i have a nox colbayx sx, which includes a front fan and a rear fan. The technicians who built the computer didn't connect them anywhere, and i already have a fan (Scythe Katana 4)
is it worth to use them?
I didnt even know it had two fans. I didnt choose the components since i dont know much about this stuff.
the nox fan is the one included with the box, the other is the scythe

Alright homos I'll be playing games on a 1080 monitor (WoW mostly) and have decided on the 1070 card. Now I need a cpu to match it with. I'm comfortable buying any of these but am not sure what to choose;
>8400 >8600k (wouldn't overclock) >8700

Eso es de pccomponentes? Hay que ser mongolo para no conectar los ventiladores, claro que vale la pena conectarlos. No es muy dificil, mira en el manual de la placa los conectores 3-pin or 4-pin para fans.
Nicholas Cox
>8400 more than adequate, overkill in fact >8600k this is the processor I recommend for anyone building a gaming system at this time, but why bother if you're not going to OC it? >8700 or anything else above an i5 unnecessary for gaming, you're not going to see meaningful gains over the 8600k.
Brandon Turner
I would consider OC'ing but I'm not sure, never done it before. What would change in my build if I do, only my cooler choice right?
Adrian Bennett
William Adams
I'm running a 212 evo (can't recommend it enough, seriously it is the furthest you will ever stretch $30) and I have my 8600k clocked up to 4.5ghz up from the base clock of 3.6. under load it tops out at about 55c so I have headroom if I wanted to push it even further, but that's not necessary at this time. a lot of modern gaming-oriented motherboards' BIOS will have an auto-detect function built in that assesses your system and sets it to whatever it decides is your highest safe OC for your processor. you can usually push it further than that and be fine but if you just want to quickly OC and not tinker around it's the most convenient thing

I'm looking for a new GPU, since my HD5770 is getting pretty old and the fans are dying again. Problem is, my main monitor doesn't have any digital input, only 2 VGA, and I'm not changing it. I don't want to use a HDMI/DVI/DP/whatever to VGA adaptor, because they're all shit, and max out at 1920x1080/60Hz. So I'm stuck with previous gen cards, since the latest ones won't have any DVI-I. I'm looking at GTX960, OC or not. First are OC cards really worth the premium ? Second, should I settle for a 2GB card, or is it worth it to go for the 4GB cards ? I'm playing in 1920x1200/85Hz, no VR or fancy stuff. I haven't been able to play modern games for quite a time, and my backlog is getting longer and longer.

Maybe a stupid question but Im going to buy a new mobo with all external usb ports being 3.0 I need atleast 2 usb 2.0 ports to install Windows because I dont have an optical drive and I had problem installing windows on 3.0 ports in the past. Have modern motherboard ös fixed this problem yet? The mobo Im getting is asus z270-A.
Levi Brown
>a saber si se me han medio jodido los componentes Hombre antes de llegar a temperaturas que causen daños de golpe irreversibles, el cpu o gpu hace throttling (digamos que baja la potencia para emitir menos calor) o directamente se apaga de golpe todo el pc.
Pero aun asi tener los componentes en una caja con bastante calor les acorta la vida util, digamos que petaran antes que si estuviesen bien refrigerados.

Ive been on a FX-6300 for the last 4 years and i want to get off Piledriver and DDR3 2133mhz. Moneys tight, so at the moment im just trying to set myself up with the new generation hardware so that if i need to upgrade the CPU (which i will in the future), i can do so without breaking the bank replacing everything else. At the moment, both the i3-8100 and Ryzen 3 1200 outperform my current FX-6300 at 1080p 60hz gameplay.
If i go with Ryzen i only save $31, but im trying to make the best decision on the ability to upgrade in the future. Coffee Lake lets me upgrade to the i7-8700k with a Passmark of 16,267 while Ryzen only has the 1800X with a Passmark of 15,432, granted Passmark isnt everything but it gives an idea or what im looking at. Would there be a chance that AMD could have a new AM4 lineup that beats out current Ryzen? What about Intel? Thoughts?
Isaiah Gonzalez
>fx-6300 for 4 years
I am so sorry
Eli Gomez
Main thread is still up. Don't start a new one and clutter up the board until you're old one hits its bump limit, which out won't for hours.
If the ability to upgrade is something you care about, Ryzen without a doubt. AMD already said Ryzen 1, 2, & 3 will be supported by the am4 socket. Meanwhile Intel has been using the same physical LGA1151 socket since Z170/Skylake, and artificially restrict you from using new chips on old boards. Or new boards with old chips. The R3-1200 will shit stomp you FX-6300 in just about everything. Go the Ryzen route, and down the road you could always pick up a gen 2 Ryzen or a cheap used R7-1800X. Both of which will be a drop in upgrade with nothing more than maybe a BIOS flash.
t. Guy who had an FX-6300 @ 5.0ghz and thinking moar coars is better, had an FX-9590 @ 5.4ghz. I popped 2 VRMs on my 990FX sabertooth pushing for 5.5ghz :(
Leo Anderson
>and artificially restrict you from using new chips on old boards. Or new boards with old chips. this is wrong. only coffee lake is incompatible because they changed the pci lanes. skylake will work on a kaby board though kaby won't work on skylake.
and while amd promises the cpu will fit, there's not guarantee the mobo manus will keep them updated. you run into this problem more often than people realize with amd. I fell for the "upgrade path" 8 years ago, never again
if you want a headache free experience, go with intel and nvidia; if you want to save a buck and fiddle with things, amd/ati. both will require you to get a new board when you get a new cpu.

