Can someone explain to me why good sites keep dying? RomDepot was a site created by some user on /vr/ that had huge collection of roms for every system with no captcha, its own search engine, fast downloads and complete rom sets. It was clean and amazing to use. Now the site is constantly under DDoS or something with short periods of resurgence.
A week ago I got DMCA claim on a content I shared only on Sup Forums in a single thread. The report was filed from the author of the book using his personal mail. I own the physical copy of book, and how I decide to share a digital copy(my backup) its none of your god damn business.
There was a time when super secret clubs were actually attracting people in order to get as much content and traffic as possible but now its the other way around, nobody gets in unless you suck enough dick or know people personally. Everyone else gets ddosed to death because muh street cred and my dedicated "web development" staff.
Warez was flourishing once, now people are snitching on each other for what exactly?
>A week ago I got DMCA claim on a content I shared only on Sup Forums in a single thread. >The report was filed from the author of the book using his personal mail. >I own the physical copy of book, and how I decide to share a digital copy(my backup) its none of your god damn business. lel wut, who takes the time to browse /lit/ and find people sharing their works post pic of dmca
Brody Brooks
>DMCA When will people learn that hosting content on US servers is just plain stupid?
Josiah Hughes
It was posted on /vr/ not /lit/ Its a coffee table book with little to no value. Also I guess it was received a little over a week ago.
Is MEGA based in US?
Caleb Martinez
probably some cock sucker reported it to the author, it's pretty easy to get stuff taken down from mega though
Aiden Watson
Thats why I made my page long post,DMCA rules were always enforced on every host ever but people are going out of their way to report obscure content. What changed so much that everyone became a snitch?
Xavier Kelly
>full US PS1 shit, is there like no way of reaching it now? got hashes of the torrents?
Mason Perry
Unironically moralfags gained the upper hand. It's just another side effect of the normiezation of the Internet.
Carson Thomas
normies started flowing in en masse
Landon Wright
Its not a torrent site though just a regular http download thing. Writing an email to the owner right now because I want to get to the bottom of this and if its possible to answer me why he hasn't setup a mirror domain.
Jayden Ortiz
correction * i dont know if the rom sets were torrented everything else was regular download
Kayden Ramirez
I looked up the site weeks ago, and leddit links were popping up on search results. Mongoloids started posting it on some subreddits, it was bound to happen, they're monitored to hell.
Nolan Young
>Now the site is constantly under DDoS or something with short periods of resurgence. Wasn't there some massive crackdown on ROMs of old games from companies like Nintendo etc recently?
John Roberts
yes on the major rom sites like Emu paradise,CoolROM and Iso Zone but everyone else was fine especially these obscure ones.
Lincoln Kelly
The problem is reddit. People, most of whom started here before reddit existed, use reddit and they leak all the good things Sup Forums gives birth to. This results in moralfags and or Normie's ruining whatever it is or having it shut down. Also companies ddos to protect their copyrights.
David Adams
>but everyone else was fine especially these obscure ones. some corporate drone could've just reported muh illegal activity for good boy points to "support his favourite videogame company"
Ethan King
>It was posted on /vr/ not /lit/
People post ebooks on Sup Forums? I need in on this. Also,
>Its a coffee table book with little to no value.
That shit triggered me, of course it has value, that is why you decided to share it jesus titty fucking christ.
Jaxon Cruz
That fucking punk!
Carson Brooks
The author is not a professional writer. He is a 40yo man with no kids and has never been married. His existence boils down down to collecting nes games and having youtube channel. The "book" is on par with something a kid would write in their spare time with no information and all the spelling mistakes as well as watered down information. Lot of pictures though, and that makes it a coffee table book. Its an oddity and something I would share with another person. You cant dictate what I can and cant do with the thing I own. Now go back to the hole you came from.
Robert Harris
Not a native English person so you would excuse the mistakes.
Evan Brown
I will tell him to go turn it back on and link him the thread, the rom depot is still alive senpai
Jordan Long
You can share your physical book not a digital cooy you didn't scanned yourself faggotron
Hudson Thomas
Why would you need a site like that anyways? Download ROMsets and back them up locally.
Noah Kelly
Im not in position to download whole sets unfortunately. Yes I know its not a lot of bandwidth but I have other reasons for it. It was a simple way to download a rom fast with no ads, waiting timers or captcha to play a game or two. Noting more nothing less and it was all I needed.
Oliver Thomas
How should you go about for getting ddos protection
Ok so number two is a solid hosting service we have that is there anyone else other then cloudflare? what is the best bang for buck?
Jason Moore
Good god man, get a hold of yourself and your self important attitude. Who cares if the author is a professional writer or not and who in the fuck gives a shit about his personal life, as if being a 40 year old guy with no kids unwed detracts from his value as a person , you must be a woman if you think this way. His existence may be much more fulfilling than yours. I don't care what you do with things that you own, but to say it has no value is an obvious lie even to yourself, you took the time to read it/look at it and even share it, so it has value. People say "the room" is an absolute shit movie, but lots of people love it, taste is subjective and what you don't like someone else will. But you are an absolute judgmental fuck judging others while spending time on Sup Forums /vr/ not looking at yourself in the mirror
Adrian Hill
His marital situation speaks volumes about his personality. Not only that but he publicly admited of price gouging intentionally a game on ebay and profited immensely form it. The person is a scammer and a thief and yet he has the balls to call outher people out through legal claims. Bottom line is that you cant dictate what I do with the stuff I own. fuck the right off
Noah Hernandez
I'm the owner of the rom depot. My buddy sent me this thread. I honestly didn't know it had such a following. The server is turned off right now. I shut it down last night because of high internet usage and it was affecting my speeds. I work for a cable company and can get free internet. I will put in the request for another modem and dedicate my business internet to the depot so if there is high usage, I won't notice. My apologies for it constantly going down. Now that I know people actually enjoy and use it, I'll try much harder to keep it running. Thanks for understand.
Nicholas Wright
OP here. I sent you a mail an hour ago. You are doing gods work, keep it up and thanks for the amazing site.
Owen Lewis
I'm also at work right now and will not be home for another 11 hours. I will turn it on as soon as possible.
Logan Peterson
Is this bait?
Jacob Watson
will be waiting

