A popular electronics store had a Singles' Day sale today and a decent mechanical keyboard was just 30€. Didn't get one, all sold out in seconds. Frustrated as fuck right now.

How do you guys even type in long length with 60% keyboards? The arrow keys are so helpful
Levi Cruz
There are easily accessible function layers. Say, you map your FN button to Caps Lock and bind the arrow keys to hjkl or jkl; You can easily press caps with your left pinky and then use the arrow keys with your right hand still on homerow. It may take some getting used to, but in the end is faster and more ergonomic than moving your hand from homerow to the navigation cluster.
Liam Bailey
>you map your FN button to Caps Lock That's a pretty great idea. Much better than regular FN+WASD/IJKL, though works too.
Aaron Rivera
Brain fart can happen to anyone, man.

first mech keyboard here
>budget 100 USD >location Japan >preferred switch type Red or Black >layout ANSI pref although ISO is fine too >form factor 100% or 80% >backlight as long as it can be turned off

Is there currently a good deal available on a Varmilo VA87Mac?
Parker Lewis
I got this used for only 15$. It's a Rapoo V500
If anything, Linear switches are a mistake. Nice keyboard, but linear switches feels a bit wrong.
What was it? You can get a vis tech for around that price.

Best ansi TKL under 100 buckeroos? I miss arrow keys

So i have a Keyboard with cherry red switches. However its too big and i want to get a keyboard in this layout. Am i better off with a DIY build reusing the red switches or should i just get a noppoo choc mini and switch keycaps.
I tried it about 6 months ago. it was super comfy for my wrist, but the key layout, and lack of trackpoint threw me off, so i returned it. currently i have old IBM ultranav, but lack of super key is a turn off, even though it has trackpoint. what do?
Jose Fisher
Split keyboard with tenting kit is the closest thing you'll get. The Ergodox (EZ) is expensive as shit, but in my opinion even more ergonomic than the MS Ergo keyboards. You can bind the mouse cursor to the keyboard keys too, but that's more of a workaround than a solution to the lack of a trackpoint. The only mech keyboard with a trackpoint is the Unicomp Model M and that TeX Yoda or whatever this meme is called.
Lucas Parker
is ergonomic keyboard a meme, or does it actually help to prevent carpal tunnel? that MS was super comfy, but i was too used with trackpoint.... now that im tring to use i3wm, i need less of reason to use trackpoint, but still
Leo Gray
This keyboard looks amazing but they seem cheap as fuck online.
What am I missing.
Are they shit?

While I didn't suffer from RSI or anything similar when I got my Ergodox EZ, it is definitely much more comfortable to write on an ergo board than it is on a normal one. I've heard people with RSI say that an ergo board helped them a lot, though. The MS Ergonomic Keyboard is also pretty much one of the best ergos you can buy if you don't mind it being a rubber dome.
Samuel Foster
I've been using my noppoo for about two years now, it's fantastic
Joshua Campbell
i think ultranav is a rubber dome, so i guess i dont mind it.
Nathan Lopez
going the custom route allows will always be more expensive then buying a prebuilt. But you get to create it however you like. If you want custom then get the KBD75, if you don't then get the mini
Hunter Bell
Then go for it. Ergonomic boards are worth it in the long run.
Gavin Peterson
I know this isn't tech support thread or anything but I've been Googling this shit for the better part of 2 hours and haven't found anything remotely related.
I have an old as fuck Logitech G15 keyboard that I love. The keyboard recently started to stop registering K, /, right shift, and enter keys. If I hold the keys down for a few seconds they start responding again for a short while, regular pressure. The intervals between this happening is becoming shorter and shorter. I cleaned the shit out of it and other keyboards work fine.
I would be eternally grateful to anyone who has any info on a potential fix.
Buying a new one isn't a fix.
Aaron Barnes
Should I get the Vortex Race 3?
Evan Jones
is that a starship panel? my conjecture is that something on the pcb is broken and sometimes it contacts while you exercise pressure on it
Tyler Nguyen
This is what I assumed. I was just praying someone else might have had a miracle for me. I've never struc or spilled anything on this eyboard before though.
Probably just gonna bite the bullet and get another eyboard with macro eys. I would get another G15 if it wasn't so hard to find the original instead of V2.
Couldn't even get the eys bac during this entire post it's so fuced.

