Will it ever be possible to simulate human consciousness with machines that can essentially make us live forever by transferring our brains to new models over and over? Everything has to die, right?

Well, I mean, even if you do that, you're really just making a copy of your memories. The original you will still die.

What about your soul? Checkmate crackers

its OK i'm ginger

Moar like the OP pic, please?

Sent ;)

>ever
Hard to predict.
Most likely not within your lifetime.
If we keep making advances, who knows where we are in 500 years.

we're nowhere near understanding human brains enough to do anything like that

theres a whole game of OP pics called elite:dangerous

>simulate human consciousness
>make us live forever
>simulate
>live
do you see where your logic breaks?

It would just be a copy of our memories, right?

the conscious self is just an illusion already

>Most likely not within your lifetime.
This.

Yeah but you die in the process of transfer. The transfer is a new you that thinks it is you because it is, but from your point of view you dead lmao

You may or may not care though, Egan has some scifi books about this shit.

No.

It's the 2014 Elite game. Only recommended for actually playing if you are very autistic. OP probably used it because life extension and immortal cyborgs are a thing in the game's lore.

you should try and play SOMA, it explores the concept really well.

The game is a fuckhuge timesink.
Youll spend days looking for shit just to be able to unlock npcs to get the privilege of spending weeks looking for more shit to literally gamble on the chance of maybe getting a good upgrade or getting fucked with a horrible downgrade.
>tfw Im not autistic enough to keep playing it all day every day

databases of what commodities are where
>find nearest stating with 400X
>find a station with 10,000X
>fly all the way there
>X isnt even on the menu
>find next station with any X
>fly there
>X is sold out
>find another station with adequate quantities of X
>go there
>only 14 units
>mfw

...

>need to buy 60 cigars to unlock a ho
>only 1 single station in the entire universe sells the fucking things
>hurr sorry you can only purchase 7 of them at a time

idk maybe

Aside from the grinding (and you're only describing the trading), it's very fun. Exploration lets you explore a procgen galaxy that's life size and land on any solid planet without an atmosphere, and the combat is decently fun if you have a decent ship.

I wasn't knocking the game itself, just certain game mechanics that make my blood boil from wasting time.
I wast trading btw, It was engineering. I cant recall what it was, I think landmines, but I needed a stupid amount of them and it was difficult to locate them for a while.

I'm glad I didn't buy Elite 2014 now. Loved Frontier on Amiga and pc back in the day too

Its still a good game
