It's your own fault if you can't disable and customize the services you are using. There is no need to experience any of that if you know at least the minimum basics of computer usage. My Win10 never does any of that.
Sometimes people are posting screenshots on other boards and most often every single one of them have Cortana and the search bar enabled, it's on the task bar. What is wrong with people, do they not know how to setup the operating system? It is completely possible to avoid most of the stupid shit Win10 does. I'm pretty happy with it, I use it for audio and graphics plus vidya. Linux is for tinkering and security essential stuff but as a half normie I don't have much such stuff going on.

Do you still get valid, proper updates from Microsoft? I'd love to install custom WIN10 but I'm afraid there is something wrong with it. And the OS still needs active support because they need to patch in security issues and other stuff.

Forgot to ask - how is the compatibility with software and games? I run Houdini and some audio software like Reaper with Asio drivers and tons of VST plugins. I also game from time to time. Does that stuff also work out of the box?
Pirating LTSB doesn't sound very good option because in the past I think I pirated WIN7 and at some point it became impossible to update it etc. Also possibility of hidden malware.

That's because the maintenance scheduler is broken in Windows 10. Back in Windows 8, Microsoft was trying to make updating easier by setting up a single task for Windows Update and all third party applications to hook into to do their updates and routine maintenance. The beauty of this was that you could set the task to fire at 2 AM, and Windows would start up the computer and let everything run so it would be fresh for you in the morning. Of course, once the so-called "power users" caught wind of this, they decided that disabling this task would be a great way to stop Windows from updating. So Microsoft did away with the maintenance task in Windows 10, but they left the maintenance scheduler. Since the maintenance scheduler tries to provide certain guarantees about the frequency at which maintenance tasks run, this means that stuff like Windows Update and telemetry that wants to run daily is always overdue. So the maintenance scheduler runs these tasks every day, as soon as you boot your computer, even if you're actively using it. It also means that there's no easy way to keep a computer updated while you're on vacation and ready to use when you come back.

Moral of the story: fuck "power users", they ruin it for everyone.

Yup, Windows 10 is terrible. It's what made me switch to Linux and then to macOS. Who at Microsoft thought it was a good idea to show ads in a paid OS? Or to start an update randomly with only 15 minutes notice? One day, I was working on a project and I went to the kitchen to make myself some food. I left the computer on and when I returned, Windows was updating itself and I wasn't sure I saved my project. Thank god I did, but that was the last straw for me. I seriously hope Microsoft reconsiders continuously updating Windows 10 and that they have started work on the next Windows 'cause this one's a mess.

Fuck everything about Windows updates. I set up a lot of different computers at work, and updating them fully can take 2 days, even with Microsoft's own computers, and that's if they don't fuck up when downloading the updates, forcing you to delete the cache and start again.

Then, when you're finally logged in, you discover that the update removed vital functionality, like when they removed Advanced Display settings. Some of our customers require setting the size of menu items etc. individually. Have to do it with heavy registry hacking now.

I can't stand this piece of shit, something fucked up when it was doing an update, it crashed my computer into a blue screen then it restarted and now a lot of applications i try to launch crash on start up (steam, discord, speccy, etc)

I can't even access the context menu when i right click on the windows logo and if I try to use the shut down options from the ctrl+alt+delete menu, it just gives the pic related error.

After scanning the computer, it turns out i have corrupt system files and none of the given tools or commands manage to fix them, thanks a lot MicroJew. Ended up trying a windows reset but the installation and everything is still ongoing. I wish I would've just stayed at Win7 or 8, far less trouble like these.

Yep same here. Went to visit parents over christmas, updated laptop yesterday, 3 hours of download and instalation, now stuck in blue screen and cant even boot anymore. Cant restore, cant reset, can fix it through dos command lines, cant enter safe mode or drivers disabled mode, nothing. The partition simply is dead. After the first update I had the same issue as you: corrupt file made it impossible to launch half the applications. Good one, now I have a reason to instantly leave after lunch on the 25th since my boot partition at home uses w10 pro and doesnt even have to deal with all this auto update bullshit. The guy who came up with this shit needs to be hung in the streets for everyone to see it.

I disagree. Though bloated, Windows 7 was really good. Windows 2000 was also great. They're stable with a well rounded UI and just work for day to day tasks. XP however was an absolute shitshow with a babyish UI and constant blue screens of death. And to top it all off, you can't really use it on modern hardware if you have an SSD because it'll eat through it in like a year.

Works fine with all my development software, though I mostly use Fedora for that. Firefox, Deluge, VLC, and other common software works fine. A bunch of 2000 and XP era games that are 32-bit work fine. As for newer games, all I have is Minecraft but I rarely play it. Drivers work fine for everything in my laptop. I get all the same security updates as the other enterprise versions. If you're worried about malware, learn to check hashes and don't be a retard.

There's not a good reason to use it over the 2016 version.

Overall it's just a better feature set than 7 and doesn't look like absolute horseshit. Search works better, explorer has seen improvements, supports multiple desktops, you can enable SSH, you can even go full blown docker and linux if you want, it's just got a lot more going on. 7 comes across as very outdated whenever I have to use it at work. 7 isn't unusable or anything but given the choice I'd run 10 on everything.

I've managed to "sanitize" it as much as possible, turning off and disabling unnecessary and malicious/annoying/stupid things, even managed to kill off Cortana completely, and I use Classic Shell instead of the retarded-assed setup it comes with, but to be honest I also killed off some functionality in the process. Overall it's a shitty, invasive, overreaching piece of malware/spyware/adware and I'd rather have NO computer at home than ever have Windows 10.

Windows asked me to update earlier today. I told it to snooze and remind me in three days. I go out for dinner and when when I come back and wake it from sleep it's working on updates and more in suck here phoneposting.

Either go into Management/Services and Stop Windows Update and set it to Disable, or open a command prompt and do a NET STOP on it. Don't re-enable/restart it unless you're actually ready to let it update.
