I doubt I'll run out of sata ports if I’m using 4TB drives. If I ever manage that then I'll just have to give up. And while you can't actually add disks to an existing RAIDZ array, you can 'JBOD' them into one pool. So I'd probably just end up adding 4-disk RAIDZ arrays until the end of time. I don’t actually know much about how ZFS works, though. So I could just be wrong about all of this.

Go for the 8TB Archive HDD's from Seagate. I have currently 28 of them and none has ever failed for me. they are pretty cheap also compared to their size. Allthough they are due to the SMR-Technology not raid compatible.

Summertime next year (as planned) Seagate will release their upfollowing model of the Archive series with astonishing 16 TB. I will buy them the very day they get released.

But then I need to spend £400 minimum on a single expansion. Such is life when you routinely download 500GB of porn just because you can, I suppose.

I almost never have files that are not downloadable anymore with share online. Happens like 2 times a year or so.
Uploaded is like 50% not available anymore after just 2 weeks. That's why some major DDL sites kicked Uploaded from their DDL list.
Had premiums on both and know what i'm talking about.
