If you want help:
>State the budget & CURRENCY for your build
>List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work
>For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)

CPUs:
>NO i5 7500/7600K or i7 7700/K. THEY ARE DEFUNCT AND SUPERSEDED BY COFFEE LAKE
>G4560/G4600 for non-gaming (light tasks) or bare minimum gaming builds with a dedicated graphics card
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (best with OC + fast RAM)
>R5 1600 / i5 8400 - Great gaming (especially the 8400) or multithreaded use CPUs
>R7 / Used Xeon / Threadripper / i7 - Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Mixed use

RAM:
>Current CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal
>Before buying RAM for Ryzen, check your Mobo's QVL or look for user reports

Graphics cards:
>Consider Vega 56 for a Freesync monitor
>Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up (particularly Radeon)
1080p
>GTX 1050Ti and 3GB 1060 are the only reasonably priced cards; 6GB 1060 or 4GB 580 if you want to overpay a little
>GTX 1070 if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
1440p
>GTX 1070/Ti and 1080 are standard choices; currently overpriced
>GTX 1080Ti if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
2160p (4K)
>GTX 1080Ti

General:
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
>A 240GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor

I can't fucking handle this anymore, Sup Forums

I've searched and searched for offers, for deals, day in and day out, mornings and nights, for months.

But this shit is just getting worse. The prices are fucked up, completely fucked up, and I need a fucking pc

I'm fucking shaking, I don't know whether to wait EVEN MORE or just fucking pull the trigger, this is killing me physically and mentally

FUCK WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY

Just put my parts together and one of my CPU cores is hitting 100+ degrees. Is there anything I did wrong?

What are some monitors

1080ti
I7 7700k
16gb ram

What is the difference between two Socket 1151 motherboards where one costs ~35$ and the other costs ~100$?
I know this a very stupid question but I have a cheap motherboard and I don't want to buy another one and have 1 spare motherboard laying around but if it compromises my build then I guess I have no choice.

noob here,

so i just bought a new monitor and the vga signal works fine but the hdmi signal doesnt

the hdmi cable isnt the problem as i tried a different one and still didnt get a signal.

amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-21-5-Inch-HDMI-Monitor/dp/B015WCV70W/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1513286095&sr=1-3&keywords=hp pavilion 22cwa

please help

asking again since last thread died

TFW sovietic germany had invented pair programming before it was cool

Anyone?

Buy a decent B350 mb, ryzen 1600, 2x8 gb ddr4 3000 RAM and a 1060 3 gb GPU. 550w psu and a good case. 250 gb SSD. That's going to set you back 850 +-50 or so. If you wait, you might save $50 on ram. Not a big deal.

Looking for suggestions on how to approve, this pc will be for 1080p gaming and video rendering, etc. I was going for as cheap as possible with out to many compromises and be a little bit future proof, thoughts? I was thinking of going for 16gb of ram at the start or going 1x 8gb stick and get more later and just buy a bigger sdd now. pcpartpicker.com/list/z4wc3F

show the CPU

Nice toaster

pcpartpicker.com/list/sJPXCy

Just finished buying the rest of the parts for my build. Think I did pretty good buying the parts over a month especially during black friday I got some good deals. The only thing I feel bad about is the cpu but I got tired waiting for sales on that, shits not dropping back down to msrp for a while.

Also what I'm upgrading from.

Bad sensor, update bios and shit. No way one core would be that high and the rest so low.

Yeah, I got a different read from a different software. Time to update Bios I guess.

Someone help me save on a MB eith decent OC ability for AM4. I saw this video on GN saying all the low end MBs are shit because of VRM temps and a 8 core ryzen 1700 would destroy those MBs when OC'd or running at 100% for cpu heavy tasks like compiling. youtu.be/vcqu-9Ejf60

Trying to get a decent clock like 4Ghz. Don't really care about going for more than that. I don't see why I would spend an extra 100 on a slighlty better MB when I could just get a 5$ fan and have it over the MB VRMs. Is this guy in the vid completely wrong for thr normal OC use case? Thinking about going with the Asus prime MB. Thought about the gigabyte for dual bios but seems like a useless feature.

