Switched to Devuan! (muh freedums restored)

After systemd removed core components on Krita that it deemed "unnecessary" I just about had it.

>new distro time

Wanted a distro that advertised not using systemd as one of it's features so no PCLinuxOS as it could change any time. (also RPM is a bit slow)

Gentoo is out of the picture since it's only good as a server OS
>source based package management

Void's package manager just looked too much of a clusterfuck to use.
>also we don't need another fucking independent distro to make the community even more divided of easy to install software

So I there was really only one option left...Devuan! Debian was my first Linux distro and I've used Debian based distros off and on over the years and they just werk (aside from systemd)

Can't complain one bit. Configured Mate to my liking, installed Krita, loaded important files off flash drive ( ;-) ), installed eclipse and I'm perfectly happy.

Devuan is comfy but a bit conservative because it's still on Jessie. I currently have it installed on my NAS and desktop. No complaints, it just werks.

Another nice NSA/systemd-less distro is antiX. It's awesome for liveusb and I also have it installed on an old netbook. It's kernel is much newer than Devuan, so if you lack hardware support antiX is worth a try.

I've tried antiX and have REALLY liked it...I completely forgot about it! Installation on my speedy PC is under an hour so I'm going to go ahead and dualboot it with Devuan and see if I like it better

UPDATE: wow, that was fast

Yeah, antiX seems great but is quirky when it comes to GTK and Qt applications. (inconsistency in theming mainly)

I think I'll just switch my Devuan install to testing for more up to date stuff

Im using Void and love it, what exactly didn't you like?

>devuan
>sounds good
>tried it
>iso wouldnt fit on 16gb stick

someone explain this shit naow !

Dude, how the fuck did you mess this up?
The desktop live version is a bit over 800MB. The netinstaller is only a bit over 200MB. Even the whole DVD with EVERYTHING is "only" 4GB.

>systemd removed core components on Krita
say what?

The torrent includes ISOs for all architectures and with all variants. You just pick the one you want.

It's a dead project Jim. They're still based on current debian oldstable. I've been subscribed to their news mailing list since the release and I havent' received a single mail so far.

Proofs?

never happened. systemd FUD #1349

**Linux is out of the picture since it's only good as a server OS**

Fixed that for you.

systemd is free software

OP is retarded

no idea about krita. but systemd broke the driver support for all or almost all wacom devices in every distro.

they appear as a joystick and the solutions to that were "patched"
out in some systemd update shit for the rules.d folder whatever.

I just wanted to draw out of the box.

>no PowerPC support
dropped

For when normal linux autism just ain't enough

Literally won't install on my desktop

Doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

xbps-install -S package_name #install package
xbps-remove -R package_name #remove package
xbps-install -Su #update system

What is hard, fucking brainlet ?
The only downside is the shitty syntax longer than pacman's syntax but you can easily create an alias for that.

>It is available for the Intel x86®, ARM® and MIPS® processor architectures
>have a i5 x64 with 16gb ram
Droped.

>Currently there are over 7000 optimized binary packages for the x86, x86_64, ARMv6, ARMv7 architectures
How can you be this much of a brainlet?

So why did not they put that information on top of their site.

It's common sense that a general purpose operating system support x86_64 in 2017.

>xbps
I prefer dpkg.

Fuck off p*ttering

It does suck, but from a technical point of view. The "botnet" claims are retarded.

>x64
We have a winbabby here.
x64 is pure fiction that Microsoft uses in order to not confuse the retards that use their products.

The real name of the architecture is either x86_64 or AMD64, those being the official name and the original name of the arch, respectively.

>switches to a drm
>freedoms restored

I like dpkg as well but I remember xbps being quite fast.

gotta wonder why Slackware is never in these discussions.

Too pure for nu/g/ Visigoths.
It's for the better, really.

They should make a logo contest.

Seems like arch fixed it as new wacom and systemd updates arrived. Obviously debian maintainers are super retarded at configuring systemd.

While that's true, I don't think init should break hardware.
