*replaces your T420*
>the virgin laptop
>that hinge
>that logo
ARE YOU FUCKING ME RIGHT NOW?
>$1900
Holy fuck. Might as well just get a mac, at least the display is nicer
>Change logo colour
>Return key coloured blue
>Stamp on ANNIVERSARY EDITION 25
>25 isn't even aligned properly
Purfehcshun.
>pay 2 grand for year old CPU and GPU
*smashes on the ground*
But my T420 has a quad core i7 chip in it.
What does Sup Forums think of this guy
>That B key
what language is the keyboard?
tfw applel emojibook has better quality/price
>thinks that soyboy-tier cpu can replace my T420's CHAD 45W CPU
nothing personnel kid
as does my W520, along with 20gb ram and a quadro 1000m and 1080p screen. oh and it only costs $240
Angry autist, but better than Linus Cuck Tips.
>not having 32GB RAM and the 2000M in it
I wonder if the new thinkpads still have the shitty PWM backlight
...
>32gb RAM
literally why
It's the maximum
You don't need more than 8GB anyway
>logo
it could have been worse.
How bad does it throttle?
i7 2720qm in a T420? not at all with repaste and cleaned fan.
>cinnamon
Nice, but too expensive.
>no latch
>no thinklight
>no optical drive
>no ultrabay
>no vga port
OMG U GUISE ITS JUST LIKE THE OLD ONES
Your paying for the packaging really. The box is a mock-up IBM Thinkpad with a light. Inside the box there is a chocolate bar, art book, and a giant trackpoint. Instead of targetting disgruntled customers they decided to target retro hipsters. It is basically a carbon with a proper keyboard slapped on.
At least it has a backlight, apparently
Also why no VGA port? New HP elitebooks still have it
okay, it's like the old ones without bullshit
happy?
>>no latch
Just another thing to break off
>>no thinklight
Redundant (and honestly less effective anyway) with the backlight
>>no optical drive, no ultrabay
This is a reasonable point
>>no vga port
Most laptops don't have them anymore.
But it isn't at all. It really is this .
I will NEVER let Lenovo live this down.
A small Chinese company of enthusiasts took the original T60 chassis and modified it with modern internal components, including customizing the chassis for new ports, calling it the T70:
>high-resolution 4:3 IPS screen (e.g. 1600x1200, 1400x1050, etc.)
>Intel Core i7 HQ CPU (Kaby Lake) (e.g. i7-7700HQ, i7-7300HQ, i7-7820HQ, etc.)
>16GB RAM, upgradable to 32GB
>256GB SSD
The reason for the variations in specs is because they manufacture them in batches. You must pay out the ass for that, right? Taken directly from their specs of one:
>7300HQ + 16GB RAM + NVME 256GB + 1600x1200 UXGA screen = $1350 USD
They also sell the mainboards alone for like $700-800.
FUCK LENOVO. FUCK YOU NIGGERS IN THE ASS. FUCK YOU ALL. I HOPE CHAIRMAN XI HANGS ALL YOU FAGGOTS
He makes some good points about technology but his politics are utter dogshit. Libertarianism is probably the most out-of-touch ideology.
Are you sure? What are your temps like and how is battery life?
>Inside the box there is a chocolate bar, art book,
wtf no way.
Seriously, Google retro ThinkPad unboxing. It is a chocolate keyboard.
Where's the link you faggot
>no VGA port
Because it's made for hipster collectors, not businessmen who need to connect to random old conference room projectors.
Isn't it based on the latest shitpad anyway, just with a different keyboard?
Elitebooks also still have touchpad buttons and not the retarded clickpad.
>the chad tablet
>not coffeelake
My 2760qm doesn't throttle at all
>>no latch
Sucks
>>no thinklight
Keyboard backlight
>>no optical drive
Move on
>>no ultrabay
Sucks, dock port/thunderbolt is not as comfy
>>no vga port
Sucks if you use projectors a lot, but not a deal breaker for me.
Look up 51nb's t70/x62
THIS
>current_year
>dual core
Those bezels, together with the grey plastic makes it look awful
im not gonna buy a thinkpad for $1900 that's barely 35% faster than an i7 t420 from 2011, BEFORE a quad core swap
Will laptop continue working, after peeing on keyboard?
My old Thinkpad survived it, cat decided to pee on it for some reason...
>latches are sturdy
>latches nicer to open and close
>backlight projects instead of illuminates.
>can't read from a piece of paper or sticky notes
>can't see things next to you
>no dim ambient light that doesn't hurt your eyes in the dark
>not everyone has hdmi projectors
>not everyone has hdmi monitors
>implying optical media is never used in current year
>can't swap in extra drives or ports
You can't call it retro if it doesn't have features that actually made ThinkPads unique and appreciated compared to laptops that did not have them. Oh and also soldered CPU/soldered RAM. And 16:9 is inferior to 8:5 and 4:3 and 3:2 of similar resolutions, vertical space is much more important /especially/ for business/development use.