Weird question but I just thought about it after buying an AIO. I work nights and leave my computer and heat off while I'm gone so it can get to ~30f in my house which is the freezing point of water. Would that be safe for a liquid cooler? Really afraid of pipes bursting and leaking everywhere now.

AIO coolent has some glycol, like the stuff they put in antifreeze, so it should be fine

I think they use some sort of coolant like propylene glycol or a mix of that and water, you should be OK.

Can you trust system requirements lab?

I ran some of the top games and it always says my ryzen 5 isn't good enough for the recommended settings, and that I should get an fx 83something. Whatever it suggests is always cheaper than my cpu

Alright thanks, If my house hits the freezing point of antifreeze I got other issues.
This is my first AIO so I'm kinda spooked by all the stories of leaking.

You can trust them as much as the dev's own recommended specs which is to say you can't at all.

it doesn't make any sense, it literally recommends an older slower processor, with fewer cores

Maybe it has a higher clock speed and that's all it's looking at or some other bullshit number instead of looking at the whole thing.

rehabs.com/about/video-game-addiction-rehabs/

Would anyone recommend turning PSU upside down so it helps airflow?

Also my Ryzen 5 1600 gets over 52°C while idle and the stock CPU fan runs very slow or not at all. Any way to configure it?

It's a few bucks. Don't let it get to you. If a few bucks means that much, evaluate your life.

Did you apply the thermal paste yourself? Make sure the cooler is seated properly.
Sensor could be buggered

1440p 165Hz IPS Gsync (non HDR10, unfortunately)
1440p 144Hz VA HDR10 Freesync2 (the Freesync is just a feature you can use later if you want to
Otherwise you'll have to wait for better monitors if you want high refresh rate 4K or HDR10 + Gsync

1151v1 (H110, B150, B250, Z170, Z270, etc.. 100 and 200 series chipsets) have various capabilities and are for either Skylake or Kaby Lake CPUs
1151v2 (Z370) is for Coffee Lake

Look at the measurements yourself

If you can afford it go with the 2x 8GB kit, but of course you could drop to 1x 8GB and get a 500GB SSD.
1070 isn't a future proof card by any means

CPU is overkill. Better have a nicer monitor on that way than that ACER or you just wasted your money

No one pairs an 8 core Ryzen with a shitty mobo and tries to OC. Also 4GHz isn't anything close to guaranteed / "decent"

>system requirements lab
I don't know anything about the site, but probably not. Do your own research at gamegpu and hardware unboxed

Update to usb port thing. It appears sometimes it provides power but if I unplug my phone from the microusb end of the cord and plug it back in, no power again. The port must have borked pins or something.

Am I fucked if I need a new GPU right now ?

Not at all. Mid range Nvidia are priced at MSRP, and you can find a few models of the RX 580 priced close to right

whats the minimum video card required to play 4k video from a PC to my TV?

iGP on any of the Kaby Lake Pentiums
Otherwise probably something like the GT 1030
Not sure about used hardware

>wait a week for $160 worth of RAM
>last part I need for my build
>finally arrives, slot in both DIMMs
>doesn’t post
>pull a DIMM and it boots fine, assume it’s a misconfigered bios setting, ignore it while I set up my OS since I’m excited to use my new computer
>finish setting everything up, decide to try getting both DIMMs to work
>after fiddling a bit, test the pulled DIMM alone in both slots, no post.
>decide it’s probably fucked and RMA it
>wait 20 minutes in a support queue to get a shipping label, am told I have to wait a few days after they receive the return before they will ship a new one
>likely have to wait at LEAST 7 business days to use my new build because I’m waiting for a fucking RMA replacement

Noob here, whats the advantage of getting a x370 mb over a b350 as both overclock?

Ask if they can do advanced replacement. They send the new hardware to you and it's up to you to send off the old stuff within a certain amount of time or you get charged the MSRP for the second piece of hardware

>better VRMs for serious OCing
>dual GPUs

that's about it

X370 does SLI and usually has better VRMs and BIOS utilities, etc

Ok I only plan of lite overclocking if I overclock at all and only one gpu so i'll go the b350 route.

