Idol trash here.
What's your setup like, user?

Post penguins with headphones

What keyboard is that?

I have a dumb question?
If I get, say HD800s, won't youtube videos sound like absolute shit due to bad quality?

nah mate

Not them, but /mkg/ here
It's a das keyboard, an overpriced piece of shit with the only redeeming feature being the volume knob and media keys.

Oh, I see. I currently have a ducky shine 4 with clears and I regret buying it because white keyboards are a real bitch to keep white. I do quite enjoy the switches, though

Thats the DAS keyboard

Hey user, would you please tell me if the volume nob on that keyboard works with linux? i want a das keyboard but idk if that volume nob on the keyboard works with linux??? thank you

Is that DAS stuff still fingerprint magnet to the max? That one looks like it has a matte finish.

Hey guys. Violently ill after eating a sketchy gyro. The speaker guide will be completed sometime after Christmas. Sorry for the delay.

I'd also like to mention the jbl lsr305s are $179 a pair on massdrop right now. The massdrop version is piano black, matched within 1db of each other for the pair, and comes with a cable to plug them into your motherboards audio jack. Probably the best deal on those monitors currently.

Peace Love and happy holidays. Hope everyone has a merry christmas

What is the second best headphone behind the HD600?

650

If you have flash disabled like a good Sup Forumsentleman, Youtube will default to the HTML5 player. If your browser supports MSE & WebM VP9 (check here: youtube.com/html5?gl=GB ) then you'll get Opus audio, which won't sound like shit.

Feel better soon DiPolar! I hope you have a Merry Christmas!

EQ'd HD650 > HD600

EQ'd HD600 > EQ'd HD650

Nah only memeing. What's your EQ setup like?

I have several different EQ profiles, but most of the time I just tone down the mid-bass. Sometimes increasing sub-bass as well. The amount depends on what I'm watching or listening to.

is there 100% no audible difference between something like a uae23 and odac?

Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate
The texture makes it not so.
Merry xmas, nice deal for murika indeed. I hope santa brings you some schiit or sennheisers. Get well soon.
Both are transparent as far as I know so yeah.

Andromeda guy here, to the user that was wondering if IEMs can match/exceed the soundstage of HD6X0 headphones, the answer is yes. Among IEMs that own(ed), the Andromeda and Jupiter both exceed the HD600 and HD579.
The Polaris is arguably wider (if not about the same as) than the HD 579, which to my ears is wider than the HD 600.
The Echobox Nomad is somewhere inbetween the HD 579 and HD 600.
The Lyra II is roughly the same as the HD 600 (which is good if you like an intimate sound). All of them have separation and imaging as good, if not better, than the HD 600 and HD 579. I have no firsthand experience with the HD 650/6XX or HD 800, so I can't make any calls for you there. All of that being said, there is something organic that I fail to quantify with the sound of open cans that I have yet to experience with any IEM. However, with excellent imaging and soundstage, I can't say that I particularly miss that feeling when using IEMs; maybe it has something to do with knowing that they should be isolating? I don't know, I'm not audiologist. Cheers.
Also
>lol @ Sennheiser and Echobox for using the pointless Hi-Res Audio logo.

The hidef thing is silly indeed.
So, how's the HD600 vs the HD579, now that you've had them for a while?

can you get a trip

Still getting used to both of them. HD 579 definitely has more low-end right out of the box, and feels like it has a warm tilt in comparison. The HD 600 definitely has a cleaner sound, but I'm not sure that it's just the drivers and not the (relatively) more-forward mids and highs. I'll mess around with EQ once I put more time in with them to see what their limits are, but as is, I don't regret buying either one and definitely recommend either one to anyone looking for something within the appropriate parameters.
How can you not recognize Idol trash? He (?) has a very recognizable posting style, and if he got a trip, people would just sperg. No trip needed.

i can't filter avatarfagging

>How can you not recognize Idol trash?
he does, it's one of the two no headphone anons. he wants idol trash to trip so he can filter

Oh. Well, I can't help you there. I guess just hide the posts one by one, disable pictures while viewing the thread or leave /hpg/?
Idol trash gonna Idol, man.

if only the shitty moderators actually enforced the rules of the website.

Encourage him to post scantily-clad penguin bitches, that seems to get the mods into action.

Maybe if you weren't such a Negative Nancy here every day, his posts wouldn't trigger you so much.

yes let's just ignore rulebreaking in our hugbox general that encourages autistic behavior

pretty sure caring about rules on Sup Forums is more autistic

Your shitty attitude here daily bothers me far more than he does

We could always drown it out with actual discussion. Is there anyone here still looking for recommendations for headphones to get people for Christmas? The time is dwindling, so you should probably ask sooner rather than later.

unfortunately for you 'triggering special snowflakes' isn't against the rules.

