If you want my honest opinion I am for net neutrality because I don't want to pay more just to visit a site like Sup Forums or have to deal with ISP's throttling my internet left, right and center.

Why would anyone who isn't getting money from big companies be against it?

That's what I was thinking.

I had no problems with the internet before net neutrality so it doesnt really make a difference to me, but seeing all these big companies like google and mozilla and shit shill so actively for it makes me kinda happy that its going away

The internet was just fine for 20 years before net neutrality. Government regulation screws with it.

Net neutrality was the status quo for decades. It's only recently that ISPs figured they could abuse their monopoly positions to give a competitive edge to their own services or extort Netflix. Google and Mozilla aren't ISPs, so they don't benefit from these actions. That's why they shill for NN. It's good for consumers too, because equal treatment of all internet services by ISPs is good for competition.

Would you prefer Comcast regulations?

If FCC dismantles it, and you get internet from Verizon, they may force you to use YAHOO as your search engine (because they own it), but PAY to use GOOGLE.

>before net neutrality

Like the ones that were in place five years ago? Oh, wait. There weren't any.

Net Neutrality was enacted in 2015

>discussing things you don't even understand
wew

what is net neutrality anyway?

...

the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favouring or blocking particular products or websites.

"Net Neutrality" means corporations can't pay to manipulate how you use the internet (PORN).
If this goes away, not only will all your data (PORN HABITS) be scrutinized by telecom companies, they can decide how fast your internet works on certain websites (YOUR PORN WON'T LOAD).

my porn worked fine in 2014 though

>Not downloading porn and opposing net neutrality for a profit
Are you retarded?

>campus commie "progressive" faggots hate money because they know they don't have any value or skills as individuals to amass it because they are worthless trash
>Internet companies force their favorite propaganda sites into packages with additional costs which anyone can afford as chump change, yet which is destructive to the wallet of the average brownie and leftist
>campus commie faggots can't afford it
>they REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE at the white people to vote for them to stay on the Internet
>the same white people they insult on a daily basis

HAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHA
The sooner NN is repealed the better.

>not only will all your data (PORN HABITS) be scrutinized by telecom companies
ISP's can't avoid not knowing your porn habits given the content being rolled back to you goes through them as the last step, you stupid illiterate fuck. It's been as such since the commercial Internet was invented.

So you want the ISP's to join the ranks of scumbags like Facebook and Google? Because that's what will happen. It's a power play and we're caught in the middle, with no "lesser-evils" to trust. Always vote in favor of the common man, user. There's no free lunches for us, and the suits like to keep it that way.

It won't in 2018

I'm against it because George Soros is for it.

why not? what would happen in three or four years that would make them all of a sudden care about the kind of porn i watch. Are ISPs also kink shamers?

And now they might want to do something about it.

They won't because the only people who watch more porn than you are precisely the poor sods who have to observe what millions of faggots like yourself, each with additionally worse fetishes than the last one, consumes.

Realise how easy it is to fool you and charge you more money. Or just block you altogether.

I doubt that will stop them from charging you.

It's chump change to me.
Gender studies dumbfucks and art students though? I wouldn't mind seeing them barred from a part of the Internet, if not it as a whole.

The American political landscape has essentially become a spectacle reminiscent of the worst elements of team sports and reality television. Fans are only interested in winning, so they invent all sorts of double standards and engage in endless equivocations to ignore the flaws in their side and the good in the other side.

>mfw retards on Sup Forums want it repealed
i can only hope that Sup Forums is immediately throttled the moment it is repealed, to show those retards what they've done

imagine being so braindead that anything trump supports, you must automatically support as well and then you retard-tier rationalizations like this

I don't give a rats ass about the orange teletubie.
What I do care about is seeing poorfaggot brownies and lefties such as yourself, being affected by something that doesn't affect people who have actual jobs and do proper work.

You are garbage who is mad for one reason and one reason only: you have money problems and thus it affects your emotional state.
That's because you are trash who doesn't deserve the Internet.

>The American political landscape has essentially become a spectacle reminiscent of the worst elements of team sports and reality television. Fans are only interested in winning, so they invent all sorts of double standards and engage in endless equivocations to ignore the flaws in their side and the good in the other side.
Well put.

>Thinking they won't do this to Fox, Breitbart, New York Post first. They have higher viewerships than any liberal rags.

The biggest problem isn't that someone's stuff gets censored or 0-rated, it's that repealing NN allows ISPs to stop pushing bigger and better Internet infrastructure as a way to drive profits through bigger packages.

Repealing NN deincentivizes ISPs to compete against each other in broadband speed and instead in content provided. The US will continue to fall further and further behind and pay more while doing it.

So what happens to my free anime if net neutrality get's removed?

I am against net neutrality as it has never really existed since Obama made a thing out of it and is only a reason for Government to regulate the internet
t. not even US citizen

Dear customer, we are sorry to tell you that "Sup Forums.org" is no longer supported in are new and improved internet package. We hope you'll continue to be a valuable customer.

Blocked.

