$200+? You can get an x220 for $150 on eBay completely assembled and it will greatly outperform that piece of shit. Even a T60 probably would’ve done the job better. Congrats on your garbage, that’s what happens when you cheap out.

This is the last repair I give to this machine. Glorious 16:10 aspect ratio is awesome, but I want to fall for the /highDPI/ meme for D A N K font rendering on moon runes, even at the cost of 16:9 aspect ratio.

Next machine is going to be a XPS13 if the content adaptive brightness can be turned off on next gens, or another thinkpad x series with a 1080p display

Because you're not just decoding and rendering a video. You're also loading and executing literal megabytes of CSS and JS antifeatures. On browsers that have feature creeped past “browsing the web” many times over now.

You could try using a lightweight browser. You're removing all the features for which you have no use, but you're also switching to a JS engine that won't have years of tweaks to speed up aformentioned megabytes of shitty JS.

Just use YouTube-dl or something instead, I believe smplayer has a YouTube search plugin. It’s not the video, it’s the webpage itself that is garbage and bots down your performance. The video is extremely easy to play. My T420 can play 1080p60 40mbps video from my gopro with ease if I use hardware acceleration via MPC-HC or MPV.

Mine can do that, this is Youtube 1080p24 on a low voltage mobile Core 2 Duo. 1080p60 looks like a slideshow though.

That’s a great laptop for him, I hope he appreciates it. It can’t play games but it’s definitely a workhorse.

I know it *looks* like the *30 gen keyboard but unlike those it's surprisingly good.

I own a T430. Keyboard is shit compared to the previous gen but it's OK for a normalfag. Display is normalfag tier also. It's not as resistant as the previous gen but still good. Comes with USB3 which is nice. Replacing the HDD with a SSD it's a good idea, not only to gain speed but because 7mm HDDs are unreliable as shit. I have actually played games on it like Starcraft 2 and Napoleon Total War and it can handle them at medium settings. A fine laptop overall.

well the only way to know if it's a fast enough cpu/gpu is to play a 1920x1080 sfm porn webm from /gif/. That's the way I test my laptops at least.

exactly what i thought when i saw ths specs
i like it for the limited terminal stuff i'm running on it, browsing isn't that terrible honestly
it does 1280x720 flawlessly, but 1920*1080 is too much for it and lags greatly. also audio stutters more than a loli even tho it's at 30-50% cpu util on youtube/etc. probably shit drivers.

you could pay $50 for an x200t like me

paid £120 for my x220 and it does everything i need. if it breaks beyond what is obvious (eg motherboard, screen) then i'll just buy a new one
