Why do you still use Windows?
Especially as your primary operating system

What's holding you back from jumping the shark from fully switching away from WinShit to a distribution?

I still use my Windows 7 because it simply works enough and has no errors and issues so far. If I'm satisfied with it already, then there's no need for me to switch to distros.

Oh, and it's also because I play video games on my PC.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking can't be used directly in a web browser through WINE

No Linux distro supports hardware acceleration in the ThinkPad T60P's FireGL v5250 GPU and everybody I've asked about it has dismissed me because apparently "working graphics drivers" only means "drivers capable of rendering your desktop onscreen at the correct resolution"

FL Studio runs like dog shit in Wine. none of my VSTs work properly, and I can't get midi hardware to work.

Not enough GOOD software

I'm running FL 12 on wine, works perfect under xorg, buggy under wayland.
But it wont process mp3 files unless you install lib32-lame on arch.

Regardless of above, Windows (10 in my case) works better with my SSD/Apps, performance beats most Distros I've used (Debian, Arch, Ubuntu). And honestly, It looks good without me having to customize it.

Drivers and windows only software.

Fucking around for an hour to install all the source code packages for a driver and then having the compilation fail for your obscure devices is a pain. Past a certain point trouble shooting linux just isn't a great use of time, especially when you're not getting paid.

I already use linux at work for my workstation and for programming its great.

I'll keep using windows, but for my next desktop I'm switching to running a linux hyper visor to keep windows 7 running for the next 15 years and to bottle up the retardation that is windows 10 as I slowly get pushed into that.

Gaymen is the only excuse, but it's a pretty good one.

It's a shame really, most OpenGL games run flawlessly on Linux.
Devs should fuck off with their DX shit and start using Vulkan.

I use Windows 10 LTSB on my laptop because it gets better battery life and the UI is somewhat usable. Meanwhile every desktop for Linux is utter trash and always gives me shit battery life unless I go with something like Openbox and Tint2 which has less features than an Android launcher. It's just trash. On my desktop I do run Fedora with KDE and I use QEMU to run Windows 7 for games and macOS Sierra for Adobe shit and some legacy software for work that only runs on OS X.

Gaymes reasons mainly, iTunes, MS Office. Shitty mic sound due to a mismatched sample rate that got CANNOT change. WoW STILL doesn't work in wine etc.

The list goes on.

You do realize XFCE exists, right?

"Most OpenGL games" ≠ "most games"

why do you care? mind your own business.

Windows 7 here. Fuck Windows 10 and Nu-Microsoft. Can't force me to update faggots.

I didn't say that fag, I just said that the fact that popular games like CSGO run flawlessly on Linux, other devs should start supporting it.

Overwatch mostly, also I don't know if the Linux drivers of AMD support Freesync. If these two would work as well as in Windows I could live without Windows at home. I can't at work, unfortunately.

>no polish
>bugs everywhere
>always in flux
>doesn't have simple features like backup images
>updates daily
>made by commies

While that's true, MS is trying user. Don't be too harsh on them

classic opensores denials aka. why it will never reach more than 10% desktop usage

Are you implying daily updates are bad? Because the only Linux system I've used that updates daily is Arch and its derivatives. What do you mean by polish? Can you list some of the bugs that are everywhere? Because I've been using Ubuntu on my laptop for 5 years with about the same issue rate that I would have on a Windows machine. What do you mean it's always in flux? You can back up things on Linux just fine, so I don't know where you're getting that info either. Just because it's open source doesn't mean it's made by Communists.

yes I'm implying that because most of the time they aren't even security updates just the developer fucking around trying to be self important. bugs as in all the desktop enviroments. they are all shit that have inconsistent program compatibility. always in flux like each developers has a different idea of future of linux and so its constantly being pulled in every direction. I wasn't that serious about commie joke but there are a lot of faggy socialist and sjw now.

They still don't have daily updates unless you're on a distribution like Arch or Gentoo. Which bugs in desktop environments? Can you list some specifically, or do you just not like having the ability to choose between different things? What inconsistent program compatibility are you referring to? Again, I've been using Ubuntu for years and have not run into any of that. A program that works on my gnome desktop works just fine on my xfce or unity one just as well.

There are many free alternative DAWs that I personally think are better than FL Studio.

It doesn't matter you don't want to have an honest discussion so I'm not going to bother.

Adobe Premiere CC

I'm asking for direct examples of the issues brought up. How is that not wanting an honest discussion?

gayming, I can't stop it man. I don't have any friends, and I barely go outside beyond work. All I have left is gaymes. I wish it wasn't like this but it is what is, too autistic to function without it

Nrwfags: install Ubuntu, when safe, install Debian, don't fall fir Mint

GNU/Linux is piss easy nowadays, same explorer, same buttons, easy

Just do it, let your dreams come true
In case of a problem /fglt/ will help.

