Someone started this meme that "SSDs are a meme" even though they're a mature technology and been affordable for nearly 10 years now.
The SSD in my thinkpad cost me only $60 for 120GB. $60 buys you 240GB now.
I didn't even need it because debian ran really well on a hard drive (30 seconds boot), but I wanted to try one, and it cut my boot times down to 6 seconds. I'm not even using it to it's full potential, it's stuck at SATA 2 mode (3gbps). Boot times don't really matter, what really did it for me was how disk thrashing is LITERALLY a thing of the past. Swapping is so painless and barely noticeable that you would never want to use a spinning rust drive ever again. I've since upgraded the ram, but I felt zero difference afterwards, because constant disk thrashing on an SSD is so imperceptible.
Jordan Mitchell
I want the source of this qt3.14. Who is she and where can I find more of her?
Jordan Gray
It's because people are retarded and think "lol who cares about boot times, I ll go get a cup of coffee." people don't realize that your SSD means your storage is never a bottleneck ever again. It's VASTLY noticable on Windows, since Windows is constantly writing to disk. Any sort of majorsoftware update will max out an HDD at 100%, making everything unresponsive. This doesn't happen on an SSD. I would never put Windows on anything but an SSD again.
>>upgrade from 8gb to 16gb of ram Clearly you don't use your computer for much then.
8GB now isn't enough to have a web browser open at the same time as a game without causing swapping.

What was your i5 and i7 clocked at?
Brandon Nguyen
4GB is the bare minimum to use google chrome without swapping. I used to use 2GB, and the swapping was frequent but hardly noticable because SSD. btw, this is with 10 tabs open.

I do

It is my 144hz screen reverts back to 60 all the time with a weird boot or whatever and i dont notice shit till i think about it but its definitely noticable
Sebastian Kelly
If OP can't see a noticable difference between 60 Hz and 144 Hz, he is a faggot. But I agree 144 Hz is very expensive.
Isaac Turner
You don't notice a change from 60hz to 144hz even if you have the power to keep 144 FPS. But then you decide to play on a friends 60hz monitor and the change is apparent. It's those kind of improvement that you only notice when you loose it. I agree through, SSD is the bigger game changer you can buy
Juan Torres
Literally all im doing right now is have chrome open
Really makes u think
Xavier Williams
500gb nvme ssd + 3.5 disk x 3 but never plugged in is the best way to go. Its a shame that ssds are still so pricey because once the hit 2x the price of a HDD imma replace all my disks.

Your taskbar says otherwise.

Weird , I did i5 to i7 and noticed a huger difference. Same with 60 to 144hz

I do own an SSD. I am just not as uneducated as you and have an understanding of what an SSD should be used for and what an HDD should be used for, because both have their positives and negatives for certain tasks.
Juan White
Fucking sandbox video games don't use this much memory. We need a new fucking browser today, one focused on clean code and not in any way related to either Chromium or Mozilla shit. A fresh start uncorrupted by the aforementioned shit.

1. who the fuck doesn't own an SSD in 2017? 2. why would you get a faster processor or more RAM if it was already enough for what you were doing?

I've owned SSD's since 2012. If you don't notice difference in these things, 144hz specially, you may have some kind of mental problem.

I have an SSD on my company machine, so yeah, it really is a huge difference.
Nevertheless I decided to buy a HDD for my private machine, because instead of 128 GB SSD (which is a reasonable size for most people) I have a 1TB HDD, so I can dual boot two linux distros, store all my shit and still can backup from my working machine.
I really think SSD is a nice thing, but it doesn't always make sense. Frankly I don't care about some more seconds bootup or I/O delay. If I had more money I'd probably buy the biggest SSD I could and add an external HDD for backup and storage purposes.
Nicholas Myers
I agree with him though. Playing games just mean she's young with the mind of a child which is not a bad thing for women to be. Getting tattoos on the other hand shows that she is degenerate.
Logan Robinson
I can confirm this. >have a 2010 Macbook Pro, with a Core 2 Duo. >It's always been slow and runs hot. >One day tear it apart and put new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. >Fans run less now. >Put an SSD into it, fresh install using APFS. >I can actually use it for shitposting and writing now.
I was actually going to buy a new laptop, be it a macbook for a memepad I've saved money.
Liam Thompson
Women are absolute trash, traps will replace the vaginal jew
Camden Hill
There's not much difference between an i5 and i7 apart from hyperthreading. Also if you use less than 8gb ram of course there wouldn't be a difference.
Hunter Myers
>>upgrade from an hdd to an ssd >>notice a huge upgrade in all around performance, it's quiet and fairly inexpensive
HDD have been the bottleneck for like 15 years now. If you get a full-specced computer, but run everything on a HDD then it won't run much faster than a full-specced computer from 2002.
Hunter Morgan
Playing games is degenerate. You fucking child.
Carson Gomez
>why dont you own an ssd Sup Forums? I exclusively use ssd since 2009. I'm not poor so it's not a problem.

Kayden Taylor
IF THIS IS A MAN I WILL FIND YOU OP
SSD IS THE MOST NOTICEABLE FOR ALL AROUND SYSTEM SNAPPYNESS YES
MORE RAM IS OBVIOUS WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF IT AND START PAGING FROM DISK
HIGH REFRESH RATE IS LITERALLY GAME CHANGING FOR COMPETITIVE FPS, BUT CRUCIALLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOWEST INPUT LAG, AKA CRT IS STILL MASTER RACE ONLY SKRUB CASUALS WONT NOTICE
Nathaniel Collins
I do. I'm ordering a chink one for my chinkpad later on too
Dylan Allen
Fucking retard >upgrade from an i5 to an i7 You were supposed to upgrade to i7 if you had core2duo Also hyperthreading isn't real >upgrade from 8gb to 16gb of ram Oh really? It helps me a lot with 12K canvas in photoshop
Fucking neo/g.
Justin Watson
144hzx is a gaming equvalent of audiophilia. 4k@60 hz > 1440p@140hz any time and even in shooters Also when measured everything entire system response time in shooters from a moseclick to a shot is in hunderds of miliseconds and the monitor input lag is by far the smallest component of delay.
Kevin Hernandez

Good thing I own TWO SSDS. Double the speed!
Oliver Ortiz
Recently built my new PC, upgrading from a real old one. First time getting an SSD, so I was looking forward to that incredible speed. And, yeah it's faster, but I'm not exactly blown away. It's just nice, but if I had to go back to HD I wouldn't even be bothered much.

On windows, yes.
Linux is at least better than chromium.
Camden Phillips
Windows RAM usage scales with the amount of memory available. Makes sense, really.

This, you see the difference as soon as you move the mouse.
Cooper Long
this post triggers the poorfags. i feel sorry for them they are missing out on ssd performance,no noise and better power consumption.
