Is this the first ever glorious AMD driver? I had so many bad ones 10 years ago, and the Adrenaline driver, released today, seems to be turning the tides!
yes i'm hyped about a driver, hate me! This have support as long back as the HD 7XXX!
Or my own picked features: >Game overlay function, EVERY control can becontrolled >"Chill" as a compliment to Freesync, designate power saving options, and the algorith works it out. Civ6 at 10 FPS in still frame, move one pixel, 70 fps instant. (Vega GPU got as low as 40watt!) >ReLive - first functioning streaming function in driver? >AMD Link, everything can be controlled from an app over wifi!
Yes, scots should've been gassed back in the 17th century.
Leo Walker
yeah, but you get used to it.
His very critical of the companies usually, and more theoretical than practical. But he could propably save Linus from the meme shit channel, even with that accent.
Ayden Rogers
This looks actually fucking useful. Can nVidia finally copy this mighty please? I need this for my 980ti.
Kevin Hernandez
that accent is fucking godly
I sometimes dream of a having a scottish gf and hearing her god "ohh yis shag me arse"
Dominic Reyes
>GPU Temp 102 Yup, sounds like an AMD GPU alright!
Seriously now, I do like being able to see stats on an external device, that's quite useful. I wrote my own program which runs on an old PDA to do that.
Christopher Gonzalez
Only one release at the time, like every other big company. Slow and steady, milking the market. titan V, fuck them.
Jacob Thomas
neato can i see it? what's it run on?
Jackson Thomas
Titan V is actually a half-decent product for personal ML workstation. I want actually decent consumer fucking software from a company that is famours for decent fucking software. Why the fuck half the driver suite is still using the control panel out of 2003?
Lucas Morales
See AMD is till out for blood. Pushing Intel and Nvidia ever harder. Fucking impressed with the power consumption control. If things keep up Navi might just be next on my list
Christopher Price
Guess what driver is officially open source
Josiah Scott
testing my AMD 7870
Aaron Sanchez
fucking disgusting
Levi Murphy
>I sometimes dream of a having a scottish gf and hearing her god "ohh yis shag me arse" Great. Now I have to search for Scottish porn. Hope I don't come across too many sheep
Ryan Price
Report back with your findings brother
Joshua Peterson
>I had so many bad ones 10 years ago NAME ONE, MOTHERFUCKER
(and, no, the fanspeed locked on bootup doesn't count, as that was quite recent)
I swear you fucks spread misconceptions around like soft melting butter on a toast.
Daniel Green
On an old Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox N560, unofficially flashed to WM 6.1. I like having the old PDA do something useful again, I loved it back in the day.
William Ortiz
>2018 >Drivers are now about the prettiness of user interface then actual performance and stability Kill me please.
James Reed
Seconding this. Does this driver still demand that you remove the old driver and then install the new? Always found that to be an annoying pain in the posterior!
Joseph Gomez
Never done that though, at least for the past 15 years, never had problems.
Austin Wood
It would actually be pretty bad if the driver weren't stable that something as basic as stability would be a headline feature for the yearly "big" driver release.
Nolan Martinez
>>GPU Temp 102 >Yup, sounds like an AMD GPU alright! Where the fuck do these numbers come from, mine never goes over 68C under load.
Adam Wood
I used to use my iPaq exactly for that.
Adrian Harris
>Is this the first ever glorious AMD driver? Every AMD driver is always the first glorious driver that people pretend to be finally good, but always end up as shit. I'd rather have the old school control panel without any of this obnoxious horseshit,
Brayden Rodriguez
Any updates? My 8970 has been stuck on 2013 drivers because my APU isn't supported with newer ones.
If you could report back that would be great.
Connor Wilson
The temperature in the video is 55C
Colton Lopez
All graphics cards drivers always suck, doesn't matter if it's AMD or Nvidia. The only ones that weren't total bullcrap where Voodoo driver
Jason Jenkins
Fuck knows, some air-starved Vega maybe, or it's just a mockup from some marketing guy who doesn't know shit. 102C is ridiculously high otherwise.
This is about the only thing I can't think of to do with it that's also useful. Even the web has gotten so bloated that hardly anything is usable. It works perfectly well as a performance stats display though and I like it way more than actual overlays over a game.
It's the same image in the video too.
Wyatt Wright
>All graphics cards drivers always suck, doesn't matter if it's AMD or Nvidia. I'm okay with nvidia drivers on windows, and linux (to be honest I'm only on my first nvidia card this year though). I'm also happy with the open source amd drivers, so the only drivers that I personally think suck are the ones that AMD releases themselves.
Liam Nguyen
Everything works (beside all new Vega features, like watt usage)
And holy shit my jaw doped, some engineer found time, to make my numlock LED blink when AMD Chill got enabled, it's a old fucking generic HP office keyboard from 2005.
Pic related, ignore the dust, see the LED
Luis Jenkins
>Using bar charts that don't start at zero.
That's a dick nVidia move right there. AMD lost the high ground.
Aaron Lopez
264 watts to 64.
Michael Nguyen
yup, which over priced DDR4 are you gonna buy from this saving?!
Josiah Smith
It's completely fine, when you show clear numbers on actual performance. I see nothing wrong in AMDs marketing, it's only FOX news and CNN styled charts that make me chringe.
Charles Moore
See this:
Brandon Ramirez
Still no Vega hardware features enabled. They can suck my dick.
David Rodriguez
Can anybody get iOS app for AMD link? It's up on Android, but i can't find it for my shitty iOS
Nice. AMD has done a really good work open sourcing their linux drivers, AMDGPU just werks. What's left to open source? OpenCL components?