------Technically------ all gaymes could run better with OpenGL; extremetech.com/gaming/133824-valve-opengl-is-faster-than-directx-even-on-windows
(old ass article ik)

because even if I name them one by one you will just say stuff like.

1.never saw that on MY MACHINE
2.just werks on buntu
3.thats not a bug its a FEATURE

I don't know how you could use linux for 5 years and never encounter a bug so you're being disingenuous at the start.

Dual boot. Use windows as gaming console and GNU/Linux for regular computing.

This. My 5 year old niece can figure out Ubuntu via touch.

I teach, and haven't found a Linux replacement for OnTopReplica to cast a single window to a projector.

Getting ThinkorSwim working under Linux is a genuine pain in the ass I have no interest in dealing with. Linux is meme software that nobody fucking can make money using.

Linux is a kernel.

I'm glad you can predict the future and assume how I'll respond to something. That must be a useful ability to have.

Either use Renoise or Ardour

The ONLY thing keeping me on Windows is Photoshop since it runs awfully on Wine and can't handle large and demanding stuff. If Adobe ever release a Photoshop for Linux then I will switch immediately.

Work requires me to use it, so I'd rather not get used to a new OS

>What's holding you back?
Three things
- I can't stand linux cucks on internet, they all have this complex where they have to shit on everyone else to justify their choice
- Linux distros doesn't have all the programs I use, and the alternatives are complete garbage (most of the time)
- All distros freezes on my laptop because of some error in the kernel that fucks with my family of Intel Pentium N-series, and the only solution is some bandaid one that requires to do the same steps over and over again every time you turn on the laptop.

Forgot to add on the second point that Wine is not a viable option. It's just a bunch of hacks that doesn't work properly most of the time

>muh gaymes

>Games and other win only software
>drivers

In this context, wine is not an option (perfect example would be WoWs, it can't run properly on Debian). Else than that, I'm tryng to use Windows the least I can

I use windows because I am a cuck--plain and simple.

Games and Adobe Lightroom will always keep Windows as my primary platform. I've never had issues with Windows 10, I don't understand any of the hate it gets, desu. I just use the built in bash in Windows now to program and export that out to an SSH server.

krita is just as good
t. cracked photoshop user

It just werks™

What else could you on a pc using linux ?

I want to program while I play games, and Linux in a vm works enough. And I don't have the energy to troubleshoot all the random issues that inevitably pop up

Do you have examples of those issues?

Most people don't use computers for their own sake or for just one purpose, and for that Windows is the best option.

I need something that actually gets work done without spending a thousand hours on configuration installing shit so I can install other shit.

I don't have autism

I don't care.

Trying to get sound on a TV plugged into my gpu hdmi port. Tried every solution I could find, fucking with drivers, different kernel versions, boot options but never managed. On windows it just werks

Not the user to whom you replied but plz list some; did some composition in the past

Oh and tried both babby distros

I don't run it on all my machines.

i use a windows 7 VM solely to run solidworks
all the games i want to play work fine in linux itself

i should test solidworks again in wine to see if it's gotten any more stable (not that solidworks is particularly stable even in windows)

Everything supports windows 7.

Not everything supports some meme distribution and why would I waste hours to get something to work when it already works perfectly fine on windows?

Feels like they just dumped win 8 and 10 out there for tablet / phone normies. downgrading is better than using win 10.

Games.

Also, Linux sucks.

No they couldn't, just because one really old and simple game was faster in OpenGL doesn't mean it always would be. There's no guarantee that OpenGL would outperform DirectX 11 in most instances, if anything the opposite is likely true.

Anyway Valve was comparing their game running in OpenGL 4.0, which released 6 years after Half-Life 2. L4D2 still uses DX9.0c or something when running in Windows. Vulkan >>> DX and OpenGL

I always use a debian based distro Except when im playing muh games, i have a whole separate harddrive i switch the sata over too just with windows 7, muh games, and discord. I run xubuntu on my SSD and thats where i do everything else.

If you want to do something else on your PC than shitpost and code, you can't use Linux

I have a gaymen PC that runs windows for obvious vidya purposes.
I also have a laptop that runs linux mint.

I believe that Indian culture is the result of normalization of Asperger's. In Western society, it is thought of as a disorder and therefore Aspie behavior and thinking is outside of what is considered socially and culturally accepted.

