Can someone tell me why cyberpunk was bundled with 'sec'? Guessing cyberpunk thread itself had no legs to stand on, by its own.
Brody Stewart
IIRC both were semi-empty before the merge
Wyatt Cook
Shit. So I actually got a request for a phone interview for a paid cybersecurity internship. I've taken a couple of cybersecurity classes at uni, but fuck if I don't remember much since it was almost two years ago now.
Any tips on what concepts, specific tools to review before the interview? I vaguely remember using wireshark, nmap, kali, metasploit. This is a good opportunity for me to stop being a useless neet, pls help.
Luke Hughes
neither had, but the aestetic fits in quite well imho
Benjamin Martinez
>FAQ Yay!
The reason is that /sec/ is part of /cyb/ even though the reverse is not always true. Also the traffic in each was to low to sustain two threads without immediately falling off the edge.
So far it has worked well though it means we always get a mini troll protesting the merger, every time.
Jackson Walker
congratz, mate. depending on how much time you've got, grab the book bundle in the OP and read at least the ToC of the sec related books - that may help to get your memory going. then read into the topics you're a little wobbly in. If you have some more time - which I hope you have - smash some boot2root

Just passed my CISSP this morning, going into it I had no idea that they just switched the exam format from linear to CAT (starting from the 18th of this month). By the end of the exam I was in complete despair and had resigned myself to fail. Afterwards when they gave me the print out I couldn't understand how it was possible that I passed until reading up on how CAT works and realizing that by design you only will only get around 50% of the questions right. Definitely a roller coaster of a day but for any of you guys who are going to take the CISSP exam do read up on CAT beforehand so you don't have a panic attack during the exam.
Eli Fisher
thanks for the heads-up. What does CAT stand for in that context anyway? I'm not familiar with it
Josiah Rodriguez
Well that'll buy us some years..
Liam Cook
computerized adaptive testing, basically when you get a question right the next one increases in difficulty and inversely if you get a question wrong the next one decreases in difficulty. At the end of the exam your score is not based on the percentage of questions you got right vs wrong but on the level of difficulty of the questions you were able to answer correctly. youtube.com/watch?v=T4J_z8CDW9A
Parker Stewart
semirelated, would a taser work against such constructs? I mean, there's a lot of conductive looking pipes and insulated wires. would you even be able to discharge through the signal lanes without prior damage?
Gabriel Reyes
I'm tired of work as consultant in infosec, 90% of projects are document gathering and fill requirements. I want to break something now

How then will Google stop ad blockers and AdNauseam?
Luis Smith
I have worked so hard to de-google my life but my school makes me use it.

ads are the same as drm as is security in general - It'll always be a cat and mouse game

With killer bots there would be more BRAKKA BRAKKA.
Adam Cooper
Is that even possible? I think about using searx.me for web search, what do you use?
Not sure, but robots are usually grounded and would probably have some plating (maybe even some plastic stuff because of better radar/heat properties). So I woulnd't count on it.
Christian Wright
I can no longer load Sup Forums on desktop because hiro thinks I'm an archive bot with all my extensions and blocked my home IP. Anywhere else aside from IRC you guys post?

Don't lie user. You ARE an archive bot, aren't ya?

I'm looking for a music-identifying app, and am godawfully suspicious of Shazam. Does anybody know anything, either on the Play Store or F-Droid?
Lincoln Fisher
Congrats. I'd recommend that you start off by reading the internship posting's requirements very carefully and then studying the areas you have gaps in. Google is your friend.
What degree did you graduate with? I assume you've been NEET since graduating two years ago?
Evan Clark
shazam got bought by apple so at least not botnetting for someone else. another one that gave good results was soundhound
Justin Anderson
It IS 100% possible! Once I'm done with school I won't have to use Google anymore. I use Duckduckgo.
Between that, IRC, Tox, Mumble, Diaspora, NNTPchan, torrents, Litecoin, Monero, Tomb, I2P, Tor, and a Librebooted laptop running Trisquel, I feel pretty comfy.
I never post in these threads or look at any of these links but cyberpunk is a state of mind. It's not political, not meant to make you join some cause and become a drone. It's a collection of people that enjoy the aesthetic and idea of a dystopian society that has breathtaking cityscapes and futuristic technology with cyborg people walking around.
Dominic Cox
just curious: what is the least botnetted way to use a smartphone? including stuff like mic + camera delete also: what is the best/most cyb way to use a phone in general? (including old and modern dumbphones/feature-phones)
Noah Kelly
Not carrying one with you
Asher James
man, i just got my Mac, in information systems security. Im having a hard time finding employment but i drill myself on labs and things wireshark, cali. and havesecurity+...why the fuck am i having such a hard time? especially when i want to practice policy development/ risk management. Also have Security +....i feel like i know what needs to happen as far as policy and info management goes in the name of security, but how would i get into consulting? I'm weird and actually love documentation.
Jason Russell
>Oh yeah, they have all your complete search history as well. And GoogleMail. And GoogleDocs.. Old news but people seem to forget easily. Chrome is also spying on you regularly, it tries to phone home every few minutes, you can see the difference in your firewall log running FF for a hour and then running Chrome, while FF only phones home to get addons updates once when it starts, Chrome does it even without addons all the time while it's running.
Colton Cooper
This is why I made myself switch to waterfox. btw does anyone know why the "Magic Actions for Youtube" addons cinema mode doesn't work on waterfox 56