...

I’ll give that a try.

anyone?

pc only has one hdmi port btw

This was me a month ago. just do it now friendo. RAM prices are going to get worse and plateau mid-2018 and maybe near the end start to drop a bit. GPUs are going to be up and down for a good year as well. maybe try and pre-order one or buy a 1070+ as those prices are a bit more stable (if a bit exspinsive, but at least you know where you stand).

Looking for budget monitor around $100 range, no more than $150. 1080p, will play not very demanding gaymes.

Any used ~23" 1080p IPS monitor

Are you plugging the monitor into a dedicated graphics card or directly into the mobo?

Prime B350M-A or TUF B350M Plus Gaming mb?

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236678

is the gtx 1080 only worth it if i've got a 1440p 144hz monitor?

Just get a 1070ti, 5% less performance but you save 200 dollars. Worth it.

Pretty much.

You can get a 1080 for under $500 these days.

About to order this workstation build
* already have a case, PSU and GPU
* the ECC RAM has Samsung B-dies and will be overclocked. 3000 CL15 should be possible according to other users.
* the Samsung SSD SM961 is identical to the 960 Pro except without warranty and 100€ cheaper

The only part I'm not 100% happy with is the CPU cooler.
165mm height could be too much for my Nanoxia Deep Silence 3 case.

What site is that?
I'd not use a WD Red for a workstation build, they aren't meant to be cycled regularly and are slightly slower for 24/7 NAS usage. Consider the Blacked version instead.
If you're unsure about the cooler height, Noctua makes one that's

geizhals.eu/

>I'd not use a WD Red for a workstation build, they aren't meant to be cycled regularly and are slightly slower for 24/7 NAS usage. Consider the Blacked version instead.
Good point and I thought about it. My desktop PC doubles as a home server. It's on 24/7. Hence the ECC RAM
Speed is an issue but noise annoys me more.
Total SSD space is 1.5 TB so everything important will be fast

A dedicated NAS hidden in a closet where I can't hear it with nice 7200rpm HGST drives in a RAID would be better. Maybe 10 Gbit/s Ethernet. Can't afford that right now, maybe next quarter

>Noctua
Will check out Noctua once more.

Bout to do it Sup Forums, stop me.
pcpartpicker.com/list/Gbf9hq
I really am already over budget, so I cannot add more of anything but if anything could be cheaper that'd be great.

Lower cpu higher gpu.

I'm eying the MSI Z370 SLI Plus with an MSI 1050 Ti Gaming, would I be able to add another GPU for increased performance in say, a year or so??

Is that Jenna Marbles and her groom?

mobo

which is normally the best option?

Does Skylake benefit from faster ram like newer CPUs? I'm currently runnnig a 6700k at stock 4ghz and 16gb ddr4 2400mhz.

newcomer here, is there any point in getting a freesync monitor with an nvidia card?

>90% less than retail

What's the catch?

Been wondering about these too.

Just shut down Chromium

ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/vPcHYr

how can I make this better?

Other features like HDR10. Most decent monitors come with Freesync by default. It doesn't conflict with Nvidia cards

It does but not enough to bother swapping. You're already probably
graphics limited anyway

SLI is dumb
Just sell and buy a single card with the perf you want

Pretty dumb to get the 8700K with a 1060 unless you have some other need for it besides gaming

If you have a dedicated card you have to plug the monitor into the card. Look into an adapter

What's your monitor?

Is there a comparison of titan xp sli vs titan v yet?

Recently bought a 1070 that damaged my motherboard and blew a 750W power supply so am having to rebuild. Doubt I can reuse my CPU (i5 3330 ivy bridge) as socket LGA-1155 seems non-existent now. Goddam bad timing for this to happen.

...

Just built a new PC for the first time, one of my CPUs is reading in the negatives. What do?

