Why are you still using Windows?

I've been using GNU/Linux for years and I don't miss Windows one bit.

How do you draw a perfect circle in GIMP?

Checkmate, Linuxtard.

I've used ArchLinux, Gentoo, Funtoo, OpenBSD, DragonflyBSD, Mint, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Slitaz, AlpineLinux, and currently using NixOS yet I work with windows so that's why.

I stoped using wndows this year, because i decided that i will not contribute to a company that is becoming BIG Brother for its users

Your boss owns you.

I'm there to move everything over to linux. The current code base is in C#, slowly being rewritten in Elixir to ease future development and deployment.

Have yet to convince them nix is the perfect deployment tool for this project (it works on windows now) but we'll see in the next few weeks.

Got Windows in a VM running on Linux. School.

>How do you draw a perfect circle in GIMP?
Just use the path tools dude. It's true there's not tools for drawing shapes directly but you can use any of the selection tools to draw a selection shape and convert it to a path with one click. The paths are vectors, you can manipulate them and stroke them multiple times with different brushes. BTW, gimp initially was not meant to be a drawing program but in the development versions they already added important drawing functions like support for the mypaint brush engine. It wouldn't be strange if they add shape drawing tools in the near future. For diagrams it would be better to use inkscape or LO draw which are better suited for that than a raster image manipulation program.

For diagrams use dia

Yes, that's also a good option.

Not saying that windows is not valid for that but maybe if you give some nice examples we can discuss what options for each kind of task are available on both ecosystems, otherwise it may sound rude but your post sounds like a lot of buzzwords.

Just killed the w7 partition. Literally killed the fan, while it works well on linux.

addicted to vidya

This was me a week ago, but this past week Windows has finally started showing its flaws. The only reason I actually use it is because my uni requires me to use software that locks my computer down for tests.

get good at drawing faggot

>a minute work of something that can be done in a flash on windows

V I D E O
G A M E S

Every OS is flawed these days. I use Kubuntu and sure I'm happy with it but I do indeed miss some of the software and games on Windows, and the dual boot option is never not an annoyance.

Windows has some legit issues. Font rendering is pretty fucking terrible and mactype is not exactly that great of a solution. Anything newer than Windows 7 requires downgrading the file manager to apply custom themes properly. Malware is still a risk, and while I spent many, many years thinking that wasn't a thing at all, I just randomly decided to run a scan with malwarebytes and suddenly found out that I had some miner in there, even though I hardly ever change my browsing habits or download trash. It doesn't help that something like 10 gets a lot of trashy services nobody should ever need.

If I try to boot into anything other that unflavored ubuntu or windows it boots into a black screen, tells me some shit about an unrecognized file system and to insert media then press a key, and this is with secure boot turned off

Your uni sounds awful.

i'm to poor to afford a ps4

Muh gaemz

I can't install Windows 7 on my PC and Windows 10 is so trash that it cured my gaming addiction.
Mint just werks.

Games + Adobe programs

And don't come here and tell me that Wine will solve all my problems because it barely fucking works

This is right. If Windows alone already works without hitting in any error or annoyance at least for most of time, then there's no reason to upgrade to distros, since you're already comfortable.

And obviously, I'm talking about any Windows developed prior to 7 or 8. 10 is awful in all ways.

>a minute work of something that can be done in a flash on windows
Are you aware that:
- Gimp is by far not the only tool to do this on linux, so this has nothing to do with the OS, you can even use photoshop with wine if you want it that much.
- The video is long but clearly shows more capabilities than just drawing a circle, to draw a circle it takes just a few seconds.
?

It is necessary to be either such a MS fanboy or linux hater? what's the purpose of your post?

Just use a VM?

>Games
This pasta may help:
Not him but the no games argument is not true anymore. Windows is the best os for gaming mostly due to most game developers are trained into developing for it with microsoft's closed APIs, so the simple process of porting a game that was developed for windows to any other platform will affect negatively the performance of the game. This with the fact that the marketshare is small compared to windows there's hardly an incentive at the moment to optimize for linux, making look as if the platform were worse for games than windows when in fact to flip the situation you'll need to change the idiosyncrasies on the industry itself.

The fact though is that the situation on linux is not nearly the same than two years ago and now those who prefer linux over windows now can play games on it, helping to break the vicious circle, but still there's a lot of things to do for linux to compete in the gaming side. I anyone wants for this to change i recommend to play the games you can on linux when possible and ask for linux ports.

I notice some people doesn't want's for this to happen but if that the case let me ask (not directed specifically to the person i'm replying): how are any of you benefited in a meaningful way with the current situation? because i consider that keeping the statu quo just to have a tool to win an argument on what OS is better is not a meaningful thing. how having less options and practically being locked to MS products benefits you?