Does anyone remember the url of /cyb/ geocoties website? I wanted to explore it on archive.org but I can't remember the full url.
>noecities Yes that one... no wonder it didn't show up in the search results. Thanks.
Oliver Cook
It really is a goldmine. Did OP include the informations from Cyberlife in the OP links? I haven't had time to explore everything in the new OP yet.
Samuel Evans
What do you use for a phone?
Adrian Bennett
Link broken for anyone else?
Grayson Cooper
The website doesn't exist anymore.
Luis Clark
It looks similar to jinteki industries
Levi Carter
>Did OP include the informations from Cyberlife in the OP links No, I don't think so. There's plenty that's not included, also stuff that used to be in the OPs a few years back.
Cameron Murphy
>jinteki It's probably the same site, what's jinteki's new url? I found the .tk one there on cyberlife in a later snapshot on archive.org but it's dead.
Owen Sanders
.industries
Camden Perry
It really is the same, that's great. I thought it was dead forever.
Jaxon Fisher
>Does anyone remember the url of /cyb/ geocoties website? I wanted to explore it on archive.org but I can't remember the full url. >I wanted to explore it on archive.org but I can't remember the full url. >I wanted to explore it on archive.org >explore it on archive.org >archive.org

So I imagine OP text is missing all jinteki-related stuff too. If OP is lurking, I recommend to check these old threads: rbt.asia/g/search/text/jinteki/type/op/

watched some daddy snowden talks and a vid of that linux lunduke guy and I don‘t feel safe using my phone anymore feels like every single thing I buy, google, text or whatever is very public would like to know what one can do except ofc reducing phone use...still need it to some extend tho
Blake Taylor
Snowden is a paid shill at this point.

