lets go boyz

Not gonna lie that would make for a pretty cool macro pad, or maybe even a game pad. Thanks for letting me know about this OP. I wonder how games will feel on it.

The only good cherry style switches are linears

im very sleepy this made me very sleepy gona sleep all go sleep

This post is the truth

I don't know if that's true. Personally I'm really loving my cherry MX Clears.

That said, I've never used a linear switch.

pccasegear.com/products/39027/ducky-one-pbt-ds-tkl-blue-led-mechanical-keyboard-cherry-red

The only thing I'm worried is about the "slimness" of it. Is it better or worse?

Want it for cherry red, simple backlit and media buttons.

I don't get linear switches. They're just so boring. You press it, it goes down. What's more to say about it?

They feel nice.

>Just like any button. Who would've thought there was more?

My point is, compared to tactile & clicky switches, there's not much to discuss, no? Weight plus smoothness, that's it.

thought?

So what's the best linear switch now? Aside from shitty MX Red & Black, and vintage black which is hard af to find, what are my options? Gateron Yellow? Also what's the deal with Tealios?

I just bought logitech g413 and I love it.

Gat blacks/yellows are very nice, smooth switches stock. Haven't tried tealios

what the fuck did you do to your laptop keyboard

>Boring case design.
>Nice-looking keycaps, but still ABS
>Nice layout (especially the Fn key) but it will screw you hard if you plan to replace it with another Cherry set. incorrect row profile and all.
>Custom-made softwares that may or may not be maintained.
>Freaking $300.
Unless you're THAT horny for the layout, no.

That HHKB sticker is the saddest and most pathetic thing ever.

>escape >hyper >super >alt >meta >ctrl
What is this, an emacs keyboard?

What are those three buttons for? Do you play lot of flight simulators...?

The trackpoint is for moving the mouse.
The 3 buttons are for clicking the 3 mouse buttons.

Totally digging the blue outemus on my chinkboard.

I'm ordering a full set of black blanks (blank so cheap/fading print is not an issue) and maybe a flimsy esc key like a red one or one with a symbol.

Is there any dye-sub Cherry-profile keycap set with similar colorscheme? I prefer this lighter shade of grey than the usual PBT beige

Why would you want to have mouse buttons on your keyboard? Are you one handed?

If he played flight sims, he would be posting a picture of his HOTAS, not a keyboard.

I'm joking, it's actually nice when you code so you don't need to lift your hands so often. This in conjuction with framed window manager like Ratpoison is good place to be.
For certain use having a mouse is actually a distraction.

Not necessarily.

No one uses a keyboard to fly.

I've had blues for 7 years, I just got a pok3r with nature whites, it's nice.

i would like to get a custom usb-c cable for my ktype, what are some good websites to do so?

yea dude, logarithmic/exponential and parabolic switches are the best
special shout out to sawtooth switches

Here, actually. Some dude said recently that he was going to make custom cables from bulk components he bought from alibaba or whatever, and bleed redditors dry of their money

It's time for the cheapest 40% ortholiner meme keyboard: cartel.ltd/danck/
I'm unironically getting it though just to try out a 40% ortho layout for cheap.

is that site for real?

Ye
Check geekhack for the interest check thread

> have to solder EVERYTHING, even SMDs

I can do switches, but soldering those tiny little things is suicide.

yo what is that beautiful thing

>soldering those tiny little things is suicide.
nigger technology is leaving you in the dust if you think like this.

with the right tools it's very very simple to work with SMD, honestly I find it easier than through hole in many cases. here's what you do:
>conical tips are for plebs, get a fine point chisel tip, anything around 3mm is great because it can be used for either THT or SMD with great precision
>get stainless steel NON MAGNETIC tweezers
>get FINE soldering wire, get a hitachi temperature controlled paint stripping gun, these are around $30 and do just as well as proper hot air stations
>get a tube of solder paste, keep it in the fridge when not in use
>get a tube of QUALITY flux
>get 500mL or >98% isopropyl alcohol for drying washed boards
>get 1L of PCB/parts wash solution, this shit is invaluable for quickly removing flux from complex assembly's

see Louis Rossmann's videos for guidance and what vendors he uses for consumables. you don't need to spend a forture, $100 will set you up for the next 5 years.

ok Sup Forums which is better:

Razer - BlackWidow Chroma v2

or

CORSAIR - Strafe RGB MX Silent

I can only afford one or the other.

they are both shit get a better brand such as ducky

Wait for the kit next year.

GMK fucked up royally by insisting on coming to market with a $300 prebuilt with a divisive layout and not well liked switches first.

Mod-h tactile, zealio, ergoclear, topre 55g, topre Sony bke.
What do I go for? I love tactility and I'm going for a high end board so I want to get the best shit.
Leaning towards topre bke real force 87u

does bestbuy sell that?

yea I thought not.