I want to lick her feet.

it's hilarious how not following the rules triggers you. go to reddit if that's the case

it's just a convenient way to either get the autist to be slightly less autistic or to get rid of him entirely.

do you consider yourself to be autistic?

compared to him? far from it. compared to the average person? probably, i'm on Sup Forums.

I mean the average 4channer. you're sitting here every day gatekeeping. do you think that is autism?

Holy shit headphones you fags! Quit whinging about meta if you hate meta!
Let me start you with a topic: What headphones are you most excited about? Classics, current releases, prototypes at tradeshows...what would you want most in this world if there was no barrier to getting it?

If I currently had zero headphones and infinite monies, I would choose the headphones I already own: MDR-MA900

gatekeeping is what kept Sup Forums from becoming 9gag for years
>What headphones are you most excited about?
LCD2C, even though I don't plan on getting them. the distortion figures are estat level and as long as audeze have sorted out of their quality control they are very good value, especially at the no man's land price point. i'd be somewhat excited for the HD 820 if they weren't ugly as sin and closedback.

Noice, I'm glad that you like them!
What if, though? 820 could end up being the best closed cans we've ever seen, and just because they're closed doesn't mean that there isn't an open refresh in the works. I'm still intrigued about the 2C myself, but I want to demo Audeze before I'm willing to drop that money. Also, might need a stronger amp to drive them (aren't most of the Audeze units a bit thirsty?).

they've already done the open refresh, notice the black theme with the HD 800 S, HDV 820 and now HD 820. plus they'd have to be very good to be worth their price assuming it's around the HD 800 S because the Aeon Flow are very good and much cheaper.

Anyone here go in on that Focal Elex over at Massdrop? I was tempted, but I want to wait and see if they live up to the build and sound quality Focal is known for. Massdrop stuff always makes me a bit leery for some reason...

bought a pair of the HD579 while they were on sale. they arrived today. for music they sound bretty good.

for anything else, especially dialogue, they sound like muddy shit. kinda disappointed. i guess it's probably just that i'm so used to reference cans.

hope i can wear into them.

EQ the mid-bass

Give 'em time, I think you'll be pleased. I find that going from reference to something with bass a bit north of neutral takes an adjustment period. Alternately, if you come to find that you still think they're too dark, you can EQ like said.

Newfag here, am i doing it right?

Hearing impaired guy here who also has hearing aids. I've been looking into getting some good headphones but I wouldn't know what would be a good brand as my hearing isn't the greatest.

I don't like the way IEM 'image' in you head, some people say HD600 has a very in your head imaging but with IEM it's worse, it can be wide but it will be entirely localised within your kitchen.

i might end up doing that. they aren't super offensive though, so i think i'll give some time to try and adjust to them first.

i definitely like the light weight and love way they fit and as i said for music they do sound quite good. i will give them some time before a final verdict.

Maybe stretch your bux a lil and go for the DT770 80 ohm or Custom Studio? Otherwise Status CB-1 might be a good look for you.
Fellow mild hearing loss guy here (worked on a flightline for years). Your ears will do best with low and mid-forward sounds (easiest for your ears to hear), but don't discount things that are treble-heavy, too. Having mild-to-moderate hearing damage means that a lot of your treble sensitivity goes out the window compared to people with normal hearing.

Waiting for the second wave of them, or when it becomes a massdrop made exclusive that you can buy whenever. It certainly looks sweet, and it would be cool to own an endgame product, but as of right now I'm focusing on other aspects of my life and my main audio money sink will always be speakers.

After new years I'll start my lxmini build. I ordered a 4 channel Carver amp to use with it. I'll be a/bing between the Carver amp and 2 bedini class A stereo amps we use at my work. I want to see if amplifier biasing classification is just a meme or if there is a significant difference in quality between the two.

do your headphones crackle while listening to this?

youtube.com/watch?v=sZQzOIAKTqI&feature=youtu.be&t=127

What IEMs have you listened to that gave you this impression? I don't seem to have the same issue with the models I listed (except for the Lyra II, which like I said, is pretty intimate. Good depth but width is like a smaller room more than out in the open or a performance hall. Some people compare it be more like a jazz club or bar).

Are you feeling better post-gyro freakout? Be sure to let us know your results once you get the chance to A/B, and looking forward to your speaker starter guide!

no

did u watch until the end?

if so what specs do your phones have

Yes. HD650

Same

convince me not to get lsr305s

don't get swans m200mkIII

see
Unless there's specific reason that they wouldn't meet your requirements (like needing more low-end response), I see no reason why you shouldn't.

which actual specs on the technical page of headphones relates to not crackling to too much base

is it the higher frequency? if so whats the amount you should get to make sure shitty rap songs or pornvids dont fuck up your speakers

I just ordered some KZ-ATE, what other chi-fi headphones are worth buying?

Crackle would be the result of either poor source material, bad distortion or a poor connection, I imagine.
ZS5 & ZS6 were FOTM for a grip. I've never tried them myself, though.

