Anybody bought anything on Swappa.com? Can they be trusted?

Second for Meizu is the new Xiaomi because they still have the 3.5mm port.

Is there any reason not to get the Razer phone?

I'm not memeing when I ask this, but what advantages does owning a phone with a good CPU have over one that doesn't. What tasks am I performing that require all that power?

What 's a goos phone to learn about rooting and custom roms without breaking the bank?

if you can find a cheap galaxy S3, that's a pretty cool phone for it, otherwise i've no idea

Note 8 or Pixel 2

Do you have a fetish for stock pure Android and absolutely feel the physical need to have an updated version of Android as soon as it rolls out for the next years to come, or you prefer the insane visual experience of oversaturated colors in a barely usable form factor knowing you will actually make a use of an outdated device, the stylus, the demise of which signed the passage from the era of palmare to the era of smartphones?

In the first case get a Pixel 2, in the second case get a Note 8.

Pixel 2 it is I guess. Stylus seemed a bit fun.

Lol clearly a Google Shill.

The Note8 display destroys the pixel 2. It's over saturated by default but can be FULLY customised or simply use the preset basic color mode for better color accuracy.

Use both in store. If you think you'll use the Spen it's fantastic and by far the ONLY good stylus available in a phone.

No genius found at the apple genius bar

Are there any special secrets to keeping battery life healthy? For example, I was told once that using a phone while charging it can hurt the battery life. No idea if this is true or not.

A Moto G 1st or 2nd gen seems right up your alley. Probably cheap as fuck 2nd hand right now, easy to unlock the bootloader and fuckloads of support online, including guides and custom ROMs.

>only good things to say about the pixel
>only shit things to say about samsung

well glad we got an unbiased opinion here.

MKBHD thinks the Pixel 2 and Note8 are android smartphones of the year. If you prefer vanilla android get the Pixel 2, but the Note8 has better hardware, pretty much every review will tell you this is true. The Note8 is simply the best hardware you can buy in an android phone currently. BUT if you hate touchwiz with a passion (as you seem to do) then obviously it isn't gonna be the phone for you.

HOWEVER, most people use samsung for a reason, it's not nearly what it was even 2 years ago, but comparing it to touchwiz from even further back is just laughable, it's nothing like it was. That being said, yes, vanilla android IS going to be a bit smoother. But you wont have any of the extra software stuff like samsung has with their integrated app ecosystem, or any of the Spen stuff.

Both are great phones.

>a Google Shill
And you're a Samsung shill. My intention was to mock both choices. The Pixel 2 is a piece of junk that only those that are too autistic to live with non-stock Android, the Note 8 is a (beautiful) brick with a gimmicky pen in the butt that very few people will make the full use out of it. Both are overpriced as fuck. You came here instead accusing me of shilling, defending Samsung like it was your mother, and saying positive things about it, which is suspicious to say the least.

Beware user of the pajeets.

iPhone 7 cuck here.

I'm done with apple and thinking of moving to the Huawei mate 10 lite. I breifly had the note 7 before the battery shit and did like it alot but after I sent it back I went straight back to apple like the fool I was.

I know its not the best stats but for £300 and a 5.9" screen in a body less than the size of the iphone 7 plus I think it looks great. Plus the battery is way bigger than what I'm used to.

Am I making a mistake here with Huawei or even this phone? Thoughts?

>I breifly had the note 7 before the battery shit and did like it alot but after I sent it back I went straight back to apple like the fool I was.
Why not the Note8 then?

The problem is you called the Samsung out dated device and all you mentioned for the Pixel 2 was the software.

Which considering they have similar hardware, is just kinda seemingly biased. If the Note8 is outdated so is the Pixel 2. Hence the bias.

The cost, can't afford the note 8 right now but I wan't right of this iphone due to the battery being fucked after ios11 and apple jewery. I can recycle my iPhone 7 and get enough back to but the mate 10 with some change for a pizza or something so seems like a good deal

Apple bar employees are literally fucking dumb women following a script and hipsters.

Fair enough, the Mate 10 lite seems solid enough for the price. I haven't had a Huawei in a few years though.