Hi FBI. Android + Signal, Antox, I2P.
Jackson Cox
While it is on the net it has not been updated for a long while, which is why there were questions about the person behind it in the last thread.
Matthew Williams
>▶ >But if you like the aesthetics of jinteki.industries, then dangeru.us might be for you? I had a look at dangeru.us and found it rather strange. IS it about some kind of communal story writing in the spirit of the old Chatsubo?
>I honestly don't feel like shilling some obscure niche boards too much. What is wrong with niche or obscure?
Kevin Jones
I thought Andoid had some security issues that were leaked a short while ago? Can't remeber the source unfortunately..
It's literally discussed in the last thread:
Blake Kelly
It is the site of another former Lainchan dude, IIRC.
There's nothing wrong with obscure boards, but there's a delicate balance between "too small to exist" and "too big to be comfy". You know, we all want to feel special and go to places where no one else goes.. ;)
Isaiah Sanders
Note that this faggot was put on the FCC by Obama, Trump just appointed him as the head. But no, it probably wouldn't have happened. Also note that the majority of Americans, Democraps and Republicunts, opposed Pai's decision. I think it was around 70% disapproval from both sides, Democrats obviously a bit higher. And yes, everything is for money in this corporatocracy we call home. The American government's corruption has certainly never been so blatant; they don't even try to hide it.
Dylan Hall
you guys still talking about NN? the only reason it‘s a bad idea to oppose it, is because of the lack of competition caused by the massive regulations and corporatism already in place amerifats already fucked themselves long before this
Leo Jenkins
Does the canvas blocker addon for Firefox brake sites for anyone else? For example archive.orgs search would not work with it enabled.
Justin Smith
Is Snowden a traitor/criminal, a hero/ourguy, or something in between?
Mason Butler
/ourguy/
Liam Harris
I think it's pretty obvious that he only got disadvantages from that leak. I think "hero" is a little bit fat fetched, but it was a good thing to do and not everybody could have done it.
So this:
Jayden Gutierrez
Apart from fame, including the admiration (and hate) of many, which is a consolation at the very least.
Daniel Bell
>It is the site of another former Lainchan dude, IIRC. I had no idea it fragmented into that many shards. So why didn't they come here, or if not to the alt.cyberpunk newsgroup which is perhaps the oldest (semi) active forum for /cyb/ ?
Cameron Barnes
...
Aaron Powell
According to Snowden itself, you should physically remove the camera, mic, and speakers. I just removed the front-camera from my phone desu, it's too berzerk to remove everything.
Joshua Richardson
>and speakers Why also speakers? I can understand why camera and microphone are troublesome but speaker is more unexpected.
Noah Peterson
You think Snowden didn't realize that they would try to hunt him down? That he had to leave his job, friends and even gf behind? Maybe you can find some consolation if you know you pissed off some really top tier politicians, but honestly it's a big price to pay...
I think they already found their forums. Who knows, maybe they are lurking here every now and then. But why would they attention whore themselves?
There is no physical difference between a speaker and a microphone. So the idea is to remove all sensors of the device.
Michael Young
Is the Brave browser any good?
Wyatt Ramirez
> Who knows, maybe they are lurking here every now and then. Yep.
Jacob Ross
Because all cybersec nerds secretly wish to live in a Gibson-dystopia landscape shooting up synth drugs, netrunning, and fucking their androgynous cyborg gf [bf].
We're almost if not already there guys
Christian Taylor
>But why would they attention whore themselves? Oh I never expected that. I just found it surprising there would be enough people to keep so many separate message boards going considering alt.cyberpunk is now dormant again and this general relies on the combined efforts of /cyb/ and /sec/. And incidentally I see we are on page 9 again.
Liam Garcia
I don't think heroes exist in our world, but Snowden might be as close as you can get. Also note that he fucked off to China or whatever before he released everything to the media. He knew he was throwing everything away.
Luke Ward
Are networking books worth buying as a beginner? I've got some money to spend solely on books and I thought I could get one but I don't know if I should just avoid them and read things online
Carson Jackson
>There is no physical difference between a speaker and a microphone. Well. Normally a speaker is connected to an audio output. If then this can be turned into an input or otherwise rerouted to an input it would seem to be designed with evil intents.
Ayden Sullivan
I've heard great things about TCP/IP Illustrated
Colton Butler
Yea, it's actually on the list of books I'm considering. Although I'm not sure if it's too complex and detailed for me. I know that wanting to "learn networking" is vague to say. I'd like something that covers more or less the most important parts of systems and networks. TCP/IP does look neat but I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for
Adrian Butler
How can you rent Google Drive, Amazon Drive or a similar service anonymously? Any cloud storage is fine really, but it needs to be fast world-wide. Dedicated servers would be okay too, but in my experience the cheap ones all require ID when you try to order with prepaid CCs.
Adrian Fisher
Free market doesn't work. Just admit it.
Your best bet is to not use the cloud. Your second best bet is to use OwnDrive or something like that.
Joshua Bennett
the only thing keeping the oligopoly from becoming a monopoly is the regulation forcing big isps to lease their lines to smaller isps. you can't honestly believe that regulation is what keeps the big isps in power?
Easton Moore
then why is it that there is no competition in amerifatlandia? if it isn‘t isps buying government influence (brought to you by regulationTM) to keep the barrier of entry high and competition out, then what‘s the cause of your shit situation? genuinely curious since idk much about the land of the 56% mud people, but don‘t tell me that you would be in this situation if you had a hong kong-esque free market
Henry Gomez
Start with CCNA.

Hello, > here
Thank you for your help before. In short, multiple of my online accounts have been tried to login recently. It started with my 2 emails and twitter account. All login attempts were "unsuccesful syncs", and they did not specify wheter a correct password was used or not. Now few days later, my youtube account was attempted to be logged in to, and this time it specified that they had used the correct password. Curious is, that I haven't even tried to login to this youtube account for months.
So what I'm hoping the case is, is that my PC is not infected, but rather there has been a new leak of email / password combinations, some of which could contain some of my info. My youtube password was the most common and insecure password I use, so it does support my theory. It's just a bit a scary, because so many of my different accounts have been targetted in a matter of 4-5 days, and multiple times.
As someone pointed out in the last thread, virus scans wont find everything, but I've still ran Microsot scan, Avast scan, and malwarebytes scan (2 times), all of which came clean. So my question is this: Should I still be worried that my PC is infected, or is it ok to assume this has been happening due to a leak?
Someone in the last thread suggested I share the IPs for blocking, so here they are.
>be a college dropout working as a systems tech >learn a lot about network/security on my own >actually land a job as a network security analyst despite no degree, less than a year in IT, and no certs >getting laid off next month because the company lost their biggest client
now I have
Daniel Phillips
You should probably be worried if you've visited any unknown websites, maybe from links in emails or downloaded email attachments.
Have you proactively been updating your passwords to ensure they're secure?
Interesting that 135.0.101.210 is a Canadian IP and all the others are assigned in asia
Christian Hernandez
Get references and connections with people you work with now. You will not have to worry if you can do this bare minimum.
Blake Adams
>Should I still be worried that my PC is infected, Yes. You cannot be reasonably certain until you boot from a known good CD and then perform the search. The number one task of a root kit is to hide itself.
>or is it ok to assume this has been happening due to a leak? As they say: "if there is any doubt then there is no doubt." The best solution is to save your data and do a complete reinstall. Also add a firewall on a separate machine to stop data from being exfiltrated.
Robert Lee
>135.0.101.210 A quick search shows a lot of Chinese web pages discuss this particular IP number. Not a good sign.
