We called it libre software because there is not a word in English that describes what we are trying to say

>We called it libre software because there is not a word in English that describes what we are trying to say

UUUUhhhhhhhh...Liberty????

Liberty is not an adjective you retard.

fpbp

>Calls it Liberty Software
>literally all of America adopts it overnight

Americans (along with everybody else) don't care about their freedoms.

Good point.

Does it mean Free Beer is libre and not free?

>A free product means it has no cost
>Freedom means liberty
Why is the english language so retarded?

Libre and free are two totally different things.

Libre can be directly translated from Spanish to mean free. So a word in English does exist.

Those Venezuelan commies fried his brain.

freedom is what you practice with liberty. you liberate from the rule of other men to practice freedom

Why do they call it a free market when not everything's free?

free enterprise well its taxed and there are regulations and you can't do some illegal things but somehow western capitalism is free market.

but free is and it means the same.
example: you are now a free person.

He says free doesn't work because it can be mistaken by free as in no cost.

there is a word it just has a second meaning. I will never understand why this guy is so obsessed with semantic autism.

freed software

lol other options:
>liberal software
>libertarian software
>software at liberty

Most americans have a very twisted definition of freedom

Why not call it socialist software?> >

> Sup Forums can't into grammar
Why would I expect otherwise..

"liberty (thing)" is a common way to phrase things in the retarded English language.

Alright listen, in the english language Free mean two things.

1) Free beer
2) Free to go

Which mean they where trying to found a word that was able to be different then the word "Free" and mean the same thing. In french you call the same two thing i type before like this.

1) Une bière gratuite.
2) LIBRE de partir.

Libre in french mean free in english and so they found a word that was different and mean the exact same shit.

How come he choosed a Mexican word instead of a Latin or Greek one? I reckon that would've been a better choice.

Libre is liber in Latin. It's basically the same word anyway.

checked

>liberal
>libertarian
fuck off

>the current state of english

more like libtards

Open

Yeah, adopting free software by simply installing for free doesn't sound very liberty. Nothing to bomb or kill first.

Libre is french, rms talks french. In France we talk about ''logiciels libres'' and ''logiciels open-source'' (you can see the code, but not necessarily free)

better yet: Liberated software

>somehow western capitalism is free market
no it's not. Some places are more free than others but there's always tariffs and shit at some point

libre is also spanish, just sayin

We share a lot of words, some with very few differences like "o" or "a"

This is actually not a bad idea. And advertise it like on the redneck radio in GTA.

In danish, free as in freedom is fri, which is almost pronounced the same. Free as in no cost is called gratis.
I don't know why you people started to use free as in no cost.

It's funny in French we say gratis too sometimes for no cost I didn't know

Spanish has the word "Gratis" for free as in beer too, and so do Italians.

Normans

At least we're using our own word latin cuck

Liberated.

Oh ok

it would suggest that this particular software wasn't free in the past

that's why when rms talks about it he talks about it being free as in libre not free as in gratis
