I'd speculate on what I've seen there's something of an epidemic of overprotective mothers trying to steer their kids away from drugs/violence. For lower middle class (quite a few people in the region) that probably means a lot of guys sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time as there's really not much else they can afford to do that their parents will think is somehow beneficial (kid's studying, learning english, etc.) Mexico already had a NEET generation prior to millenials because of underemployment and poverty cycles, probably not all that different elsewhere in the region.Add to that "well behaved" boys are expected to live up to often archaic social mores and not encouraged to interact with the opposite gender for fear of of teenage pregnancy, which also keeps a lot ofn girls locked away.