Maybe I had to push more for the fact that the only differentiating factor for the Pixel 2 is the software, but again: there are a shitload of phones with the same hardware that are cheaper and probably built better, but this craze for the purest android possible that will give you the smoothestâ„¢ UI ever is ridiculous in a day and age where even midrange phones are perfectly able to be more than adequate daily drivers, regardless of the software.
I didn't intend to call the Note 8 outdated: the pen is. Sure, for some it might come in handy, and sure the Note 8 is probably the best palmare being produced nowadays, but unless you absolutely need it (ie you know you want and need a palmare, which is unlikely) its main selling point falls: again there are almost identical devices (eg S8+) that are cheaper and come with better ergonomics while losing nothing but the stylus and the markup.

For me they're both retarded choices. That was my point.

After using shitty software on phones with good hardware, I finally realize that the technical specs of a phone don't matter as much as how shitty the software is.

Chink shit is shit.

I was going to buy the Razer phone for 750 euro, but since most reviewers say it's a piece of shit om looking for something else..
I want the pixel 2, but spending 800 euro for a phone just feels wrong desu.
Is the Nokia 8 a good alternative?
I want near stock Android and a good camera.
Im also considering the op5t.

>Please halp

Hence the A1.

Having a good CPU has its advantages even if you aren't doing anything intensive, such as gaming. The phone with a stronger CPU will perform more fluidly, with less lag and stutter, and loading times for apps and webpages will be faster. Though even a modern midrange SoC such as a Snapdragon 625 is powerful enough to offer performance that a majority of users would consider "good enough"

>can't flash a simple custom ROM onto his chinkphone

Upgrading from a Galaxy S5, on Cricket in US.
Any reason I shouldn't buy an unlocked LG G5 (RS988)?

I think I've narrowed down to just this because I want an unlocked bootloader, sdcard slot, and removable battery. I plan to play around a lot with custom ROMs. It's slightly larger than I want, but I think I can deal with that.

I was also looking at the Moto G5 which seems to have all those requirements, but for coming out a year later than the Moto G5 the specs look far inferior across the board.

Are there any other models I should be considering?

Heat is bad for the health of a battery, and it's pretty common for phones to get quite hot if they're being used by charging, so in that sense yes, it's true. Whether it's damaging enough to be worth it to try to actively avoid doing is another story. Guess it depends on how long you're intending to keep your phone.

Is getting a pixel for stock android worth it?
I'm stuck between the pixel 2 and the galaxy s8.

If you NEED stock android in your life. Yea.

If you're already used to skinned android then meh.

OP5T launch is today, I'd wait for some reviews on that before deciding. Nokia 8 is a good choice, I'd also look at the Sony phones, they're very close to stock. Previous gen Pixels might also be worth a consideration if you feel the current gen ones are too expensive.

If charge your battery up to 70-80% only, it will significantly reduce the amount of charge cycles the battery counts thus prolonging the lifespan of your battery. Constantly draining to battery from 0 and then charging it to 100% will waste charge cycles much faster.

Did Sup Forums block ipv6 posting from mobile phones? I get pic related when trying to post from my new Galaxy device on AT&T. Newer AT&T devices use ipv6 by default. I have an older model phone which is also on AT&T and uses an ipv4 address and can post on Sup Forums just fine.

Is there any way to get android phones to use an ipv4 address instead of ipv6?

Sup Forums just randomly range bans AT&T mobile IPs because they are mostly used for shitposting on Sup Forums and other popular boards. If you change your IP enough then eventually you'll get a unbanned range.

I'm blocked on AT&T at work cause some faggot keeps posting CP from that cell tower IP range.

At home AT&T works fine for Sup Forums.

Just depends which IP range you're connecting with.

Pixel 2 has an OLED screen, and I remember the first version of the PS Vita had burn in issues. If the Pixel has this problem how can it be avoided? Also, a couple people mention extra software in the Samsung, can this be turned off if I find it unsatisfactory? I don't like background processes I don't benefit from on in the background slowing my phone down.

>Also, a couple people mention extra software in the Samsung, can this be turned off if I find it unsatisfactory?
package disabler lets you

>Pixel 2 has an OLED screen, and I remember the first version of the PS Vita had burn in issues
Don't leave your screen on full brightness with static UI elements.

If you use your phone as your GPS, make sure it's positioned somewhere that is going to be visible without needing 100% brightness.

Otherwise you WILL get burn in eventually.

Auto brightness these days tends to be decent and will make sure you don't have any severe burn in, at least in the first year or two of owning the device.

Was the pixel 2 screen made by LG

Pixel 2 XL was, Pixel 2 is samsung.