What they would do if they weren't fags is launch a separate ine with those features to target tech businesses/professionals instead of trying to look like a macbook in a buisiness suit.
>needing optical media or extra drives on a small, portable laptop
Even when doing intensive work like rendering a video or anything else that utilizes the entire CPU? What are your temps? Sorry I just have a hard time believing that since everyone else I’ve heard of that did the 2670qm swap says their CPU throttles pretty badly when doing intensive tasks for an extended period of time, or the temps are at least much higher.
i won't buy it, but i think it's cool
it's a hopeful ideal of a political system that can only exist in a high-iq society that we don't have.
>tfw got my slice battery for my t420
fucking christ who knew u can have too much battery
fixed
Looks like that was just something they sent to their tame shills.
I think I'll keep my W530 (Windows) and T420 (CentOS), thanks.
Wait, T410. T420 went to a friend who needed something for school.
I wish they would release a smaller one that isn't so overpriced.
Admit it
It’s shit
It's a sweet ass machine that will make your T420 feel like a midget. Also pic related.
>not understanding the difference between T-series and X-series
>no thinklight
no thanks
they actually put the classic style of keycaps? cool
What's so great about these things anyway? The components and low price ? It's $200 at Walmart. Should I buy one or what's the fuss about these things? Or am I getting memed
I'm curious about swapping in a 45w quad core like that. Also considering a Coreboot and slapping a 3840QM in there, barring the supposed issues with thermal management firmware. Is some new thermal paste, a good fan cleaning, and a beefy heatsink really enough?
it eats battery like fuck but it won't throttle unless you live in the desert or some shit
>$1900
>for a dual core
>when quad cores are standard as of next year
They set this up to fail.
>T420
It's because it's one of the last models before Lenovo fucked up the entire design.
W510 master race!
Ryzen 7 2700U variant when?
I'm happy with my T450s though I'm considering the new AMD Ryzen ThinkPads.
Does anyone have the webm where he smashes a dell laptop?
>tfw you have a T420s
I bought myself T460s this March. Love the thing.
nice dgpu
fag
t430 or go home
>2017 Anno Domini
>garbage 63% sRGB panel on a """"""""""premium"""""""""" laptop
Lelnovo strikes again.
does that have dual battery?
>2 cores
Fix ESC and Suppr button
> No latch
Good point
> No Optical drive
Good point
> No Ultrabay
Very good point
> No VGA port
Decent point
> No Thinklight
Only thing I ever used my thinklight for was to roll joints in the dark... (T61p)
Yeah, it does. It isn't officially consumer replaceable, though. Meaning, both batteries aren't soldered in so you can just unscrew them, but I don't think Lenovo sells genuine batteries for T460s.
Its battery life is pretty average. For my 1920x1080 Nvidia model, it varies from 3 to 8 hours depending on how you're using it and energy-saving settings.
ah, so its not like the t440s which has internal + external.
god damn it lenovo
>drop hinge
YA DUN GOOF'D!!
whats the best way to get rid of the lenovo on the screen bezel? scratch it off?
their new logo font looks like ass
>catering to nostalgiafags as if they were retarded hypsterfags
>2 grand for a dual core
What? I have a T420s and I love it
>no thinklight
Fuck no. Stop shilling. This is literally an overpriced T470 with the meme logo and usable keyboard.
enjoy the lenovo botnet
>240 dollar
Wtf where?
>>no latch
No one needs a fucking latch
>>no thinklight
I never understood why anyone would need a fucking LED on their laptop, but okay.
>>no optical drive
Optical drives have been dead for a decade.
>>no ultrabay
See above.
>>no vga port
VGA is cancer and needs to die already.
>OMG U GUISE ITS JUST LIKE THE OLD ONES
I think the point was to build a thinkpad that adheres to the old aesthetics whilst still being a reasonable laptop that will last you a few years. mission accomplished. fag.
i like it faggot
next
>caring what Sup Forums thinks
tldr
no one cares
ThinkPad Sup Forums Edition
>3.5" / 5.25" hybrid floppy drive
>ZIP drive
>buckling spring mechanical keyboard
>1:1 aspect ratio 4096x4096
>Vega 64 GPU
>Threadripper 1950X
>backpack with water-cooling radiator and 50 Ah battery to get sweet 4 hours of battery life
>VGA
>Parallel port
>6.3" headphone port with audiophile grade preamp
>Privacy screen blinds so you can watch your Chinese girl cartoons
Extremely good quality for a low price point.
Performance isn't that great when compared to the current models but the build quality is incomparable. You can throw this thing down the stairs and it won't even leave a scratch.
They just don't make them like this anymore.
>AMD
but otherwise very yes
>Only thing I ever used my thinklight for was to roll joints in the dark... (T61p)
Try doing that with a backlit keyboard!
I've rolled spliffs in the almost dark (once in moonlight, once ~5 meters away from a fire) but I was on strong acid both times
