Why do normies hate enterprise-grade PCs?

Why do normies hate enterprise-grade PCs?

Every time someone asks me to recommend them a computer, I just point to a chinkpad or a latitude or elitebook. But once they see the price they flinch, despite asking for something that's high quality and reliable.

Guaranteed if you bought this brand new, it will last you 4 years, hands down. It already comes with a 3-year warranty standard.

>b-but user, which brand makes the most reliable PC!

None of them. They all put the cheapest garbage into their computers, including Apple. Desktops are also more reliable than laptops. But no, you want a laptop because you might bring it with you somewhere, once a month.

Building a PC is also an option, but now I just recommend pre-builds because they come with warranties so some schmuck can come over and fix it for you and not me.

You expect people to be experts on things they don't even understand?

They only understand looks. If its not "stylish" aka rounded eges, led lights, bright colors, etc, they don't care about it.

>tfw snagged an M92P with i7-3770 for $150
>upgraded ram
>added SSDs
>PSU
>GPU

>$400 and performs as well as new $1000 systems

My m91p shit the bed and I upgraded to a M92p motherboard for $20. I like the format but the PCI 1x slot being right next to the PCI 16x is annoying. I have to run a 1x riser to reach the slot when my GPU is installed. My wifi card is just dangling in the case with the antenna poking out. I wrapped it in a layer of electrical so nothing shorts out.
It supports Qubes right out of the box as well.

>trying to roleplay as tech literate while unironically buying overpriced enterprise equipment brand new
>b-but muh warranty
back to plebbit or whatever shit general you migrated to from there

a enterprise desktop is fine for a normie because they are built to last. and you can get some cheap on ebay from bankrupt companies.
The real pain in the ass comes when some of the pieces you can only get from the OEM, like those PSU's that come with custom connectors.
Also some of the motherbaords are shitty. But they are a very good option for a normie that will only do some fagbooking and watching youtube

They're asking you because they're too cheap to buy Apple and you're recommending something that costs nearly as much.

i unironically just tell people to buy the one you like cuz they are all the same trash

It makes sense to lease computers from HP or Dell if you're a small business owner. Much easier to deduct taxes that way, because you can deduct an even sum monthly.

That's not how taxes work, sweetie. You can depreciate the computers over three years if you buy them. Companies lease the computers so they don't have to pay a tech support guy to fix them if they mess up.

nice adv they don't deserve you
got one of what you recommend but refurbished
cheep and good no regrets

this. they end up buying what they like anyway and usually don't care about botnet even if it's in their face, kinda with i could make a profit from those dubmfucks

>i5 3570
>8gb ram
>120 gb ssd
>dual DP out + dvi + vga, USB 3, all the jizz
>Win 10 Pro preinstalled and activated
>2 low profile slots empty for a qt little gpu if needed
>180€
small optiplexies are so nice, my friend whom I recommended buying this thing is happy af

pic related, almost as good looking as IBM

I've been considering getting one of these for a poorfag gamestation but the low watt custom cable PSU shit means I cant really put in a 3-4 year old midrange GPU.

I've got a 1050ti in my M92p. Idk what you consider midrange though. You can always swap out the PSU.

these things SUCK, DoA HDDs because of the floods in asia

>using an HDD
>2017

I'm planning on a gtx 670. Is it only dell that does the PSU fuckery? M92 sounds thinkcentre.
>not buying a fresh, larger ssd/HDD for cheap prebuilts.

The PSU that comes with the M92p is only 200 watts, so you might have to upgrade it. When I did the mobo swap on it, I didn't notice any unusual cables. What kind of PSU problems have you heard?

Dells use a non standard 24 pin or they did before.

Oh yeah, I know exactly what you mean. The M92p uses a nonstandard 14 pin PSU. They sell cables to convert from a standard 24 pin to the 14 pin connector though. I just picked one up for 5 dollars on Amazon.

isn't there a limit on what kind of motherboard you can place in them and the space for newer gpus

Depends completely on which model and form factor you buy.

>Guaranteed if you bought this brand new, it will last you 4 years
Given enterprise-grade prices, that's really, really unimpressive. Even if you buy the cheapest piece of shit you can find with required specs, it'll almost certainly last that long.

well say i get the one in OP

This.Bought an old HP Compaq with an e6550 for my uncle for 30$.
Most people think they have to shill out tones of money for what is basically a E-machine.

You can fit a full length GPU in it. Idk about the motherboard. It should have standard mounting points though.

>because you might bring it with you somewhere, once a month
ok you know' not being crushed by the weighnt of my computer when I put it on my lap

Apparently the 9020 doesn't use standard ATX mounting points, so you'd be limited to that motherboard.

Its not a bad mobo though, it's slotted for an LGA1150 processor, so you could upgrade the processor easily. The other problem you run into with mobo swaps on these is non standard port holes.

well there you go

Meh, it's a small tradeoff. All you'd need is a GPU and a few sticks if ram to make it a pretty comfy computer.

>Get 3020 for free
>Drop in an SSD
>Hack it up a bit and drop a 1050ti in
Never once had a problem with the PSU and it's only at 225w

I did this when I first started building, company I worked for got contracted by the IT company for Qdoba and I swapped over 4 servers in our area so I snagged one that had an old E7XXX C2D and swapped it for a Q9550
Only problem with the model was it used a BTX proprietary motherboard and I couldn't get Windows to load on it for shit, this was also before I knew what MS Toolkit was as well

whats life like in that fantasy world of yours?

He probably bought local user.

we got over 500 of these at work, not one dead hdd, they are running since over a year.

this gal/guy/rugged pony gets it

My preferred gender is: Rare T¡ger.

There's no reason to be upset.

Had to use this for my M92p but it works.