Please go back to /vr/, this place is not for tech illiterates, you have your containment boards for that, Sup Forums and /vr/.
Jaxson Jones
Emails are down too, I'll be sure to check it out when I get home. Again sorry for it constantly going down. I thought the high usage was caused by crawlers and bots. Not actual users.
Juan Watson
>but I have other reasons for it. >it's another "/vr/ will shit on me if I download sets" episode
Leo Brooks
>Oh, he's just a retard. Because i use other boards besides Sup Forums? Because I share content with people that share my hobby? Do I also post cert books on /lit/? Please
Kayden Butler
I don't care what /vr/ kids have to say,the reasons are my own.
Easton Sullivan
>Warez was flourishing once, now people are snitching on each other for what exactly? My guess would be that what you know about the "old days" is only from other people and wikipedia and you have no idea about anything. Else you wouldn't ask such dumb questions or act like a ignorant self centered dumbass.
Robert Garcia
Also quick question. What country are you guys from? I had a bad problem with web crawlers from all over and banned a lot of countries. If you let me know I'll unblock those countries.
Christopher Wright
god bless you user
Henry Richardson
No. Because you think that a DMCA claim is not okay when you think that if you bought a copy of a physical book and scanned it and shared it is not copyright infringement. Com'on, you say it was a small author, you are literary stealing bread from him. This isn't some corporate jewish conspiracy.
If you think he's wrong and stupid in the first place, why do you even own his book?
Caleb Perry
I am really sorry if you were obstructed by secret clubs but I never had a problem finding good sharing communities without the attitude. At least for my needs at the time.
Lucas Howard
>At least for my needs at the time. Son, you weren't even born.
Chase Bailey
Isn't there a way to filter these crawlers instead of range banning whole countries? I mean you can do that to China but everyone else should "behave".
Jace Howard
>how I decide to share a digital copy(my backup) its none of your god damn business That is not remotely how the law works dumbass

>you say it was a small author I agree with this Even warez sites discourage that, like refusing to share the Planet X2 game from 8-Bit Guy freely
>his marital situation speaks volumes about his personality underage faggot detected

more like a woman detected am i right
Dominic Jackson
literally using kids "insults"
Nathan Martinez
if you say so bud

Always download redump.org ROMs when possible since they adhere to standards for the purpose of digital preservation - probably the most important reason to have ROMs.
I know GazelleGames usually has redump versions of games, not sure about elsewhere.
Michael Stewart
GazelleGames lacks a lot of content that is not mainstream enough. People shared Project Melancholia patch for SD Snatcher on /vr/ but on GazelleGames there is only the demo version.
Austin Scott
what was the book you tried to share?
Owen Rogers
Ultimate Nintendo: Guide to the NES Library
Come again? Just because the scene is dead that doesn't mean people stopped sharing.
Jack Reed
>I own the physical copy of book, and how I decide to share a digital copy(my backup) its none of your god damn business. You are so wrong.

