is 900p to little for a computer?

is the thinkpad t520 have upgradable ram to 16gb? It says there is a max of 8 gb but people say you can install more

Fine for me; but I mostly watch anime and old silent films.

it's better than linux if you are a professional.

It's not that bad if you're comparing it to 1080p
>be warned, the t420 has a terrible stock screen

professional whay?

why is x1 carbon or t470 not recommended in the OP?

(srry for autism I am completely newfag and in market for thinkpad)

soo uuh black friday is tmr and I don't have much time to do much research, willing to spend $1500. can user reply with any thinkpad i should do research on, ty in advance

Anyone ever use one of these?

I always use shit keyboards and while this seems to be in the same category, it seems a step above the abominations I normally use

>ricing a 2 second splash screen you never ever look at
this is even worse than ricing your grub screen

you'll NEVER look at it
how many times do you even reboot your machine just to catch a glimpse of it for your glamour shots?

It's not worth it unless it has the trackpoint.
Get an ultranav USB keyboard

Lol I had to use those in my highschool
they're pretty bad but I really wasn't ever getting the best experience with them because they were always crusty as hell man.
>flips keyboard over
>shakes it out
>granola comes out (I think)
>continue using normally
there wasn't anything wrong with them but I would rather get something else if I were you.

she's getting fat

x1 carbon is mostly shit, maybe the latest one isn't and t470 it's too new I guess, so really expensive.

>she
>lady

got it, ty

Stop posting this autistic tripshit you attention whoring cancer.

I've had my x230 for around 6 months, it's been great despite the ghosting on the display.

But I've been thinking about doing an "upgrade".

I had in mind the t450s because it seems really light and comes with a 1080p ips display, the CPU is slower tho so I don't really know.

Thoughts, any recommendations?

I paid around $200 bucks for my x230 with an ips display, 8gb of ram, a 44+ 6 cell battery that had a capacity of 75% and a 240gb ssd.

The t450s I found is around $300.

Fuck you saucey has been with us for years.

It's membrane trash, I got one from school. Probably worth $5

what get then

any mechanical keyboard, even cheap chink ones

Wait is thinktrap also Samsung Chromebook Plus person? I want to get married to thinktrap.

xsauc is old and busted
tripcode is cute, cute!

you are fucking ugly, stop shilling your shit.

kys yourself

I want to snuggle with tripcode

Can you install a Core 2 Quad CPU in a T400? Preferably without having to use Coreboot (I need access to the HD3470).

I have one with a P8400 and I would like some more performance (I already have 8GB of RAM and an SSD) but I am worried about heat.

It just works.

So does Xubuntu/Mint.

how reliable is ebay for buying thinkpads?

i've been eyeing a notebook for a while now and generally looking for something both cheap and reliable, but aside from buying new (which i can't afford) i don't know exactly where to buy?

I am about to do the T430 FHD mod and I am afraid that this panel is not genuine. What do you think?
ebay.com/itm/Dell-Latitude-E7440-FHD-LED-LCD-Screen-Display-14-Model-B140HAN01-3-M1WHV/352187335035?hash=item520000417b:g:GF4AAOSwfrBZ5TU0#rwid

Should I rather get this more expensive, but definitely legit panel instead?
ebay.com/itm/New-Orig-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T450-T450S-FHD-IPS-Lcd-screen-B140HAN01-3-04X5255/142378686667?hash=item21266e58cb:g:~6UAAOSwmLlX7hqd#rwid

yes

same applies for the x220 and t420

thoughts on x1 carbon gen5? I am about to pull the trigger, how bad am i fucking up?

ebay.com/itm/New-AUO-B140HAN01-3-72-Gamut-16-2M-Colors-Wide-View-LCD-Screen-LED-for-Laptop/282664030053?hash=item41d016cf65:g:4MgAAOSwVRNZgQpJ

This says if I have the 768p screen, I need to change cables for it?

Is the T470p shit? Every review for it on the website is shit.

Are the docks a necessity? And what would tpg recommend for batteries?

I bought a kaby lake lenovo, with 8 threads did I do good?

>modern intel proccessor
Enjoy your vulnerabilities.

anyone know any deal for a T470 for black friday in Europe? can't find anything, in US one is like $700 and here it's around 1.219,00 :(

>and here it's around 1.219,00

that's EU for you lad, thank the cunts in brussels.

