For the last decade I've been running ZoneAlarm Free. This shit is slowing my system down, a lot.
>I kept it because it prompts EVERY time a new, unrecognised process starts to run. >This saved me a few times from installing add-on malware/bloatware,...
any recs?
Colton Taylor

Jace Morris
Second question, do I have to format my drive and start fresh, to be truly done with this shit?
Ian Harris
Yes, actually. Formatting is the best method to regain greater speed and performance you had before
And assuming you're using Windows 10, switch to Windows 7 Ultimate 64x while you're at it. This time, be more careful when you're installing programs that you need.
Luke Gutierrez
Oh no, the problem is far worse I'm on win 8.1, on a relative cheaply built Toshiba I bought it because the i7 and the dedicated Nvidia GPU It sucks because toshiba's driver support is shit
Colton Cox
Why do you need Toshiba's drivers exactly? You can grab the drivers of your GPU and your processor directly from their respective sites.
And is it a laptop? If so, you should have bought a normal personal computer instead.
Lincoln Brooks
First you need a firewall, a sandboxing and adblock.
Jayden Diaz
Latest security updates from your respective operating system Windows Defender if you're using Windows Common Sense™ 2018
William Miller
Is Microsoft's default security suite actually good?
Ryder Cook
No. You should use the mbsa to test the security.
Charles Wilson
>Windows Defender Why not something that is actually good? Look at av-test.org test results
Blake Perry
Probably he want something free and light.
Mason Reed
firefox 57.0.1, umatrix, ublock medium mode, decentralyze, 3rd party cookies disabled
Thats all I need because I dont dl bullshit from bullshit websites.
Alexander Morgan
Common Sense 2018 beta uBlock Origin, preferably on Firefox uMatrix (optional) Firewall enabled Preferably a Linux based OS
Hudson James
>beta You should try the nightly
David Walker
Everything I’ve used except web root is overly bloated. Web root has the most useful features in one program yet uses the least amount of memory. If you’re going to have something conceivably superfluous like an anti virus you may as well go with the most lightweight one.
Blake Cooper
Are you really trying to say he shouldnt buy a laptop and only a desktop? Jesus christ the autistic elitism is off the charts.
Christian Gomez
No you don’t. You need to learn how to use the fucking internet. I haven’t used antivirus in virtually my whole life.
Christian Morgan
Malwarebytes is not an antivirus, it’s antimalware, it doesn’t detect rootkits and Trojans.
If you guys are really so retarded you need someone to protect you from yourself on the Internet, use ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky.
Easton Wood
>actually using Toshiba software. Do yourself a favour. Reinstall windows 8.1 from a fresh .iso straight from MSDN. You probably won’t have wifi so download Ethernet driver and wifi driver direct from Toshiba support site BEFOREHAND, and store on a USB drive. Install those drivers after, then get your graphics driver from Nvidia, then check device manager for flags and download ONLY the drivers and NOT the utilities for any flags in devmanager. Touchpad driver from Toshiba - pick Synaptics driver only, no shitware other drivers. And you’re done.
Benjamin Garcia
I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm careful and I don't do stupid things, so I don't really need an AV. But I'm also afraid not running one at all. So, I settled for Microsoft Security Essentials which comes with my OS and is very basic and light. Or at least I thought it was light until I've seen pic related. Now I'm contemplating replacing it with Eset or Bitdefender.
Jaxon Rogers
ClamAV
Isaiah King
NOD32 Antivirus only.
Justin Hughes
I use comodo. No complaints.
Cooper Mitchell
Microsoft Security Essentials; I use it on my server + all client computers. Works pretty good plus it's lightweight
Dominic Cox
What the fuck is ZoneAlarm.
Gabriel Harris

Jordan Bell

Lincoln Ward
Gentoo
Tyler Cruz
ClamWin
Kayden Reed
I sed Comodo suite as well for a long time. They tried to stop true Free version, but then continued it eventually. That being said the moment they switched interface to that shit they use now I dropped Comodo. It hapened like 4 years ago already? Not sure, maybe more than that.
Anthony Garcia
Install Avast
Carson Howard
What do you use for scanning? Is ClamWin as good as the others? Does it keep up to date?
I've been using CommonSense for a few years and never tried to do a scan. I want to see if my CommonSense is not bugged.
Logan Bell
Used F-Secure recently
Elijah Nelson
ESET as your main antivirus and Avira PC cleaner, Emsisoft Emergency Kit as your "second opinion" portable antivirus.
Alexander Hughes
but i'm too much of a beta to go out at night
Isaiah Perry
Just install avast with custom install and choose the minimal setup (just file and web shields)
Cooper Wood
Buy Bitdefender from some Indian off ebay
Xavier Rivera
built in windows 10 is enough but if youre paranoid use malwarebytes just scan before opening it if you want active protection go with bitdefender. no nagging free, minimal gui and fast. i install bitdefender on normie friends laptop and desktop