However since most Indian men suffer (or make others suffer) from at least a mild from of asperger's, it has become part of their culture.

music production software not much supported on for linux distros if they were i would ditch windows instantly

>Not realizing you can turn on the a/c and open the windows to ventilate a room and renew the air
Typical neet/Linux user, not realizing there are more than 1 use for computers

it just werks

I want to get shit done, not have to try to find out why this toy operating system breaks every week

Windows 10 just works. And now it has integrated ubuntu so I don't need to dual boot.

i love win 7. it's kind of like how i felt about win xp sp3. i will never upgrade unless something better comes out or my VNs start working properly on wine

example of a vn which doesn't work in wine?

Because your Lisux cannot play vidia since the beginning of beginning.

Why spend so much time installing distros when you could use that time to study theory and read some books.

>Why do you still use Windows?
Because I already know how to use it and it does everything I want it to

>still believing that linux is in anyway a replacement for windows.
Linux is a nice OS, that is, if you like to play with an OS. Beyond that it has nothing of value. Software available for it (which is what matters) is mostly just freeware crap that only in some cases does the job well enough, but only if you have low standards.

Linux is not a serious option. I wish it was, but it isn't.

> itunes on windows

wow has worked in wine for a long time

>itunes on anything

>Installed Linux
>Mouse accel is shit-tier
>No games

there is no point switching OS to do the exact same things in a different way.

Most of the software I use doesn't have a linux version, or has shit alternatives or requires WINE, at which point, what is the reason to do it in the first place?

most of the software i used before switching to linux didn't have a linux version, because i was looking for software for the OS i was using
now that i'm on linux, i use software available for linux, which may or may not be available on the OS i used before

Unless I run Xfce or LXDE all the other desktops on Linux run slower than Windows 10, also browsers are slower performing, screen tearing is annoying and random across both igpu (inc +tearfree) and NVidia.

Generally Linux just performs incredibly poorly on my desktop compared to Windows, since I use Botnet 10 I can and do use WSL, don't use it for much but it's there and my cross compilers work in it so I can get hobby shit done in my downtime and Windows keeps out my way doing everything for me the rest of the time. It's comfy.

I used only Linux for 8 years during college/uni but now I don't have time or patience for it and the appeal of spending 8-14 hours a day sat in front of a computer tinkering got old a few years ago.

Adobe Suite for work. Games for fucking around. And no point in switching to macOS. Like Ubuntu+unity without all the free software.

>Inb4 unity stole ui from macOS

>Photoshop
>Illustrator
>InDesign
>Premier
>AfterEffects
> a bunch of other photoshit

Any ideas on how I can overcome?

I use more then one monitor (multiple resolutions/refresh rates/orientations) and have several sound output options. There are several more little nitpicky reasons (to say nothing of software), but those two major things are something that will simply never work on Linux. Ever.

>blocks your path

I've tried Linux many times but I always went back to Windows 10 eventually. Now I use Enterprise 2016 LTSB.

Because of software that doesn't run all that well on Wine at all.

I use Kubuntu on my laptop though.

>I'm running FL 12 on wine, works perfect under xorg
then who will make this work for me? you? thats right, no one! But on windows people get paid to make sure their software runs on platform they are developing for.

No one but yourself can make it work for you. It's your system. However on debian and Ubuntu, it was just a case of loading it through wine, and adding my activation through regedit, all else worked flawless.

If Linux doesn't work for you in its current state, switch. That's not an issue. Use whatever fits your needs.

i'm wired to be unproductive on windows so i use it as my time wasting os, vidya, animu, youtube shitposting etc. I use linux on my laptop since thats where i am productive

>krita

It's easy and intuitive to use,i don't want to waste time learning commands that do things that can be easily done with a mouse or searching for a program to install that isn't a shitty "open-source" copy.
I'm a CS student and all the people i see using linux all look like idiots who think they are cool

Ardour and LMMS are the only real free ones.
Bitwig and Renoise are good, but not free.

It’s mostly because laptop-mode sucks ass and the only truly viable power management is TLP + thermald. I get around the same life on Linux with it, depending on workload. The main thing I hated was the fact that on Openbox, videos and stuff wouldn’t keep the screen on. I’d set my laptop down to watch some YouTube on my break at work and it would shut the screen off. Hadn’t tried other WMs since OB is my go-to, eventually I just got tired of it and switched back to Windows 7 since I also needed the MS Office suite and running it in a VM just wasn’t viable.

>i switch my physical sata port to a different HDD every time I want to play games

jesus dude.

I tried Ubuntu and several other but they all had some flaw or incompatibility issue that I could not overcome. Fuck windows. I hate it. But explorer is so good compared to other file managers. I work faster in Windows so I stick without no matter how much pajeets Fuck it up