The XL screen is shit.

Yes

Burn in happens to all OLED but can be avoided by not leaving static elements on the screen for too long. Screensavers or less screen on time helps a lot.

Does ANYBODY seriously use a fucking screensaver on their phone?

I do. If phone stays on charger and it idles for 5 mins while screen on then it kicks into screensaver mode. It's pretty much essential if you use GPS in your car on a OLED phone.

How is the doogee mix

I know it's a thing. My Galaxy S5 has that option. I just seriously never saw a point.
If you have a phone that needs a screensaver to prevent burn-in, you need a better phone because that is idiotic.

Of course you don't need the screensaver but it helps. Like if I fall asleep watching YouTube on my phone I know I won't get accidental burn in of some youtube profiles face on the video because the screensaver will kick in.

Yeah, the non-plus moto is surprisingly shit. I find it funny that the 3 notable phones with removable batteries are the G5 G5 and S5, despite being 3 different generations and mfrs. The only thing you left out is the V10/20/30 line, which also have unlocked models. They're LG's way of keeping the removable battery by putting it in their phablet models instead.

no removable battery on the V30

>phablet

More like FAGleg, amirite?
I don't want my phone to be longer than my dick.

Well that does it. Fuck LG, Fuck smartphones, Fuck the world. I'm gonna go live in a cave with my battlestation.

....6 inches is bigger???

You know what they say, ladies love a man who's comfortable using a V30.

By about 4 in...whoa, I almost walked right into that one!

Just get the V20 then. All of the benefits of the V series with a removable battery

Can an iPhone play FLAC? What is the sound quality like overall? I was considering the iPhone SE 128GB for $350. This is as an Android user since forever.

How about decent file management and the ability to connect to a server? iPhone can do that as well?

The point is they were the last holdout. We're going to be stuck using dinosaurs until phones get some crystal battery future shit that doesn't go to hell years before the rest of the device.

Yea I know it fucking sucks. But how else are the companies going to get you to buy a new phone every year or 2?

That's the world we live in now. Embrace it and be happy or suffer for the rest of your life. Not even smartphones without actual IP68 certification and metal back like the OP allow to remove the battery.

It's over, user.
It's over.

I'm 90% sure of buying Apple AirPods. Will I regret this? It apparently has great reviews.

>Marketing this hard

Id assume patching and support is shit considering it's a new venture for them. Give it a generation for them to get the bugs out

I've bought three phones from Swappa. No problems, unless you count the time a dude sold me a phone with a screen that didn't fucking work: messaged him, he fully refunded me and told me to just keep it.

Meh. That sounds at least as good as my experience with ebay. I notice most of the sellers don't have any feedback. Should that concern me?

Nature of the beast. Most sellers haven't sold anything there before because they're just random people who want to sell their phone.

It shouldn't greatly concern you, but maybe don't buy a high-end phone from someone with no feedback unless you can afford to lose that money.

This
EXCEPT
make sure you don't get a Verizon branded s3 that's been fully updated (4.2 i think). They pushed out a fix for the root exploit that was developed, so the best you can do is side load specific roms. I needed root to run my s3 on a different network, and it was a hilariously rough process and in the end if you boot it while it's plugged in you get a boot loop.

Fuck Samsung right in the dickhole.
I'll never buy another of their phones.

So they don't have any way of keeping dicks from posting fake listings? I'm just trying to figure out if this is more like ebay or craigslist. Their comparison page does a pretty shit job really explaining it, and if the 0 feedback are all 50% scams, that has a pretty big impact how good most of those deals look. Did the dudes you bought from have a lot of feedback? Thanks btw

I moved Galaxy to Nexus and it really is a big benefit. Being on the beta release cycle means you get new features before other people, not months and months after

Favorite so far is the auto picture in picture for maps and web players 8-8.1 brought. I know it's been released through other manufacturers at this point but I had it for a couple months before anyone else i talk to

Xiaomi phones are now available on the Spanish Amazon site amazon.es, thought this was worth mentioning here as they also ship to most other European countries. So if you're interested in getting a Xiaomi phone with a proper warranty and no import fees then this is an option worth considering.

thesolutionshop.global is another site worth checking out, they offer tax-free shipping and 2 year warranty on all phones.