>>Thinking they won't do this to Fox, Breitbart, New York Post first. They have higher viewerships than any liberal rags.
They will do it to both sides to keep themselves looking neutral.
The thing though is that working whites and asians and some latinos can afford it, while liberal whites and brownies will chimp out for the majority and REEEEEEEEEEE in the gutters where they belong.
We don't need a great wall along Mexico, we need a Great Internet Wall against brownies, poor lazy garbage without jobs which somehow has access to the Internet which lefties are a part of.
It's gonna be beautiful.

Don't talk about politics you know literally nothing about.

Blocks are easy to circumvent unless you are a brainlet, which most brownies are.
Paywalls are harder to circumvent, and lefty gender studies garbage can't afford them.
Civilized wins in the end.
Let the great cleansing begin.

Are you making up your own slang terms? What are you talking about girl?

The fewer amerimutts on the internet the better it's that simple

Oh, so your a Jew. Got It.

nobody is actually against net neutrality. dems tried to do the right thing 2 years ago, which meant republicans had to be against it, thus it became a partisan issue, thus the Sup Forums meme shit you see here today. reactionary edgelord self imposed retardation.

Try me

Net neutrality is necessary until ISPs can be separated from content companies. Nobody selling you bandwidth should be able to dictate how that bandwidth is used.

>noone is against government regulation
uhmmm try again sweetie

Fucking this. Before the election, internet users were pretty much universally for net neutrality and not changing the internet for no good reason.

you're not against net neutrality, you're against government regulation you stupid motherfucker

You literally don't know what you're talking about. Everything you said is a counter to each argument so it's redundant.

>hurr net neutrality didn't exist before 2015

Net Neutrality rules existed and applied, and Verizon got hit with a lawsuit for breaking the rules.

Verizon won that lawsuit and the court said - more or less - that the FCC needed to clarify on Net Neutrality and Title 2 in regards to Telecoms like Verizon.

That opened the floodgates to abuses by Telecoms throttling and censoring services and websites, which then prompted public outcry to change the Net Neutrality rules - as the court ruling said should be done. The Obama Admin clarified the rules, and all was well until we got a Verizon lawyer in charge of the FCC.

Now he is removing every single net neutrality protection. VPN's and CDN's will no longer be internet utilities, so enjoy paying out the ass for those (if you run a website, you're fucked). If you compete against the internet giants like Google and Netflix, they have incentive to fuck you over with exclusivity contracts/deals with the major telecoms. Soon you won't have a choice of bitchute or twitch instead of youtube. And startups that haven't even come into existence yet will be strangled by market monopolies on the internet before they even get started.

Con-fucking-gratulations, retards.
Celebrate it. You're witnessing the TV-ization of the internet in real time.

explain how one exists without the other

For it but feel helpless in that there's nothing I can do to stop people from taking it away. Am I alone in feeling this way?

If you think it is ok for an ISP to blackmail content companies, you don't need need net neutrality. The only reason we have it is because that happened.

I don't want my internet to turn into cable TV.

I think it is ok actually
use more pay more

Sup Forums /ptg/ faggots are the scum of this fucking planet, how fucking dumb are they? trump only won because they campaigned for him online, now they want to hand over control of the net to the people that trump was fighting? fucking retards

do you know what net neutrality is
do any of you know what net neutrality is

I'm for it since it's an obvious benefit to consumers. However, certain nuances are almost never brought up. Like the fact that huge actors like Netflix, Facebook, whatever, have for years had CDNs and sometimes even act as their own ISPs (more or less).

Why?

It's really simple actually. They get so much traffic they basically get DDoS'd every day. They have to be prioritized by ISPs because of the sheer amount of traffic they get.

You also have the fact that different ISPs and internet providers (and also Netflix etc) find themselves having to build new infrastructure due to traffic running across ISPs and shit. Who takes the bill? Well, they work it out amongst themselves.

It's also worth noting that the whole Verizon and Netflix debacle way back also had nuances pertaining to this, and more likely than not they were not throttling anything. Their networks simply got overloaded, and much of that actually had to do with Netflix.

Wish I remembered the details, but I'm not motivated to make this more than a mediocre post. I'd encourage people to look up the nuances of this themselves. Truth be told a sloppy "everyone must have equal access to the internet" could itself end the Internet. CDNs would be gone and ISPs wouldn't be able to work out deals between themselves etc.

But again, some form of net neutrality is essential, or we'd actually get fast lanes and shit and actually having to pay for what parts of the internet we want access to, which makes absolutely no sense.

hardly care either way, the anti-NN crowd are generally retarded teenage libertarians but the vocal pro-NN crowd are insufferably cringy slacktivist types who won't shut the fuck up about it and mostly resort to the same dumb fear mongering and hyperbole as the other side of the debate

But you're not using more.

I hope NN is gone by christmas. I sincerely want the Internet to die. Hopefully it will be enough for all these soyboy Trump cucks to realize the big orange dick in their ass.

I'll laugh when nobody is able to get to Sup Forums, and I'll laugh even harder when all the mainstream free porn websites become inaccessible and all you idiots with a porn addiction are left with are subscription sites like BLACKED, Bangbros, and Tushy. Porn stars are about to be the real winners in this who debacle now that people will finally have to start paying up to see tits.