I need to buy one in person, at a store, and get a warranty.

you get a warramty buying online dipshit.

Get the BKE domes

where's the cheapest place online where I can buy a mechanical keyboard, even if its only 2 keys

yes

yeah

Wrong website

What does /mkg/ think of the Vortex Core?

>locked down firmware on a sub-75%
It's shit.

>>locked down firmware
What did he mean by this

hm.. let me press the spacebar button
darn! i press the pitch button again!
hm.. let me press the backspace button
darn! i press the insert button again!

Proprietary shit that's not fully programmable with every key being adjustable. It's basically a requirement on anything smaller than a 75%

Have memios in the bottom case now.

They're not that great. Ergo clears are better.

Brown or clear?

What round? I dont like mine that much either, but I heard last round was better because of the springs. Not really sure if I should enter this next zealio silent GB that is about to open, of just get some mod-m.

Are there any converters that convert USB to PS/2? I prefer the technology for security reasons, but a lot of otherwise great new keyboards don't support it unfortunately.

Google

How much do you guys think a BNIB G81- 3077 SAU would sell for?

w2c topre 55g in europe without overpaying :^(

Neither

>G81
Maybe 5 bucks

Well topres are overpriced to begin with, but your best bet is to buy from japan instead. Amazon has 55g topre keyboards

It has cherry PBT dyesubs

Are you a redditor?
Even vintage cherry keycaps sell for 20-30 bucks. Heck there was a hospital in germany that liquidated a bunch of new in box g81 keyboards with dye sub keycaps for 90 bucks and people thought that was too much. Just because some retarded hipster bought one for 80 bucks doesn't mean that its worth that much.

I want tactile and Cherry is the only option. Brown or Clear?

You're retarded the keycaps alone sell for $200

show me, i would like to laugh on those that spend that much money on legos

Use google, I can't link you every sale

ebay.com/itm/Vintage-NCR-Workstation-Keyboard-G81-3077-SAU-Rare-/152787471202?

This one sold for $300

are you intentionally retarded?
that auction was about the keyboard ofc its going to be more expensive

You think someone bought it for the keyboard? They're shitty rubber domes.

then show me another one that goes without the keycaps you brainlet

You're actually dumb

>speaks about how expensive some keycaps are
>someone challenges him
>he is unable to demonstrate it and starts calling people dumb
still waiting you pretentious reddit nigger

I just showed you

$300-400

>You're retarded the keycaps alone sell for $200
>show prove
>this prove ebay.com/itm/Vintage-NCR-Workstation-Keyboard-G81-3077-SAU-Rare-/152787471202?
>no its not, that's a keyboard auction not for the keycaps
still waiting

>G81
Maybe 5 bucks

>Getting angry on the internet

They just buy it for the frame, not even for the keycaps...

I doubt that even rare dolch keycaps sell for 80. You should be looking at normal keyboards not rare customs. You can go to the deskthority market place to get a sense for prices

deskthority.net/f-o-r-s-a-l-e-f58/og-cherry-pbt-dyesubs-us-ansi-fullsize-t16614.html?

These sold for $190

what is the point of a mechanical keyboard? all the shitty non-korean starcraft players would use them back in the day, was it just for show?

Browns, Blues, or Clears?

>deletes and hides everything
How about you post proof instead. Vintage g81 3000s are selling for 70 bucks on ebay with dye sub keycaps and the 1800s for half that price.

> Vintage g81 3000s are selling for 70 bucks on ebay with dye sub keycaps

You're lying

I'd say Blues or Clears, depending on if you prefer a clicky sound (Blues) or a more tactile switch (Clears)
browns are just bad

Another user said Varmilo offered different switches if you contact them, I just sent them an email about clears. If they say no and the choice comes down to Blue or Brown, which should I pick?

they offer every cherry and gateron switches, ordered mine a few days ago

Kailh box white or gateron brown? For a superior typing experience?

So did you send them an email or is there an order form? Does Gateron have better tactile switches?

How do you guys feel about unicomp keyboards? I'm considering getting one but haven't really heard much about them

my gf has one, feels nice to type on, keycaps are pretty good, they wont ship the trackpoint version to europe though.

>my gf has one
Does she have a feminine penis?

no, she has a feminine vagoo

please tell me you're doing it on purpose

prntscr.com/hook6m

>40%
>wasted one whole key on Pn because you're too cheap to make it remap-able by software.
Forever my main gripe with Vortex boards.
Other than that, OK 40% board. You should know already if you want that layout.

Topre is a different kind of tactility to Zealio and clear.
BKE domes (and the Redux ones) is better than stock Topre.
Zealio and Clear/ErgoClear are similar but Zealio is lighter and easier to find.
That's 2 branches for you to go down. Try both and pick one.