Or do you think the Vibe is a better board?

I am normally adding this line to .xprofile on all my computers:
This makes caps lock work as an additional control modifier when held and as escape when pressed (really great when using Vim or Spacemacs).
I changed the Tada to use ESC as Caps Lock using their tool, but there was no option to make it work as a modifier as well. My fix from above also doesn't work anymore because the caps lock is now set to es by the firmware.
Is there anyway to also get the modifier functionality so I can get rid of fixing it via configs?

Thank you, friend.

What keyboard is this?

Gotta fire up QMK and customize it yourself. But it already has the function you want available, so you don't have to modify the default keymap for tada68 much docs.qmk.fm/feature_advanced_keycodes.html#mod-tap

whoa what the fuck that actually looks pretty cool
Luis Perez
do you think that has nkro? also >screwmodded thats a shame, why didnt they just boltmod it?
No, all Model M's are membrane based and are not NKRO capable. Screw mods are just as good as bolt mods if done correctly.

What's a decent cheap chink mechanical keyboard? Preferably without clicky switches, or else I get lynched by my coworkers.
Jacob Garcia
Huh? It comes with those too.

Reminder that the fewer keys you have, the better you become at programming

Looking for a decent 60-65% (with arrow keys). Been eyeing up the Tada68 and VA67M and similar. Want something with pretty standard key layout/size so that I can easily replace keycaps. Don't want to spend over $100 USD. Are there any good 11/11 deals?
Henry Gomez
My 1st mech keyboard arrived today. Black switches, I like it but prob would like browns better.
Ethan Hughes
Oh, the botnet keyboard.
James Barnes
Indeed it is. I'm not going to install their software though.

A Vortex concept that probably won't release for another few years
Dylan Campbell
That's an engineering sample. The actual release will have the grey keys

here Fuck, just visited kprepublic page at taobao to see pics of the keyboard I just bough and discovered the Chink guy is already selling a REALLY NICE 96 kit. Hope it arrives at aliexpress soon and as cheap as most of his boards.
This is probably what you 96fags have been waiting for.

I'm looking to purchase my first keyboard in the form of a James Donkey with gateron browns. My question is, how do I tell what key profile would fit the awful looking gamer caps that it comes with?
Michael Young
Thanks mate!
Daniel Diaz
Forgot to say, it's a James Donkey 619-87key
Zachary Green
will you buy one before Nov. 30th?
Ryder Hill
Any profile will fit, JD uses standard ANSI layout spacing.
Austin Myers
Thank you. Now another question is, are these Dolsh ripoffs worth buying?
i would buy one if they made them in fucking 101 or 104 key ansi. but all these fags who are keyboardlets caused them to not be producing them
Wyatt King
I bought pick related. Please tell me how much of a dumb fuck I am.
Elijah Adams
They are remakes of existing boards, not new creations.
Elijah Young
Meh, not really. OEM profile sucks a big one. If you want a cheap nice keycap, search for a cherry profile dyesub set. The cheapest ones are usually all white with black letters, or black on black. This one is more or less like dolch, but is cherry profile and has nicer legends:
Maybe I can 3d print a bigger one but it won't be transparent.

What is this keyboard-keycap combo? I find it very sexy.

Not with Brown Gateron, however, which is what I would like. :(

what is it with dumb amerifat m'ladys and razer keebs?
Mason Myers
razor products can be bought at most electronic stores in the US. best buy's, walmarts, etc. craigslist always seem to have at least one for sale. they're entry level and easy to get, considering you don't have to order on line. this means kids can save up their lunch money and get clacking!
Nicholas Phillips
Shit man I've been waiting for some chink to send out my taobao 96kee, I'm kind of sketched out at this point, it's been almost 2 months. The official mehkee group buy was delayed as well though so hopefully nothing goes wrong. I still prefer the 96kee design with the acrylic strip over this rama-esque bezel with the entire acrylic underside but this one does look more polished and at the same price :^(

>Budget $100 >Location US >Preferred switch type As long as it isn't noisy I guess. Brown sounds good, but the imgur image makes it out like if it's a meme. >Layout ANSI >Form factor 100% >Backlight Sure, I wouldn't mind them. I could do without though.