Neither of those are going to mess up your speakers. I don't know why you're hearing crackling. What headphones are you using? Do you hear the same crackling on both sides?

but doesnt the crackle fuck up the speakers themselves? or no?

any headphones, once a certain level of bass or distortion has been introduced then any time a deep tone is heard it will crackle, where as prior to going too far it would just produce a smooth bass sound

Unless you're feeding them waaaaay too much power (doubtful) or exceeding the drivers intended output, I don't see how playing a crackle sound would damage a speaker..

My Xiaomi Piston 2's died a little today, the right bud is now very quiet compared to the normal sound level of the left for some reason. Short of fixing them, I would please like an opinion on these two products and if it's worth paying more for the HD one.

pbtech.co.nz/product/HSTMIX13113/Xiaomi-Mi-In-Ear-Headphones-Pro---Gold---A-richer

that what i mean since i dont have an amp or a audio reciever i have to use the windows "loudness equalizer" which boosts the audio and then in something like VLC can i boost to 200%

but how do i know how much frequency/power that actually is to know that x-phones will always be able to sustain that without distorting

What are your headphones plugged into? It might be the onboard sound on your motherboard.

What speakers are you running? Are they just powered by your PC via USB or something?

this, don't buy swans they're shit

So what actually makes headphones sound good? The wiki explains what the numbers mean, yet you can have headphones that apparently differ in these numbers by hardly anything at all and while one is a $5 pair of earbuds, the other is a $600 pair of studio headphones. Driver quality and materials, shape of the inside of the headphones to help with acoustics? Diaphragm material and shape? I'm asking because I'm curious in theory what fundamental changes are made from one "level" to the next, what is the primary difference between cheap headphones and good ones, or is it just a compound affect of lots of small changes?

yes they are powered by my PC i use my PC as the audio reciever and the audio jack, analog on the back comes out to my headphones

i have Sennheiser PCX95

>what is the primary difference between cheap headphones and good ones
price, hence placebo effect and expectation bias. in a perfect world the differences would be superior sound quality in the more expensive headphone due to the use of more expensive, necessary materials to achieve better audio and more time put into r&d/tooling/labor

>or is it just a compound effect of lots of small changes
Bingo. Materials used, tuning, engineering of housing/cup...all of these things can affect the qualities of a headphone's sound, and not by a narrow margin. Another factor most people don't consider is that your ears (their shape as well as any hearing loss you have incurred through injury/exposure/age/genetics) play a role, as does your brain and its reaction to sound. Your taste in music genres can help dictate what tunings (more bass, more treble, all mids, etc) you prefer as well. While we tend to recommend neutral/balanced headphones as a rule of thumb, the truth is that there are a lot of people like a colored response more than a truly neutral response.
tl;dr, a whole lot of shit. That's why we can't just say "buy this" and make everyone happy.

Another thing to note about price is (especially from smaller, boutique-y manufacturers) that most of it comes from R&D. You have to price as high as a customer will pay to recoup your costs if you aren't guaranteed to sell a whole boatload of a given model. That doesn't guarantee that they will sound better, that's just trying to stay in the black. Also, if people are willing to pay it, you can charge whatever you want. Why make less than the market sets your value at?

I have the MSR7's and they're great but I can't sleep with them on and the ps4 controller doesn't give them enough power

the ones from massdrop look even more glossy than the regular ones and i hate the glossy look

tthe regular ones aren't glossy at all

well ok i guess ill cop the regular ones. after taxes the ones from massdrop come out to $193 and b&h has them for $200 a pair no taxes.

sorry i forgot the ring around the driver was glossy but if you really care that much you could probably paint over it/sand it down

that doesn't bother me as much as the glossy cabinet does

HD580
Kanna and Kumiko a cute. A cute!

you know it

Anyone?

Looking at getting my first pair of headphones that isn't a gaymen headset.
I'm not too picky about audio quality as long as it's decent. I mainly want something comfortable enough to wear for long periods and durable enough to use every day without breaking a year or two later.

I'm eyeing the ATH-M50x, but are there any others within the same price(

Hello Sup Forums, my MDR-7506s literally just fell apart, one side is hanging by a wire. I need a new pair. I'd like something in a similar pricerange, comfortable as possible since I wear them almost all the time, but I think sound quality is more important than comfort.
Should I order another pair of the Sonys or is there one you guys would recommend over them?

>Hello Sup Forums, my MDR-7506s literally just fell apart, one side is hanging by a wire.
How the hell you manage that? Those are some of the more well-built headphones.

pls i need help

Im looking for something to take with me when im traveling and these caught my eye. does anyone know anything about these cans? never heard of the company before. ive watched a few reviews and i just wanted a second opinion

Their crappy amps hiss.

GR07 Classic.

I dunno man, I think it might have been prolonged years of having one side off my ear so my gf wouldn't get mad at me for not being able to hear her
