I have been using elementary for 1 year and it is pretty comfy indeed.

Really? Could you be more specific about the problems? Most can be fixed. Ubuntu has never given me any major problems. If you are a Steam user the Solus project might be worth a look, but I recommend staying put with Ubuntu and fixing the problems you're having.

yeah, looks like I'm too much of a brainlet to get rid off glithes with proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Works out of the box in any other distro I've tried. Also had some problems with pulseaudio where I couldn't get mixer to work.

I'm not the CEO of nVidia, but I can't help but think that forgetting about their more tech savvy customers is a really bad idea. In more ways than just selling them hardware.

Ubuntu is funky when using two different monitors on a laptop. Brightness controller adds color temp/gamma function which is indispensible for reading web txts. I like the fact ubuntu just works without too much hassle.
