Got netbook

>got netbook
>4gb of ram with a pentium processor
>has windows 8 preinstalled
>no bloat surprisingly
>slow as fuck
>wipe hdd
>install ubuntu
>still slow
What could it be lads? The only thing I have installed is Firefox and libreoffice. The screen's fucked up now, but it'd be nice to know for future reference

found your problem

fpbp

Isn't that a netbook standard? And besides, it's not like I'm gayming, it's essentially a word processor and Excel machine.

they were underpowered crap even when they were new

>>install ubuntu
There's your bloat. Install lubuntu or something.

This.
Also, get an SSD, that helps a lot.

They're slow. Really slow. If you're gonna do anything with it you're gonna need to learn how to do them in other ways. That is using LaTeX for word processing and those lightweight anime desktops people use on Sup Forums

I've ever heard of a netbook that had a full size spinny drive.

>not lubuntu
It was literally designs for this

I've actually never opened one. Do they not have normal 2.5" hdds?

they do, I've swapped an ssd into one before
it was still slow useless sh*t, they're just too underpowered

Never hear of one that didn't have an SSD (usually the cheapest, slowest available, soldered in.

how old are you?

Makes sense.
Lubuntu does help a bit with that though.
I had an old average one which I used for basic word processing for school, it was definitely usable, even if very slow.
I think we're talking about 2008 era netbooks, not new ones.
Afaik they only started using soldered ssds by default a few years ago.

*acer, not average.
Autocorrect a shit

5400RPM hard drive you donk

Post full specs. You probably want a lighter OS. Lubuntu is highly usable. Only problem is it *might* be too heavy for your laptop.

Other options that are lighter than Lubuntu are AntiX and Puppy Linux.

Install Debian Jessie on it and use Dillo as your browser. Can't get comfier than that. Related vid.

I feel like I got one hell of a deal

Show programming socks and pantsu tripfag

stop shilling your shitty youtube channel

Ubuntu is fine, but you should not be using a DE. Try i3 or openbox.

Oops meant to quote OP

>hdd
>slow

We used to buy peaches from them before the fame. I even went to the same college.

Anyway,

> use lean software, that arguably would make the most difference
> chromium os if you want a literal netbook
Search your model number to see if there are other ricers to learn from (almost certain there are)

...is this an attempt at being a trap? cringe

Jesus Christ, I didn't think this thread would get more than 5 replies. Thank you all. Thinking about getting a T420 as I'm tight on money right now

4GB ram
500GB HDD (It's either 5400rpm or 7200rpm)
Some Pentium processor
Integrated Intel HD graphics

x220 would make more sense imo even if it's smaller
using the t420 rn, the screen sucks absolute donkey balls

I'm not on /tpg/ a lot but can't you replace the panel with an Alienware one?

if you can get the converter kid, which is now only sold on ebay for several hundred dollars

kit*

Damn... Guess I'll check out the x220.

should get xubuntu or ubuntu-mate for netbooks m8

> dillo
Might as well use lynx if you're going that far.

Install Gentoo.

It has a Pentium M, which are only slightly less shitty than Celerons.

SSD my friend...

xfce won't make you vomit like mate will.
