Fine for me; but I mostly watch anime and old silent films.

Ayden King
It's not that bad if you're comparing it to 1080p >be warned, the t420 has a terrible stock screen

Anyone ever use one of these?
I always use shit keyboards and while this seems to be in the same category, it seems a step above the abominations I normally use
Blake Jones
>ricing a 2 second splash screen you never ever look at this is even worse than ricing your grub screen
you'll NEVER look at it how many times do you even reboot your machine just to catch a glimpse of it for your glamour shots?
Andrew Diaz
It's not worth it unless it has the trackpoint. Get an ultranav USB keyboard
Leo Edwards
Lol I had to use those in my highschool they're pretty bad but I really wasn't ever getting the best experience with them because they were always crusty as hell man. >flips keyboard over >shakes it out >granola comes out (I think) >continue using normally there wasn't anything wrong with them but I would rather get something else if I were you.
Benjamin Moore
she's getting fat
Charles Davis
x1 carbon is mostly shit, maybe the latest one isn't and t470 it's too new I guess, so really expensive.

I've had my x230 for around 6 months, it's been great despite the ghosting on the display.
But I've been thinking about doing an "upgrade".
I had in mind the t450s because it seems really light and comes with a 1080p ips display, the CPU is slower tho so I don't really know.
Thoughts, any recommendations?
I paid around $200 bucks for my x230 with an ips display, 8gb of ram, a 44+ 6 cell battery that had a capacity of 75% and a 240gb ssd.
The t450s I found is around $300.
Julian Price
Fuck you saucey has been with us for years.
Noah Miller
It's membrane trash, I got one from school. Probably worth $5
Brayden Rivera
what get then
Luke Gonzalez
any mechanical keyboard, even cheap chink ones
Thomas Rivera
Wait is thinktrap also Samsung Chromebook Plus person? I want to get married to thinktrap.
Can you install a Core 2 Quad CPU in a T400? Preferably without having to use Coreboot (I need access to the HD3470).
I have one with a P8400 and I would like some more performance (I already have 8GB of RAM and an SSD) but I am worried about heat.
Dominic Gutierrez
It just works.
Matthew Watson
So does Xubuntu/Mint.
Ethan Lewis
how reliable is ebay for buying thinkpads?
i've been eyeing a notebook for a while now and generally looking for something both cheap and reliable, but aside from buying new (which i can't afford) i don't know exactly where to buy?
I hope a script kiddie pozzes you shit backdoored computer, you shitstain
Asher Johnson

Got my new T470 and a bit disappointed with battery life(6-7 hours max) is there anyway to improve the battery life on windows 10?
Wyatt Gray
You can limit the max clockspeed in the power settings.
Leo Flores
>*smashes the weeb out of you and the laptop* >you are welcome "bro"
Lucas James
you break my thinkpad I break your neck
Zachary Anderson
You break my record, now I break you
Evan Brooks

reposting here I'd still like to do some future project with my TransNote. As anyone from /tpg/ ever do something with this blast from the past? Ideally I'd like to have an ssd in it, some barebones version of Linux and use it as a dedicated IRC machine. I'm not optimistic an ssd exists that will work for it but hey. >pic related >x220 >transnote >w700ds
Lincoln Miller
great pic
Austin Roberts
Just bought x220 off ebay for £109
Should get it next week. Going to use it to write kindle books and general shitposting.
Hudson Evans
Well shit, would buy instantly

It's hard to upgrade a screen ? T60 or T61 ? x200, x201, x220 or x230 ?
Kayden Jackson

Michael Miller
reliable enough I've bought a dozen there over the years 3 of which in 2017. not much competing buyers so it's easy to snag a deal. sometimes just typing old laptop will popup some hidden gems
Samuel Nguyen
>that fat person shadow
Aaron Smith
All use the same 30pin connector. I think they just want you to buy the cable from them.
Michael Kelly
>pull out thinkpad >be an adult who can take care of his property >thinkpad starts normally without fanfare >browse futa porn until 9 cell dies

Cooper Clark
No. It requires an obscure hardware mod, and the stock BIOS would detect it as a single core device.
Noah Myers
not the same user, but what about installing a T9600?, Do I need coreboot or some hardware mod to do that?.
Jackson Collins
No coreboot required. You can go all the way to a T9900 if you want to waste money.
Jose Campbell
>new thinkpad requires a signature guess I'm never gonna get it then
Luke Lee
I want to put a fully free wifi card into my thinkpad t60, which ones will work?
Jaxon Gutierrez
My x220 runs hot. >60+ celsius. Pretty loud and high pitched noise aswell. Battery is almost dead.
I got it for 150$
Should i return it for 40$ or try to replace the battery and open it up and check the fans?
I'm sitting in the post office right now. What would you do?
Mason Howard
replace the thermal paste
Christian Brown
Repasted, clean it then buy a new battery

What's the best way to test battery capacities?
Juan Green
I turn my laptop off whenever I'm not using it, so I see it a lot. Literally nothing wrong with it.

Dominic Nelson
And how about a thinkpad for working. design program such as all of Adobe. Should be able to work multi Adobe program. Like.. work photoshop and Illustrstion at the same time. ? What do you think?
Gavin Smith
>6-7h on a dual core ulv piece of shit >full voltage 47w quad core gets 8h easy >b-but muh ulv battery life
Zachary Perez
My 47w quad core has 99WH of battery, a T470 has either 48 or 72 iirc. It's still an improvement.
Windows power saving, set it to power saving and fiddle with advanced options. Throttlestop lets you manually set the CPU to the lowest possible clock speed as well.
Asher Scott
And Fedora.
Colton Parker
No one answered but is this a g00d deal? $330 for a T450? and what if I could get it even cheaper.
Jeremiah Ramirez
How did you get this? I’m only getting $660
Angel Jones
honest question, X240 or T440p?
Will be carrying it with me to uni daily and in the train, I do have big ass hands though. Is the X240's resolution (1366p) still enough in 2017?
Hope to hear from you soon, hugs and kisses.
David Johnson
>Is the X240's resolution (1366p) still enough in 2017? depends what you're doing. If you want a high PPI screen I wouldn't bother with a Thinkpad. As for portability, the X line is much nicer. Carrying a T line around everywhere is a pain especially if you are constantly taking it in and out of the bag. X line with a swappable battery is the best imo. Never even need to bother with carrying a charger and being tied to plugs.
Asher Young
Agree, I already think the X series is pretty elegant so i'm leaning towards that one. It will mostly be used for programming and GIS applications (so I could use every pixel I can get honestly).
Still on the fence though, could do with some advice.