HALP!!!

>in US one is like $700
kek

k3k the fuck

>here's your laptop bro

Got my new T470 and a bit disappointed with battery life(6-7 hours max) is there anyway to improve the battery life on windows 10?

You can limit the max clockspeed in the power settings.

>*smashes the weeb out of you and the laptop*
>you are welcome "bro"

you break my thinkpad I break your neck

You break my record, now I break you

doubt a weebfag could actually do that lmao

reposting here
I'd still like to do some future project with my TransNote. As anyone from /tpg/ ever do something with this blast from the past? Ideally I'd like to have an ssd in it, some barebones version of Linux and use it as a dedicated IRC machine. I'm not optimistic an ssd exists that will work for it but hey.
>pic related
>x220
>transnote
>w700ds

great pic

Just bought x220 off ebay for £109

Should get it next week. Going to use it to write kindle books and general shitposting.

Well shit, would buy instantly

Which DE ?
Where to get figures ?
Share wall ?

It's hard to upgrade a screen ?
T60 or T61 ?
x200, x201, x220 or x230 ?

comfy

reliable enough I've bought a dozen there over the years 3 of which in 2017. not much competing buyers so it's easy to snag a deal. sometimes just typing old laptop will popup some hidden gems

>that fat person shadow

All use the same 30pin connector. I think they just want you to buy the cable from them.

>pull out thinkpad
>be an adult who can take care of his property
>thinkpad starts normally without fanfare
>browse futa porn until 9 cell dies

...

No. It requires an obscure hardware mod, and the stock BIOS would detect it as a single core device.

not the same user, but what about installing a T9600?, Do I need coreboot or some hardware mod to do that?.

No coreboot required. You can go all the way to a T9900 if you want to waste money.

>new thinkpad requires a signature
guess I'm never gonna get it then

I want to put a fully free wifi card into my thinkpad t60, which ones will work?

My x220 runs hot. >60+ celsius. Pretty loud and high pitched noise aswell. Battery is almost dead.

I got it for 150$

Should i return it for 40$ or try to replace the battery and open it up and check the fans?

I'm sitting in the post office right now. What would you do?

replace the thermal paste

Repasted, clean it then buy a new battery

Where to get animu furry?

Thanks senpai. I hate making decisions

Anyone know what the best bench for testing stability of an undervolt is?

>Not quad booting Linux/Win10LTSB/Android/High Sierra
Shiggy

As far as membranes go, it's one of my favourites.

Is that michael reeves in a costume with a fake accent??

Pic related.

What's the best way to test battery capacities?

I turn my laptop off whenever I'm not using it, so I see it a lot. Literally nothing wrong with it.

ty m8s

And how about a thinkpad for working. design program such as all of Adobe. Should be able to work multi Adobe program. Like.. work photoshop and Illustrstion at the same time. ? What do you think?

>6-7h on a dual core ulv piece of shit
>full voltage 47w quad core gets 8h easy
>b-but muh ulv battery life

My 47w quad core has 99WH of battery, a T470 has either 48 or 72 iirc. It's still an improvement.

Windows power saving, set it to power saving and fiddle with advanced options. Throttlestop lets you manually set the CPU to the lowest possible clock speed as well.

And Fedora.

No one answered but is this a g00d deal? $330 for a T450? and what if I could get it even cheaper.

How did you get this? I’m only getting $660

honest question, X240 or T440p?

Will be carrying it with me to uni daily and in the train, I do have big ass hands though. Is the X240's resolution (1366p) still enough in 2017?

Hope to hear from you soon, hugs and kisses.

>Is the X240's resolution (1366p) still enough in 2017?
depends what you're doing. If you want a high PPI screen I wouldn't bother with a Thinkpad.
As for portability, the X line is much nicer. Carrying a T line around everywhere is a pain especially if you are constantly taking it in and out of the bag.
X line with a swappable battery is the best imo. Never even need to bother with carrying a charger and being tied to plugs.

Agree, I already think the X series is pretty elegant so i'm leaning towards that one. It will mostly be used for programming and GIS applications (so I could use every pixel I can get honestly).

Still on the fence though, could do with some advice.
