OnePlus: #AlwaysSettle for factory-installed backdoors

OnePlus: #AlwaysSettle for factory-installed backdoors

The app in question is a system app calledEngineerMode that is pre-installed on OnePlus devices like the OnePlus 5, 3T and 3.

Thedeveloper discovered a password-protected backdoor within the app’s code, which he was able to work around to gain root access.

Other users quickly discovered the password to the backdoor was simply "Angela"

This means root access can be achieved using just one command line — giving hackers the potential to cause harm without much work.

Who cares? Google can reset any Android devices whenever they want.

This isn't a chinese botnet backdoor you retard.

>buy chink phone
>get chinked
wow...

This is good, means the device is rootable.
>root it
>add a superuser app
>uninstall the engineer mode
>enjoy your secured device

But fastboot is enabled, root is required easily anyway..

You can easily disable remote block & delete options and Google as a device administrator.

OP bootloader is also backdoored, dipshit

Rooting it disables Android Pay.

>disables Android Pay.
and nothing of value was lost.

What?, you can't have Pay with a rooted device?
Why?

Not a big problem tbqh

I have it installed but I still use contactless cards 99.9% of the time since it's just as fast and less awkward

>what is systemless root
You should leave

Android Pay obfuscates your real card identity from the retailer at POS.

If that meant that the retailer got to charge me X dollars and have the transaction go through without knowing my name or identity, and without being able to recognize my device if I later buy something else from them with it, that'd be a killer feature. Neither Google nor retailers have any incentive to make it do that, though, so it's really just transferring my card number from being handled by a laughably-insecure PoS device to being handled by a laughably-insecure mobile device. Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

>Who cares? Google can reset any Android devices whenever they want.
Google can't do anything to my Android phone, access it, change it, monitor it, or anything else.

>root disables android pay
I have some news for you...

Charge your phone Pajeet.

SHALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>battery low
How is that even an insult?

>Feeling so comfy with my OnePlus X

hahahhahahahahaha, after owning the oneplus X i will never own a chinkphone again. they are absolute dogshit. and fuck the chinese small dicks who think they can spy on us.

SAMSUNG EXONYS MASTER FUCKING RACE.

also go fuckyourself applecucks. kiss your fathers asshole.

>disables Android Pay.

Things only get better.

Was planning to buy a Note 8 but this starts to sound like a much better deal.

wait....dual SIM is considered bad now?

Not NEET enough I suppose?

No, just some autistic fuck.

They were already rootable idiot. They even have a setting to unlock the bootloader

The American assumption is that you're in a third world country if you use dual sim, since their mobile plans are so exploitative they can't fathom anyone paying for more than one line concurrently.

You can use it to gain root acess to your own phone without unlocking the bootloader. That's about it, it apparently can't be aceessed remotely so it can't really be used for malware or anything

So Americans with jobs can't afford a personal telephone number?

US employers providing a phone line is exceptionally rare.

They normally have one personal number and no others.

That is even more weird.

So clients need to call some guy's personal number?
And when he switches jobs or gets fired he keeps getting client calls?

It also makes no sense from a tax p.o.v.
Isn't it much cheaper to supply employees with a company phone and data plan than to pay them higher wages so they can buy them themselves?

>pay data plan or higher wages for phone
Try neither. They have a phone anyway and if they want to work they'll make sure they're available.

>pay them higher wages so they can buy them themselves?
heh...
>tfw I remember I live in burgerland

By that logic why supply employees with health insurance and dental plans?

I have my own company and I make damn sure anything even remotely work related is payed for by the company and deducted instead of paying income taxes plus VAT and not being able to deduct it.

>why supply employees with health insurance and dental plans
They typically don't...

OK, I was talking about proper jobs, not McJobs.

Even white collar burgers normally don't, unless the company needed it as a bargaining chip to attract workers, which they typically don't, or are forced by the industry. Basically blue collar warehouse and mill workers, if anyone.

Anybody got lineageOS on his OnePlus 3? Is it usable? I'd use lineage.microg.org/, everything better than OxygenOS

>Isn't it much cheaper to supply employees with a company phone and data plan than to pay them higher wages so they can buy themselves?

Even mcdonalds workers and the welfare queens already have phones, wtf are you even talking about? An overwhelming majority of companies give their employees a paycheck and that's it.

>Not watching his backstory

So how can I do this? The only thing stopping me from rooting my phone was losing my data and backing up isn't an option at the moment. I'm assuming someone will release a tool to do it but I'd like to know how to do it manually.

Wow. A sensational headline that is wrong. This """backdoor""" requires physical access to the device and apps can't get root using it unless you use it to install magisk or super su. Of course Sup Forums will not bother to read into it and just spout memes. I can't wait for this board to die.

>s-sure it's a backdoor, but it's not THAT kind of backdoor, it's just something the corporation put in there with an incredibly weak password for the benefit of me the User(TM)!
this is why smartphone cucks need to be banned from Sup Forums

I worked for faceless multinational in a shitty street hire job and they still offered insurance and dental. Stop working at shitty jobs.

engineer mode activates full control over a phone

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT

user, you're supposed to run LOS on your Oneplus. Why the fuck would you buy one of the most dev friendly devices otherwise?

what? his life/vids is literally about nothing.

THIS IS OXYGENOS ONLY DAMN

She must love being covered in jews

Israeli girls are QT as fuck.
That said I still would not cut my dick for them.

>root access can be achieved using just one command line
cool so i just put my own lineageshit on it and be done with it?

You don't need root for that.
