No reason not to desu. Its much better to watch anime today than it was 10 years ago - better quality, better subs, almost everything gets subs and there were amazing animes for all genres in the last 10 years.

Also, if you like free software, unlike gaming watching anime doesn't require you to give up freedoms really. The best video player for GNU/Linux is 100% free.

If you want something light to start, check Sakamoto desu ga. Its a comedy, IMO very underrated.