Doing God's work, user.
Matthew Ward
I used to have all pre-2002 PC games and console roms on my PC from Underground Gamer.
But eventually I deleted them to keep myself from hoarding. In hindsight it's a bit of a shame, now Underground Gamer has gone away.
Isaac Gray
They are not gone but larping as ultra secret club behind a fake front page and all.
Thats for US and ma or may not be limited to one state. Now show me international law forbidding me to share the things i own.
Cooper Rodriguez
Copyright law dictates that purchasing a copy of a work, such as a book, scientific journal, magazine or a newspaper, does not give the buyer the right to make any copyright-sensitive use of that work (even though it gives the buyer the right to dispose of the purchased copy however she wants to) – meaning that, although the purchased copy may be read or otherwise enjoyed, and may be re-sold, given away or destroyed, the work embodied in the copy may not be reproduced, publicly performed or otherwise used within the scope of the copyright law.
In the case where a copyright-sensitive use needs to be made (such as a reproduction for business use), permission can usually be obtained:
directly from the rightsholder from a third party organization that has been authorized by the rightsholder to grant the permission on his or her behalf.
In some countries, that permission is granted by law (a “legal license”) in exchange for a designated payment.
Xavier Harris
The book was not reproduced,it was backed up. By your definition I am also banned from from backing up 20yo CDs because of the impending disc rot. Unless you can enforce the things you post I suggest you don't take partial copyright notice snippets from the internet.
And I will continue to distribute the book to anyone's request because Im just that kind of sharing person.
Eli Long
>The book was not reproduced,it was backed up. Jesus, you ARE retarded.
Isaac Miller
just upload it to another site like libgen or something
Blake Torres
>Can anyone explain why corporate america is fighting tooth and nail to monetize the internet and eliminate all alternatives?
Brandon Davis
Im not the one quoting Wikipedia articles sweetie, you are the one larping as copyright lawyer.
Ayden Ramirez
>implying a backup is not a reproduction
The brainlet is strong with this one.
Jayden Kelly
Lets leave the semantics to the professionals shall we fellow brainlet
Luis Perry
>if the autor of a book is someone I don't like or not worthy of my praise, his copyright is invalidated Did you catch the 'tards, son?
Jackson Myers
Did you?
Wyatt Brown
No, because I am able to understand the concept "Intellectual property", you don't though.
It's ok, you're probably some random nobody who won't ever make anything worthy of being copyrighted so you don't need to understand shit, you're basically a parasite with its head so deep into his ass he can't even accept he's doing wrong to the copyright holder.
Logan Johnson
>unironically *you are dead kiddo* kek Meanwhile I will continue to spread information freely for everybody. Thanks for taking the time to reply, now you can close the thread and continue with your life.
Daniel Roberts
>hehe look i laf @ u >hehe i continue to steal and call it le freedom xD
I'm so glad I'm not this retarded. I'm probably a bigger "pirate" than you, but at least I don't do mental gymnastics and accept that what I do is not right.
Jonathan Moore
>I own the physical copy of book, and how I decide to share a digital copy [citation needed] It's common knowledge that distributing a copyrighted work without permission is a violation of intellectual property laws in nearly every country. If you want to make the unlikely claim that you somehow get the legal right to distribute restricted copyrighted material yourself, you're going to need to provide a citation proving it.
Daniel Gutierrez
I am not classifying myself as a pirate buddy,I don't have any delusions unlike you. Unless you can come here and stop me from spreading the things I have, you will remain on snarky anonymous comments.
Justin Evans
Op you are a so far up your own ass its ridiculous. I don't give a shit what you do with your shit but as soon as you try to justify and take the moral high ground for sharing somebody's work illegally because you like making gross assumptions of what little you know of their personality, then you can fuck right off. >he's a 40yo single guy, he obviously has no value what the fuck? Are you his exwife or something or just one of these kids these days walking around regurgitating all kinds of dogma from somebody long since dead? >he sold a videogame at an inflated price boo fucking hoo, the majority of sellers would do the same thing. he threw it out there for a ridiculous price and some idiot bought it, this happens all the time. If you're gonna blame somebody blame the faggot that bought it.
Christopher Nelson
Listen man, I don't care if you illegally share copyrighted works. More power to you.
Just don't pretend like it's somehow legal.
Benjamin Phillips
>hoard hundreds copies of an item >create fake scarcity >make youtube video how the game is rare on ebay >price hikes >make another video detailing your actions >its ok because op is far up his own ass
mhm
Jace Carter
Yes well not everything is black and white even in the law. If you are dead set following rules to the letter more power to you.
Kayden Flores
Did your mother drop you on your head?
Nolan Thompson
actually yes
Hunter Cook
I'll host mirrors on gigabit with 20gbps DDoS mitigation if you need desu
Evan Carter
>cloudbleed
Adam Wilson
No, not everything is, but this aspect of copyright law is well known and it always goes the same way. Again, I don't care whether or not you follow the law. I violate copyright law all the time, I just don't pretend like what I'm doing is legal.
Mason Jackson
Where I live nonprofit private filesharing is legal. There's even a copyright tax on data storage for this reason.
Levi Edwards
Why didn't you just say that in the beginning? What country do you live in?
Andrew Rodriguez