Zachary Bailey
Sure, on GeForce experience just for 19.99$ a month
Tyler Clark
And don't forget to log in with your Facebook account!
Austin Lopez
What, is that a new driver for tablets? I didnt know there were any mobile devices running amd hardware
Jordan Bell
Is there a reason for this shit besides also giving them a pipe to upload telemetry to their cloud? Wtf would I want a phone app for my graphics card? Where the fuck is DSBR and fp16 support?
Tyler Brown
Well if you set up amd link manually you set the server as your pc. But of course this does not prevent them from sending this data anyway if they wanted to, but that was always possible so don't be a fag.
Zachary Martin
You still can't explain to me why the fuck you need a phone app for a goddamn video card and since AMD still hasn't managed to put streaming hardware enc/dec/frame buffer capture into their GPU and either > Have an app that utilizes it > Open up API access They are still behind the curb. I was expecting features to be enabled finally and all you get instead is some worthless phone app and pretty GUIs.
Overlay means they're doing frame capture, overlay, and then reserving it out of the GPU.. So, where is the API access? Both ngreedia and AMD enjoy hiding these features behind telemetry apps and no your server is not your pc w/ amd link dipshit. Its being processed through their cloud... Just like ngreedia's telemetry app : Geforce experience.
Benjamin Edwards
>have RX 480 8GB from some leftover pre-built I got from a MicroCenter really cheap when I worked there as it was a shitty HP build >no warranty on the card >not sure if I should sell it and play with the 1050ti I got for $115 before the mining craze, while hoping to get a new cheaper 580 with warranty, or just keep it Do 8GB RX 480s sell even for anything?
Ethan Young
>nvidia has done this for a while >literally no one cares >amd does it >GUYS ISNT THIS AMAZING MINDBLOWING WOW THEY JUST KEEP RELAUNCHING THE SAME OLD SHIT OVER AND OVER AGAIN TRULY REVOLUTIONARY - I LOVE APPLE I-I MEAN AMD
Joshua Morales
How can you have a job and be so poor?
Isaiah Nguyen
>Do 8GB RX 480s sell even for anything? No, I'll give you $50 for it though because I am feeling generous.
Jayden Morgan
What does this do? I haven't kept up with tech news in a while.
Xavier Carter
I own both Nvidia and AMD vidya cards and this is my sentiment. I don't see what the fanfare is about. This is exactly what telemetry Geforce Experience does that has gotten a lot of hate here. Drivers are drivers. Shit tier overlay/add on software is just that. Drivers are invisible and function near the hardware level. I'm still waiting for FP16 and various other features they marketed to be enabled in drivers. I could give a shit less about relive or whatever they decide to call it next month. I dont install telemetry bullshit on my computer. Open source Vulkan looks good which has nothing to do w/ this release. Open source OpenCL support is even better. Do these things and resolve the features that aren't enabled that that would be mindblowing. Goys love GUIs though.. so here you have it.
Jayden Walker
It's not exactly a career job as I'm still in College, just something extra that I do in my free time for extra $$$ in paying off college overall. However it was not really a question of whether I can afford it or not, but instead on if it's possible to save a bit more in selling an 8GB RX 480 for money towards a new GPU. Also I haven't checked the new 580 prices so I think they are still in the 300s I believe, which honestly is not worth that much in investing as I already have a GPU (1050ti). It's a cherry on top sort of thing, don't need it (since I have a GPU already) but would like, and since my monitor has freesync as well.
Hunter Ward
What? >what is relive >what is gpuopen You can even use the hardware encoder with OBS if you don't like AMD's program.
Luke Martin
> Drivers ---- > Relive > Obs ---- > GPU OPEN = Open source drivers and API access
3 different categories. AMD has decoder hardware for h.264/h.265. To my knowledge they dont have encoder hardware nor do they have frame buffer capture hardware. So, they're still behind nvidia and they're engaging in Ngreedia's same dick tactic via their own telemetry software suit that is akin to geforce experience.
What I am most interested in is : > Performance improvements via drivers > Feature enablement from the featureset they marketed vega on > Open source stacks : GPU OPEN
Performance improvements came w/ adrenaline Feature enablement did not occur Open source stack is coming. So, meh... My vega is literally sitting on a shelf.
Evan Perez
would be so much better if they would work on a standardized interface for this shit but ultimately it's entirely disappointing something like this is getting hyped when both have so many problems
Jacob Bennett
They do have a hardware encoder, it's called VCE and it has been there since GCN1.0, that's what Relive and OBS use. They offer a framework for using it, AMF, which is part of GPUOpen.
Connor Cox
>Is this the first ever glorious AMD driver? Meanwhile even the MAD pajeets at /r/amd are talking about class action suit because primitive shaders are still not working.
Jonathan Martinez
Ok, so .. they have an : > Encoder > Decoder for h.264 and h.265 (HEVC). I was aware of the decoder and figured they had an encoder.
However, do they have frame buffer capture hardware and is it made availability via an API? This is the crucial feature that's missing which is of value to all streams. Ngreedia for instance has this and the hardware is present on their consumer cards but they only allow access via Telemetry Geforce Experience. So, what does AMD do in this regard, if they even have the hardware, that isn't equivalent to Nvidia?
Caleb Powell
I have an RX vega that's sitting on a shelf. If they don't deliver soon, it's going up on ebay or I myself will be joining in with such legal proceedings. I bought the card based on features that were advertised over and over that they have not delivered on or even provided a timeline. It's a fucking paper weight until they do.
Jack Sanders
cheapest card out of these that does hevc/vp9 decode?
