibootmgr as soon as I go into Ubuntu to clear out the extra shit does prevent the worst outcome at least, but anyone know why it would do this and an actual fix for it?

Question 1) No, it doesn't do any problems. They will work but at their frequency. An advice: Put the 2400 Mhz Ram into one channel, and the two 1600 Mhz in the second one. If they don't work in dual channel it will not do any problems. Controll first if your motherboard support the 1600 Mhz Ram!

How much extra space should I leave on a W7 partition for updates and shit?
Also is there any reason not to disable hibernation on W10? I already have hybrid sleep disabled and this shit is wasting like 12GB of my SSD space along with probably a bunch of writes (though the thing is rated to 400TB total bytes written and I've only used a bit over 8 so far in the almost a year since I got it so I'm not that worried about that)

I'm looking for a second hand laptop, and I see a lot of people selling laptops with a windows 7 sticker (and license) who ""upgraded"" to windows 10. My question is, if I were to buy one of these laptops, would the windows 7 license still be valid for a fresh windows 7 install? Or are those licenses now only valid for windows 10?

Got some issues, hopefully y'all can help me out with them.
Windows 10, Firefox 56, whatever the latest version of Sandboxie is, all installed last month, so there shouldn't be much issue with long-term bloat issues.
When I run Firefox in Sandboxie, I can't login to Gmail, and some sites just won't load. Gmail, I get to the page where I type in my email address, but the button to proceed to the password screen(Why are companies moving towards separate username/password screens btw? Especially as more users adopt password managers) doesn't do anything. I can click it, and it doesn't even start loading anything, same with hitting Enter. Other problem sites, the menu bars will typically load in, but then the content won't. Most sites work, but a few don't.
Other issue: New computer. Fast computer. 850 Evos, Ryzen 1600X, 1080 Ti, fresh Windows 10 Enterprise. It takes as long to boot than my old Phenom with the same 850 Evos, and then lags more once it gets to the desktop. After hitting the desktop, it's 30s before I can do anything, typing just goes letter. By. Letter. By. Letter. Or sometimes things get weird as I click other stuff as it's starting up. Boot, open Firefox, Ctrl+T new tab, amazon ctrl+enter for amazon.com, close the Slack window that pops up, launch Steam, go back to Firefox, it managed to type am before I switched to another window, now it's going letter by letter... And it finished with amazonmazonazon.com and another blank tab is open. Only startup stuff is Slack, CCleaner, and Logitech Gaming Software, and I've ruled those out already. What else should I look into? Everything runs flawlessly after that startup lag. Someone online said it might be Windows Defender.
Which leads to my next problem. Windows Defender. I want a real AV, such as Common Sense 2018. All the guides I've found to disable it are out of date, they show just one Windows Defender category in gpedit.msc, but there are a bunch. How do I disable it, and should I disable all of it?

I'm trying to create a dual-boot Windows/MacOS system. I have a full system image of my Windows install, and a functioning install disk for Sierra (I successfully installed it earlier and then accidentally overwrote my MBR for Windows), so I now have a blank laptop and the tools to install both systems. Now, for the kicker; How do I install both systems? Wangblows is demanding that it format the entire goddamn hard drive to restore, and it refuses to install to just a partition (wat). On the other hand, the only way to get Windows to boot with Clover (that I know of) is to install Windows through clover... which I can't do, because of the authoritative disk formatting, and the fact that it's not a fresh install. Is there any way to swing this?

Well, I just tried to use Eraser and every time I try to shred a file it gives me the error. "cannot delete file the file is either compressed, encrypted or sparse." It does this with every single file I try to use it on and they are none of those things. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I just ran recuva and while it was able to recover that there had been files in the folders that I deleted them from the file names and contents were completely scrambled with gibberish so it looks like it's shredded them but just throws errors anyways? I downloaded the latest firefox nightly for Ubuntu 64 bit
Mozilla Firefox 58.0a1
I also disabled pocket, and removed all the clutter from the home page of firefox and set the only search engine to Google in the search settings (removed all others). And I cleared all history and am using private mode. But I still see site suggestions in the address bar. I see Facebook,Amazon,Wikipedia,Yahoo, Instagram and some chinese sites like qq dot com, world dot taobao dot com, and sohu dot com, sina dot com dot cn. How do I complete delete any reference to these sites from my firefox. Should I download the source and modify it myself?
Edit: Alright, I ended up searching in the git repo. And a quick search for qq DOT com shows up a lot of files. How do I convince mozilla to stop adding these websites in their source code?