>no LEDs on the Lenovo

DROPPED

>OP thinks 4 years is a long time for a computer to last
FFS

How can it go fast without LEDs???

>Why do normies hate enterprise-grade PCs?
Because I'm used to building computers myself and I don't like pre-builds in general and specially not "enterprise-grade" and specially not Dell.

Dell has a history of making "special" PSUs with wires crossed and normal-looking plugs. The result is that if you put a Dell PSU on a normal motherboard it fries and the same goes if you try a normal PSU on a Dell motherboard. For someone who's used to mixing parts from different systems.. that kind of crap just puts everything from Dell in the complete shit category.

I don't know if they still do this, btw. I know they did some years ago.

It'll take a hit, but she'll be right until she isn't then it's totally fucked mate

This is what it's all about Sup Forums

In terms of normies, enterprise grade PCs just don't look stylish to them at all which is a big thing for them for some reason. Can't talk reliability to them as the'll toss the PC in a few years anyway because they fucked up Windows and think the whole PCs dead

Wow, used hardware is cheaper than new hardware. News at 11. You probably could have gotten something with a proper case/motherboard for the same price or slightly more

Who the hell cares if its not a proper case/motherboard? You get a nice i7 3770 system for $400 that would be hard to do with separate used parts

That's new basic ryzen 3 1200 system tier in price user.

What GPU tho

the reason for glossy screens is because they sell better: when the normies walks into office depot they are drawn to the shiny object, same as a shark. Those are the ones with the shitty AMD processors, 1366x768 screens and the bloatware

Nah you aint making a ryzen 3 1200 system with a 1060 for $400

You'd expect them to take advice from someone that understands it a whole lot more

I seem to have a shit memory. This was in the 400s the last time I saw it.
And no current gen GPU is really a given, especially with miner pricing still in effect.

They want you to be able to pick one from the selection Wal-Mart has to offer in the range of $250-500.

They get told that Apple is a ripoff so they think expensive computers are a ripoff. They don't understand TN vs IPS, HDD vs SSD vs NVMe, that a 14" screen can either be 786p or 4K, and they can't tell what generation of i-series chip the computer has.

Imho Dell wins the looks here. I love Thinkpads but Lelnovos desktop line doesn't look as good as Dells.

There are a lot of M92p's and M93p's for sale on CL here (Dallas/Fort Worth) but they're all that shitty little SFF case. I can never find the full tower so I can actually put a decent power supply in it.

It had a brand new 120gb samsung ssd with a clean, bloat-free Win 10 Pro preinstalled.
Also 250 Watt 80+ Gold PSU which should help if my friend decies to stick a 1050Ti in there.

I got one for my boss awhile back and he likes how small it is, all he does all day is use Outlook and not much else.

>But no, you want a laptop because you might bring it with you somewhere, once a month.
My parents insist on this despite everything. Sigh.

I would've thought that phones and tablets would fill this void for the less tech savvy.

shiggy

Sharks like shiny?

I loved my T3500. Stronk steel. You could stand on the door. Made it really easy to change lightbulbs.

Because they remind them of the PCs at their office.

No, I do however expect people to listen to the advice given to them by experts after having asked for the advice in the first place. There have been multiple times where someone has asked my advice when buying new tech, completely ignored it, bought something I explicitly warned them about because it was $50 cheaper, and then come back complaining to me when their shit doesn't do what they want it to do or it gets broken after 2 weeks.

Normies don't use PCs anymore. I used to have a thriving side-job doing all manner of home pc building, repair, theater setups, router magic, etc. etc. Nowadays the normie only wants his phone or tablet screen fixed and which smart tv or tv box to purchase. Everything the normie once did on his pc is now done on mobile applications or in the mobile browser.

Good point

Post more "go away, nothing special to look at" case designs.

Pic related, one of my favourites, Supermicro sc731 medium tower.

This. If I worked in any industry besides software, I would not bother with a PC at home.

>he doesn't make shit computers for normies and then rice them up with see through cases and a bunch of fancy LED lights to make the computer go faster and charge a lot of money for it

>doing all that work just to scam a normie

No thanks. I'll stick to stealing ram.

Got the SC733 here. Still haven't moved my computer to this case, but I still love it. Surprised by how quiet the 80mm fans in the PSU is. Got the case that came with the nicer 650W PSU.

Shit, that's what I'm about to do once I put the money together. There's 2nd and 3rd gen i3 and i5 Dell's on Newegg for $150 or so and I can slap a GT710 in it for $40, add extra RAM, and maybe a larger HDD and might barely be at $300-$325 and have something better to work with than the decrepit Gateway Athlon X2 powered all-in-one I was complaining about in PCBG some weeks ago.

>Newegg

wut? Just get one on eBay. Finding a deal is half of the fun.

>ebay
>dat $79 machine with no hard drive or RAM 'cause someone said all teh compaineys secretes is there
>dat $50 shipping too.

nah b, I'll just get it from Newegg.

I've never had a computer ship without RAM. Only a few had not had hard drives. I don't know why you would want to install onto a used hdd anyway. Newegg gets their refurbs from the same suppliers, you're just paying a convenience charge for Newegg to put it in pretty packaging.

because "enterprise-grade" is a professional term and the average consumer just wants to go to a toy store

>an autistic trying to conprehend why a normie wouldnt want a thinkpad

Is it really so hard for people like you to understand this?

Jesus you people really are defective

>you get what you pay for
nobody believe this anymore, its all about super sweet midweek dealathons on newegg or whatever the fuck

I have an Optiplex 990

Its ok

i5 2500
8gb
1tb HDD

Upgraded with
620w Bronze modular psu
1050ti
240gb SSD Samsung Evo

Its ok... got it for super cheap, next pc fully custom.

Get out