It hasn't developed a bad reputation like craigslist (i.e., getting raped in an alley). It's more like eBay that the chinks haven't gotten ahold of yet.
Two of the people I bought from had no feedback: it is a risk, but I was only spending a couple hundred.

If you're that concerned, it will limit your choices, but there are some professional resellers that do accumulate good feedback. You could limit yourself to them. The downside is they're higher volume so are much less likely to be able to answer questions about the phone the way the owner would be able to. That might not matter to you.

Does changing the battery on a battery locked phone ruin the water resistence?

depends on the phone but for most of them yeah. if you were to replace the battery on a note 8 yourself then most likely you would ruin the adhesive sealing.

Depends on the model. Expect to have to tear out tape seals at the very least, and expect to have to unplug tiny cords and remove the fucking motherboard. They didn't just seal the case, they went FAR out of their way to make sure changing the battery is a pain in the ass.

For that, they deserve to never sell another phone. You guys aren't taking this seriously enough. Fuck them.

vocaroo.com/i/s0q9qzTJdx28

why is google so shit?

Man, i wanted and oled and fast charging, but nothing like that exists with a replacable battery, guess i'll keep using my lg g3 for the rest of my life, galaxy note 4 is too big for me

The S6 battery is not labeled as replacable but it's not to hard to replace it unlike these latest phones. It also has amoled and fast charging.

>Talking like a literal Pajeet

You are peaking my interest, but i just got some good cheap g3 parts from a guy selling his fried mobo phone, so I guess there's no rush, i can just swap batteries on the go

Yeah, not super concerned, it's just on ebay I assume anything less than 300 feedback at 99% is high risk, and less than 10 feedback almost a guaranteed scam. I remember when a dude I know joined ebay, immediately tried to offload a $2000 gaming laptop, and then figured no one wanted gaming laptops.
>mysides.jpg

I guess if somebody does decide to be a fuck I can always dispute it with paypal.

Like I said, depends on the model. Google battery removal to see how difficult it is for the model you want.

By replaceable, I mean you can pop off the cover and swap in a new battery when it's almost dead. As far as I'm concerned, it needs to be do-able in the field without tools.

Any of the LeEco devices, specifically the LeMax 2 and the LePro 3

Exactly.
Minimize risk by avoiding latest-gen phones, and by not spending what you can't afford to lose. In reality, the risk is small. Most people actually do just want to sell their last phone to pay for their upgrade.

>Charging your phone during the night

You can get the V20, it's pretty nice if you don't mind a larger phone. Fuck the V30 though. Screen is the worst. You'd think a tv maker would nail the OLED thing, but every time LG tries they fail spectacularly.

Unless they make a larger battery you can fit in there, I'd still call it a no go. The fact that it's worse than the S5 is pretty sad.

yeah the s6 battery is not replaceable without some basic tools, what a shame.

imagine in the next 5 years all these iphone's in the trash with still working hardware but their battery is dead or not replacable.

I would litterally spend 500+ right now on a phone that had
>micro sd slot
>headphone jack
>fast charging
>oled screen
>400+ ppi
>waterproof
>SWAPABLE BATTERY
Am I missing anything for a perfect phone device, /spg/?

You can fit a 3600mAh S7 edhe battery into the S6 almost doubling screen on time. I done it myself. But it's not easily replaceable like say the S5 where you just pop off the back with your fingernail.

must have a IR blaster

You're missing easily unlockable bootloader and easily rootable.

>iPhone
>decent file management
>ability to connect to a server
HAHAHAHAHA
If you jailbreak it, then it might be possible to do both.

stock adroid and a very good camera and i would pay 700

It's also rally dangerous because the battery is bigger.

not really, they are identical in form factor. also if you ever took apart a S6 you would know the battery compartment is bigger than the stock battery so it gives the newer battery room to expand.

>Razer

thank me later.

Guys I bought a redmi note 4 and I'm loving it and stuff. I wanna root it though, and when I mentioned it earlier in /csg/ an user told me to use magisk (I think it was called that) and not any other root method since it was infinitely better. I wanna know if that really is the case and if I should go for it. I'm still on miui, since I was told it was the best optimization for xiaomi devices compared to pajeetOS, so if I were to root with magisk, should I use that xiaomi tool to put TWRP (don't have it yet) on the phone and then flash the magisk zip?

Thoughts on the Sony Xperia?

which one?

Threadly reminder the OP5T is being presented right now in live stream.
