last thread: What is Sup Forumsternet?
Sup Forumsternet would be our own decentralized p2p network running on our own infrastructure, powered by something like ipfs.
Similar things have already been done: businessinsider.com/cuban-youth-built-a-secret-internet-network-2015-1

This project is less than 2 days old, so we need all the expertise and help we can get.
Every contribution is valuable!
Gather a group of friends and join the irc and wiki.

To do:
- decide on standards for software and hardware
- create resources for newbies
- gather more people
- start building something in the Houston & Austin area

Reminder that GNUnet needs a new UI in ncurses because current UI is trash

First post best post :^)

Okay, now unironically

Why is /out/ the only board that makes their thumbs relevant?

Make it say outernet and put pepe with an antenna on its head.

A name is really a necessity at this point. Current suggestions are on the wiki. mesh.gentoo.today/wiki/Category:Marketing#Growing_the_Project

Kek, I'm unable to connect and join the irc.

You have to allow bad SSL certs.

>no outernet
Dude, that name was hot since the second thread.

Apparently it already exists and is trademarked. Believe me, it's my favorite suggestion as well.

or add the certificate it to your certificate database

We have a working forum here.

Shit, then is going to be undernet or alternet, mark my words.

Alternet would be alright.

Alternet is my fav, sounds like a play out words of "alternate," and brings to mind radio connections of alternating waves.

I still like OtherNet best, but I'd definitely take AlterNet as a second.

Let's do it.

>name the project alternet
>use netrunner as favorite web browser with moonman as mascot
>get instant publicity for obvious jokes
I won't say I don't like the idea, but I totally see where this is going.

Okay. We spent six hours picking our team name, we have fifteen minutes left to complete our project, guys!

>I remember this from gradeschool.

Web-browser? If users aren't picking their own OS and apps, this shit aint gonna fly.

Is just a joke.

It's cause they have good /gd/ level guys working on the logos. I can make our logos good too, I'll work on it.

Can someone migrate all the relevant shit thats in the pastebin and add it to the wiki?

The Wired is the best name so far.

Is there a single programmer + network-competent person in this thread. I can contribute on that front, but I feel like it's just a bunch of underage b&s itt.
>obsessing about name
You can change it later. Sup Forumsternet is fine.

>programmer
What for? Is just matter of installing stuff.
Maybe we do need help to build antennas and shit, but guess what, we are on Sup Forums and there is a board for this

Gotenna meshnet?

If I had more time in my life I'd jump right in bros. My ridiculous idea was to use these cheap laser pointers, cheap photodetectors hooked up to rpi or arduino to send "signal" from one window to another.

>build antennas
A lot of netgear routers (DD-WRT capable) has removable antennae, you just need to screw on something with a higher range, and maybe increase the power to them a couple points (don't go too high, or it'll fuck up the signal).

What about making a sister thread on /diy/?

Let's not until there's something more specific that we need. Or unless we just want to see how many of them want to get on board with setting up large networks.

Sorry. dont think laser pointers are gonna work.
Even if you have little time you could check back with us in a couple of weeks when we have an easy method for setting up a node and see what you can help with.
If you live in the right areas that is.

I'll check back for sure, but I live in Poland so that probably doesn't help.

>Or unless we just want to see how many of them want to get on board with setting up large networks.
We have more than one option, let them work it out a couple ideas we can learn.

Where's IRC at right now? (No, I don't want to join, I just want an update).

Portland seems like a great place to try and get large groups of people together and get a shared network set up. The whole "be a unique and original community" thing should play right into what we're trying to accomplish. And if it works in Portland, other major areas would be likely to adopt it.

Find two different ways of solving the same problem? I like how you think user.

fleshing out the wiki and discussing protocols

I'd get Spokane up and running, but folks here don't like new things; I heard someone talking about the '74 worlds fair like it was yesterday last week.

bump

>No logo
>No Mascot
Why even bother?

goddamnit why do we need 10000000 separate "rebuild the internet" campaigns. Ironically we need one central effort for a true decentralized internet to ever catch on. Not a company, but a central open source project. We can't have millions of them or we're going to have zero compatibility.

Who's the other pin in Vancouver?

What's happening now is a race of who can build it the best. But it this will never stop, look at GNU/Linux and the amount of distrobutions. Everyone is going to have their own ideas of how it should be done, and some might not agree, thus making new projects.

As much as it would benefit us all to just focus on one platform, it helps to flesh out the system when we have multiple people working on totally different ideas

You mean that there's others? Tell those fuckers to knock it off.

Important question
How do we keep the black people off?

...

I highly doubt that there'll be any white women there, it shouldn't be an issue.

Already in here.

>Already in here.
kys nigger

By being a niggerfaggot.

...

Missed the first thread, why the Austin and Houston area?

How will we censor ungood-speech in Sup Forumsternet?

to answer that question we must answer

Mexicans attempting to escape ICE.

>N I G G E R F A G G O T
>I
>G
>G
>E
>R
>F
>A
>G
>G
>O
>T

>Sharing your internet with anons.
Yeah not doing that FBI.

>ungood-speech
What?

>Sharing your internet with the government
Yeah not doing that NASA

please we need funding to pay our diversity officers

nigger

the wired / outernet
libbie

Those two things don't really go together

How about this logo based on the wired's for starters?

I just can't get out of my head it looks just like the starman from mother 2/earthbound

I second this

you should start making meshnets with other anons in your city, that would be way easier.
t. knower

How do I contribute?

...

wouldnt u like to know

i give the idea, do the rest, while we shitposting on irc.

Niggers can't into technology.

...

bump

How much money are you planning to put into this?

Can we call it the inter/g/net

archived thread links are near the bottom

I have big hopes for this project

have we decided on the protocol we are using yet?

Learn about the subject propose ideas

Once we decide on things get you and your friends to run some nodes.
>inb4 Sup Forumstards don't have friends.

honestly I think we just need to say fuck it and decide on using libremesh, it's our best bet at this shit going anywhere

shameless irc pastebin
pastebin.com/NgR954hy

that'll be 5 shekels royalty for that content

also you fucking leaked IP addresses

Instead of irc can we use something matrix based? matrix.org

Lasers are the only way

they were already public

When do we start digging holes and burying cables?

people with many nodes close to them can start as soon as we have decided on a standard.
Join the irc.

Wouldn't it make more sense to call it "The Wireless" instead?
You can still appeal to Lain that way.

The guy who tagged south-east of Prague on the map, hit me up on [email protected]

We can actually try to create a mesh around Prague at least.

B.A.T.M.A.N.

This is kinda stupid since no one is actually working to develop it

there is nothing to develop, we use existing tech.

what makes this different from other implementations?

other implementations are not fueled with autism.

iphone are for child