Didn't get to see any responses to my post in the last thread, but tl;dr
I'm trying to transition from babbys first "gaming" laptop to compact desktop. Thinking about mini itx motherboard, coffee lake i5, and one of those nifty cube looking cases. What I need to figure out now is: >gpu (really doesn't need to run 4K at 100fps, just something that will run games comfortably) >the actual motherboard >whether ssd or hdd is the move. I may in fact be too retarded to run both together
Budget is about $800-900

Why the fuck does my VG2401 only do 119.9Hz?
It specifically says in the product description that it does 144Hz. I've read the user guide and saw nothing mentioning how to increase the framerate to 144Hz. It never even mentions 120 or 119.9.

Could be because that's the Freesync range. IIRC Freesync1 usually started at 48FPS. Also long as you qualify for the Low Framerate Compensation I think you're fine unless you see some kind of sync issue that manifests itself as strobe-like stuttering (framerate will be high but there is CONSTANT micro-hitching. I've had this type of issue a lot on my non Freesync monitor that loved to run at 59.9Hz) One thing you could do is check under Display Settings --> Display Adapter Properties --> Monitor and check the available Hz settings You can also create custom resolution / Hz profiles in Radeon Settings
Luke Gray
>I think you're fine unless you see some kind of sync issue that manifests itself as strobe-like stuttering Do you have an example of what that might look like?
I've been noticing something lately that I don't remember being an issue before this upgrade, although I've only seen it so far through videos on Youtube so it might not actually be on my end.

Not him, but there are basically three good Coffee CPUs out right now: i5 8400, i7 8700, i7 8700K. Hard to find the locked CPUs in stock, so some people are driven to buy the remaining CPU, the i7 8700K, despite the fact that for most people the performance available will go unused, until some hypothetical later point.
If you can choose between the i5 8400 and i7 8700 you need to ask yourself whether you need multithreaded power for something like rendering or streaming. If you're just gaming, the i5 8400 can max out every current graphics card at 1080p (which means the lowly i5 is, in itself, overkill for most people gaming, since most will have a midrange graphics card).
In your case, if your monitor is 60Hz, you'll see no benefit from the i7 because the i5 will run WoW at over 60FPS
Check CPU benchmarks with WoW with your graphics card

Hi /pcbg/. Canadacuck here. Is a sub-$900 CAD (not incl taxes) all AMD build possible? I want an R5 and a mid range video card. Going all AMD because of open source AMD drivers on Linux, especially interested in doing some cool Vulkan and OpenGL development.
I want mid range instead of lowish-end (which would be fine for basic 3d dev) because I want to play games on Windows as well. I don't need 4k @ ultra high settings, I'd be happy with 1080p@60fps for medium-high settings. I mostly playing fighting games like Tekken 7.

Hey fellas, just built a new rig and looking into getting a 2k monitor. Was planning on keeping my current monitor for a dual monitor set up, not for in-game use though.
My current monitor is a ASUS VS247H-P 23.6", was looking at getting this ASUS on newegg, it's only 220 with a promo code, but I don't think it has g-sync, also it's borderless so it won't match well with my current monitor, but I know finding a perfect match is probably almost impossible.
Monitor I'm looking at is called a ASUS VX24AH Black 23.8, can you guys let me know if it's trash or not before I pull the trigger? Don't really want to spend more than $250 so I might have to wait on getting a 2k monitor, not sure.
Andrew Garcia
I wouldn't get a 2k monitor unless you can opt for something with some sort of framsyncing technology. 2K is right in that sweet spot where some guys run too fast to turn vsync off, while others run too slow leave it on.
I pray I never have to ever buy and use another monitor ever again that doesn't have freesync or gsync and have to go through that nightmare again.