Contact the manufacturer and explain your situation in detail. If it really was the cards fault ask to speak to a manager and explain again, ask what they can do for you.

open hardware monitor hasn't been updated since nov. 2016, and I assume you have a recent processor since it's a new build. Use hwmonitor instead.

Those keys are legal but violate TOS so they might get revoked. Hasn't happened to me yet.

Which 1070 is that? Tell us so we can avoid that brand.

Even if it does get revoked the poojeet I talked to when I called microsoft didn't act like generating a new key was that big of a deal.

Which motherboard and psu did you use? Just curious.

how should i go about choosing one of these? Is it generally okay to buy Used? they seem tough to find otherwise.

The card:
ASUS ROG Strix OC GeForce GTX 1070 Video Card - 1657/1860 MHz, 8GB GDDR5, Dual Slot (STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING)

It was a micro ATX board, so that could have been the problem. Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS. All of it lasted 3.5 years without issue, and it would replace a GTX 780. Just, fuck.

The psu: CORSAIR CX-M Series CX750M
Which I see now has had terrible reviews and retailers massively discounting it.

What would be best for this 1070, psu-wise? Where should I start?

It was most likely the PSU senpai. Not the card.

Yep. It's a shitty way to go.

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117825D

8600k for $250.

Yeah, you can buy used. Just a thought, you could get a Haswell i7 and sell the i5

How much faster in gaming, clock-for-clock, are the latest Intel chips compared to Sandy Bridge? Cinebench ST scores suggest that the latest chips are a good 20–25% faster at the same clocks, but I've heard that in terms of gaming the IPC difference is much smaller.

you'd get 3-5 fps more. don't upgrade because its useless. you'd be better off getting a better gpu.

I only play one game and it's grotesquely CPU bottlenecked. Just wondering whether it's worth swapping out my 4.8 GHz 2500K for a new chip.

What game is that?

TF2

Lol. tf2. What gpu do you have?

> First time building, get pcpartpicker.com/list/JtWpyf together with an SSD and case donated
> Everything works great first try, install Windows and programs
> From that point begins freezing within 15 min of boot
> Tried with different drives and even Linux bootable USB, still freezes
> Scurried to friends to switch out and test with old GPU, PSU, Memory, etc.
> Narrowed down to motherboard or Ryzen CPU
> RMA'd the mobo on a gamble, as Ryzen looks flawless in voltages/heat

I sure hope it's not the CPU and I have to suffer more. On the plus side, days of troubleshooting taught me a ton about RAM types, and I picked up on how to overclock on the side.

>FX 8320 CPU
>RX470 4GB GPU

Which is in more dire need of being replaced for better gaymen performance

Why the fuck did I buy an off brand rgb, tempered glass case on black friday, they are shit on every level and the aesthetics get broken one day after cleaning up my room due to dust and desk clutter!

Can't even take the thing with me if I want to attend a lan or something!!

DONT. DO. IT. GUYS!

Irrelevant, it's an entirely CPU bottlenecked game.

wut case

Some Anidees tempered glass case that a local retailer decided to outsource and base their own case on, which they then slapped in a third party RGB setup in.

Haven't opened up the package yet, and now I saw in a Hardware Canucks video that they even rejected to review that case because it looked cheap on the inside.

Think I can still return it, but the shipping will cost a ton...

dude I'm stuck on a GTX 760. I refuse to upgrade to anything less than a 1080 but I'm not buying video cards that are 20% over priced. Hopefully Volta will save us. It's just around the corner. Right?

>GTX 760

Thats some patience right there.

I couldn't wait on upgrading my R9 380 so I got a GTX 1080 on BF, mainly because I wasted to much time every week on checking updates and prices. But to be fair, I think it packs enough power for me to last two generations before any upgrade needs arise again.

Well there really is zero reason for me to buy an overpriced 1080 when volta is right around the corner. I expect volta to have lot's of vr optimization as well. I'm finally taking the dive now that there are games. Even a 1080 might not be what I want. I want a solid 90FPS in VR.
for porn games
Whats a nice 24-27 inch monitor? I dont play videogames but I would like nice colors.
A dimple black design would be nice.