It's not a matter of Use more pay more. This was literally an ISP demanding money from a content creator that had absolutely no business relationship with that ISP. The content creator basically had to pay twice, once to their own ISP and once to yours, which you already paid for.

Internet service used to be: you pay for every bit you send or receive. The sender or receiver of your bits also pays to send or receive those bits. That may be redundant, but okay. Everyone agreed this was how it worked and was fine with it.
Then in 2014 American ISPs decided that Netflix sends a whole lot of bits and it's straining their capacity. So they demanded Netflix pay them more or they'll lower speeds of all connections to and from Netflix. That's bullshit, because those bits were already paid for. Twice. Instead of increasing prices for everyone (because everyone's bits affect the network equally) they went after one big company (that coincidentally competes with their television branch).

In the long run it will probably be for the better if america abolishes net neutrality
1. Everyone gets another reason to laugh at martsharters
2. it will incentive other forms of data transfer than HTTP, making the internet more decentralized and open for all.

Or American ISPs could use all their money to upgrade the network instead of swimming in it.

Ah yes, and then we have the dedicated fence-sitter who is clearly less cringy than people who like, care about things and stuff.

>it will incentive other forms of data transfer than HTTP
how so
what on earth makes you think HTTP is the only thing that will be affected by this, let alone the primary thing
torrents being throttled to hell on cumcast was what sparked this whole debate to begin with in 2004-5

and you are the worst of all, ebin centrist
kill yourself

IPoAC

Net Neutrality is being abolished because no widespread harm beforehand (from a customers perspective) has been demonstrated. Until there is actual harm you can show as a result, why get so upset about it? It's like watching a child and their parent argue over leaving the light on or not because the boogieman might appear. Seriously, I don't get the pro-net neutrality argument at all.

Am I missing something?

Enjoy your congestion.

They could also share lines instead of running 5 in front of the same house but you know that won't happen. This shit is a band-aid and title 2 gives them too much protection.

Plus I like saying shit piss nigger cunt fuck on the internet and I want the FCC to stay the fuck away.

I don't know why Sup Forums think they'll be protected. Sure their guy in office but what about before? The news is always shitting on Sup Forums.

This is literally the biggest win for Democrats come 2018.

We will take back the House and Senate, no question there. In 2020, we'll get Booker and he will get this shit repealed.

lol isn't everyone on 4chin a NEET

Net neutrality literally requires them to do deep packet inspection to enforce it so you're going to be giving that shit up anyways. This way it'll take an act of congress to make it any different.

>Am I missing something?
You're not buying into the spooky "Internet as TV packages" propaganda that misinformed people have been spreading non-stop for 15 years.
The FCC has regularly and consistently stopped unfair throttling and service blocking by ISPs well before NN. This is removing what amounts to a brand new policy that didnt do anything in the first place.

Nope. Tought luck chapie. :3

Sup Forums will be protected because they aren't broke liberals who can't afford internet access

please explain Im too stupid

This

>Thinking "no NN" means this level of granual filtering and throttling
Youtube and Netflix are going to suffer for this, and Netflix already made arrangements with major ISPs even under NN law. Stop buying into reddit-tier "ITS CENSORSHIP!" shit. ISPs don't give a fuck, they just want to keep bandwidth costs low and that means throttling 24/7 streaming services.

The postal service at the republic of shartistan can charge you extra for delivering packages based by whom they were sent by. They add a $100 delivery fee to all amazon packages. They have their own online shopping platform, which they charge nothing for delivering things. Besides this they also lobby for laws which disallow any competition and outlaw states from stopping them doing this.

Sup Forums is all redditors at this point, old Sup Forums was actually one of the biggest NN defenders, back in the day
the current Sup Forums userbase has no clue about NN or what is coming for them if it's gone

they really want trump's approval, I blame the daddy issues

It's a solution looking for a problem that may not occur.
And I personally don't understand why people are for more government regulations, it's usually the opposite.

How did you manage to remain a democrat in the age of information? Are you really young? Serious question, I'm not busting balls.

I didn't say it was the only thing dummy, I said "it will incentive other forms of data transfer". We will speed up the development of more decentralized forms of data transfer, and only a few stinky americans are hurt in the process

So in other words it's literally nothing and grown adults acting like children. That's what I thought. I guess I just didn't realize how much the redditors have infected Sup Forums with their cancer until now

What? Why would they need to know the contents of every package to treat every package the same?

Here's the article I read which will fill in the details missing in my post.
techliberation.com/2014/05/02/what-vox-doesnt-get-about-the-battle-for-the-future-of-the-internet/

>every single day on Sup Forums people talk about how the establishment is trying to destroy them
>same people now think if they give control of the net to the establishment, they will be spared

I'm definitely stealing this from you in explaining to people how much of a clusterfuck the current political "discourse" is

There's not much choice. You can't honestly be Republican in the age of information, right? So what, Greens?

How would the government enforce it if they cannot even observe?

What do you think net neutrality is?