Turn off suggestions in the settings
Carter Lewis
I looked it up online. Not sure if it works.
For Android Device:
Step 1:
First of all, go to “Settings” and then turn on WiFi.
Step 2:
Now, tap and hold the current connection for some time. Now select “Modify Network” and then tap on “Show Advanced Options”. As the advanced options show up, change the IP settings from DHCP to static.
Step 3:
Now, go down the list until you find DNS 1 and DNS 2. Now change the current DNSs to use open DNS (208.67.222.123, 208.67.220.123)
spyzie /block/block-porn-sites.html

Creating a pig latin translator in java. Got one working okay, but have a problem with consonant clusters. How would I have the program find the two chars in let's say a word like "cluster" so that it's usterclay? charAt only seems to work with one value in the parentheses.
Tried googling already, seems like nobody really implements this part in their pig latin translators.
Got an X220 with the 6205 wifi card, was told to try disabling wireless-N features as a fix for connection drops requiring reboot to fix. I need to set "11n_disable=1" as a permanent parameter for the iwlwifi module. How do I do that?
Jordan Young
>only seems to work with one value in the parentheses It's just a shitty utility method. Have you list of vowels and iterate through the target string until you find one.

i lost my RAID 1 configuration in the BIOS because i reverted it to all defaults in hopes of fixing an unrelated problem. i forgot, and did not expect, that setting the drive modes back to default AHCI from RAID in the BIOS would clear my RAID configuration. now if i push CTRL+I at boot no existing RAID volumes are listed anymore.
i now have two 4TB hard drives with identical contents, identical names, identical file systems and cluster sizes. i've lost no data at all. if i were to CTRL+I and boot into the intel rapid storage option ROM at boot and re-create my RAID 1 configuration with the original settings, will it save my data, or erase all of it and treat it like a brand new volume?
Brody Sullivan
What does it mean for a process to use x% of the CPU? Is it the amount of instructions the OS dedicates to that application per second, or something of the sort?
Nolan Brown
Backup that data before you do anything.
Chase Rivera
>Have you list of vowels
Already did that, used a charAt method. Can only use one integer in the charAt dimension, so can't find a solution for consonant clusters like "tr","cl",or"br". Can't use two letters. Already tried using a string ("cl") and concatenating two chars ('c'+'l'), but both don't work.
Brandon Fisher
Make a CD and boot from that.

Redpill me on bitcoins. People argue that bitcoins are better than real money because 1. it's a decentralized currency that will hold its value better than, say, the US dollar, even if markets crash 2. it will raise in value and make you rich or something Now to me, this basically sounds like a pyramid scam? But whatever. If people are worried about markets crashing and their money becoming worthless, why would they want to rely on a currency that requires their computers to work? You need money and electricity to use your computers. And have you ever heard of gold or silver? And the value of bitcoins is all over the place. it's anything but secure. I just don't get it, honestly. It's like a get-rich-quick scheme that brainlets jump at

Lots of people slam Windows but maybe I'm just lucky. All installs of Windows 7 on my 3 client pc's all problem free, no reinstall required on any of them for a long time (like several yrs). My server os, Windows Home Server 2011 (2008R2 Based) has been running smooth as butter. Recently expanded the storage and it didn't blink, just works. I dunno maybe one day the joke will backfire and I'll get bit in the ass but so far nothing.
Adam Morgan
that's what looks like is my only option. i have to introduce a third "backup" hard drive into the recovery process before i can even do anything, which isn't the fucking point of RAID. i know RAID isn't a backup, but i shouldn't have lost my RAID configuration just because i switched the drive boot modes from RAID to AHCI. it's a system in which is built upon the idea of REDUNDANCY and RECOVERY. all i fucking did was remove its configuration by complete accident. onboard RAID is complete fucking bullshit. after this is all over i'll have a third hard drive called "backup" that isn't even in the RAID array, because it can't be, and i won't actually be using it for backup, or anything at all.
optionally i could just wash my hands of RAID, format one of these drives and just move on with life. fuck it.
Oliver Torres
Honestly bitcoins are kinda like most things now, pure electronic bullshit. Money is now just a pile of electronic bits some computer/bank teller puts there. Actual currency is shrinking vastly. If everyone in the U.S ran to there bank to withdraw funds, the whole industry would fail. It's all bullshit in the end. Bitcoins are kinda what money laundering was back in the day, untraceable but unlike money laundering its legal. long as you use it to buy legal shit that is.