>And don't come here and tell me that Wine will solve all my problems because it barely fucking works
Wine is a very good tool tho, and impressive. It's true the compatibility can vary a lot but when something is compatible it usually works fine, giving you the chance to avoid needing windows which is a good thing if the only thing locking you to windows (assuming you genuinely like other OS more) is a few programs.

why are you still on apple's cock? literally no argument, not even muh gaymes

Good for you. Stay there.

how do i go this on linux? someone told me I need to dl a 'tweak' from Ubuntu Software Center. MATE btw

I have one windows machine, and it is my gaming desktop.
Servers, laptops, it's all linux nowadays.

here's my circle, I made it on Windows™

how do I go that on paint?

All banks require windows to work

But I don't, user. My work desktop, home desktop, and laptop all run Ubuntu.

when-jason-was-at-da.itch.io/vore-sandbox

The software won't let you run it in a VM... They have iPads they give to students without laptops. I might just start using one of them, or just buy a new HD for linux and when I have a test just put the Windows HD in. I need more space anyway.

I'd love to use GNU/Linux. Had to use it back in University when writing C/C++ projects and it's amazing. The only thing keeping me stuck on Windows is games. My CPU and motherboard don't support pass through. If it can run FFXIV and BDO decently then I have no reason to keep using Windows outside of any new games that may come out.

>Then don't let the software know it's in a VM.

>not using buttcoins

Same here OP, I laugh at winfags who dont leave that sinking ship.

easy , don't want to use some nerdware that's not plug and play easy

>Why are you still using Windows?
Because can't stop playing shitty blizzard games.

Games and I'm not tin foil like 90%here who probably are all identifiable by many things job/id/friends the only way for true privacy is to be homeless and work for $in hand

Cool for you, but some people have different needs, like games.
The selling point for a PC is versatility and in an OS is holding that back, the potential of your hardware then it isn't the most ideal set up.
I want to install a distro again soon. Grub menus are always a worry in the long run.
HAven't had a distro on my PC since I upgraded everything so it'd be interesting navigating around my files etc.

Every 5 years or so when I get a new comp.

>Why not try Linux on the desktop again
>Have to start alsamixer

Hello Windows my old friend...

And this is coming from a Unix/Linux sysadmin going on 20 years. To be fair I have 3 sound cards in my desktop.

Morale of the story: use the right tool for the job.

Can't pirate the latest games on the GNU Operating System.

I can't live without Excel. Microsoft is balls deep integration in my life, but I use excel too much to quit.

I can't play kusoge and other AAA-shit-games under Wine and it sucks.
I had to install Windows.

So I ended with dual-boot...

Because I'm trying to see if I can still fix our loveless relationship. I don't know many replacements for various software and I barely started to really consider getting linux. I'm not sure which to get yet and I also don't know whats a good hard drive/flash drive to save my information and back my shit up in case I need to go back.

Why doesn't Libreoffice satisfy your needs?

because vns

I'm hijacking this thread.

About to upgrade Windows 10 from 7, since you still can with the accessibility deal. But... Can I skip all that and do a fresh install, and just enter my windows 7 key? Anyone test this recently?

I was expecting more gaymur replies. OP gets one brownie point for not doing the typical "in b4 muh gamez". I would go to something like Debian or Trisquel if the AAA game developers supported these platforms more.

I dualboot but one specific old mmo keeps me. Lineage 2.
I guess QEMU would be an option, needs an easier installer. Also I need a second GPU.

1) I have a job
2) I play video games

Needing 2 GPUs is a pain in the ass and wasteful. Hope there is a more elegant solution in near future.
Wouldn't have considered it if my hardware didn't support it but I was lucky already had iGPU in i7 CPU and IOMMU didn't conflict so I didn't need to patch kernel.
Works pretty well on my system but took me a good while to figure out how to set it all up and customise it to my liking the first time.

webm related was my old Xubuntu passthrough setup, long since migrated to arch but I couldn't be fucked making another video. That video was made on the spot to prove to another user that I wasn't bullshitting.

'cause it's shit. is made of fail and aids!!!

A lot of things are still Windows only.

If steam will be able to run natively EVERY GAME IT HAS on linux then i consider moving because still i cant play shantae and cuphead.

Haha linux

I decided to return to Linux. This is temporary until I get my new computer parts. I'll be using my new computer with Windows 10 only because no VR support for GNU/Linux with Oculus Rift. Convince me to stay. I love VR too much.

Video games.

Linux can play vidya games too. It might not be able to do VR that I know of, but more and more devs are releasing for Linducks.

becouse security wise is very hard to break in if configured properly

Not as many as Windows though.

Because windows 7 actually fucking works 100% of the time.
The best linux distros just look like they work, always something breaks.

because why would i spend time fucking around with linux, when windows works perfectly well and runs all the apps that i need/use for work?
and fuck 'muh alternatives', why would i spend time looking for, and using, a buggy alternative that only has 75% of the features, just cos muh oss?
linux is for the tards that have time to fuck around fixing shit that should already work.

>tfw you reformatted your HDDs in ext4
