Looking for a good gaming laptop for school. 17inch screen is a necessity. Horse power is needed, as I will be installing Ubuntu and running steam on that. Price is also a concern. I don't care if you suggest a setup that is a few years old, just as long as it is good quality and is cheap. I can go up to $1000, but lets try to go for $500 - $700 range.

>that nerd always bringing a huge ass gaming laptop to school
>17inches

Seinor year with a 3.98 GPA. But I guess I never finished a tech class, huh?
Absoloutly. But you guys aren't my text support. I just want to know what you guys would have suggested. I might settle for an Rog 2014 laptop.

Just get a desktop and a cheap laptop instead of that unwieldy thing.

this op, ur retarded. u'd be lucky if you scavenge a used gaymer plastic laptop that can run demanding games at ~35fps 1080p for that money
this is probably as good as it gets
Finally, someone who is not a cucktard.
That is not bad, and I might get that. What about this one, though?

Asus makes really bad laptops. Stay away.
Well, you're not wrong. I used t have an EEE PC back in the day. Thing blew up.
This one is really looking good, but is it a potato in disguise?
dell.com
ew no, you probably won't be able to even launch the game with that graphics card,
the gpu is the most important part for games
try to get a laptop with either a:
gtx 965m < 1050 < 970m < 1050ti < 1060
the 900 series is less power efficient and hotter but is usually cheaper
NO ITS A POTATO, STOP PICKING LAPTOPS WITH REALLY SHIT GPU, YOU WONT BE ABLE TO PLAY GAMES
follow this rule
gtx 965m < 1050 < 970m < 1050ti < 1060
anything else is complete garbage, will either set your computer on fire or is really shit
use this website
gpu.userbenchmark.com
to compare graphics cards,
850m/950m/960m/860m/gt 1030 is the absolute minimum
MAYBE I DON'T WANT TO RUN SKYRIM ON EVERY COMPUTER I OWN
you said horsepower
on the computers you suggested, you'd only be able to play minecraft, csgo etc
G is not your tech support reeeeereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks. Heating is a big concern, which is why I opted for gaming. These setups are usually good at keeping things from over heating, which Ubuntu is likely to do.
17 inch is just not realistic unless you want to sacrifice allot
Got me
NVIDIA GeForce GTX965M 2GB GDDR5 Discrete?
>for school
What your needs are entirely depends on what kind of school you would be going to.
>ubuntu and running steam on that
What kind of classes require that?
>17" screen is a necessity
Why?
>few years old
>$700
You seem to provide a lot of requirements that doesn't make sense.
Why don't you use a desktop at home for games and a cheaper laptop for school use?
Even if you live in a tiny apartment, this still makes the most sense.
If you are this confused about what you need, why not wait until you know what you need?
A gaming laptop is going to cost you a lot of money and that is a bad thing because you will be laughed at for a long time.
>get a "gaming" laptop for school
>hurr durr guys watch me play some steam games
>takes notebook to class to take notes
>battery dead after 5 minutes
Actually, why do we hate Asus?
gaming laptop for school?
read some fucking books instead of gaming you millenial fuck
Bad eyes. Can't read books.
stop playing so many video games then.
You'll regret it, 17 is basically portable desktop tier. If possible, build a desktop and use a smaller cheaper laptop. I'd recommend the x220 or x230.
Get a Thinkpad lol
