As soon as I get my Y700 I’m gonna remove the shitty air filter and the anti-glare film. Anything else I should do to make this thing high speed no drag?

Get right of your iShit trash.
Yes install gentoo
What's wrong with the air filter and anti glare film? I own a couple of y700 laptops.
I added an SSD to one of them and it's blazing fast on GNU/Linux
After reading some reviews apparently the screen is brilliant after you remove the plastic film. Also, the air filter barely lets air through and heats up the CPU
Christ, what an ugly machine.
>buying chink shit spyware ridden Lenovo
Thanks user, I'll check it out. Maybe I will remove the air filter and plastic film from the laptop that I use indoors.
I use one of those laptops for outdoor activities (ground control computer for an UAV), so I guess removing the anti glare thing would make the screen perform worse under direct sunlight
>not running Gnu/Linux and windows 7 on it
>installing lenovo bloat
It's a decent machine, it works great for GIS stuff, battery life is decent for the hardware it has, and I can even do medium-light photogrammetry processing on it
Is GIS geographic Informatic Systems or other thing?
There’s spyware in the firmware too.
You should install a k&n filter on it, the factory one is way to restrictive. Expect 10-15fps gains across the board.
Yes, basically it's a fancy word for digital maps, you can use photogrammetry software to create 3d models and maps with data captured with UAVs, and then use GIS software like QGIS to add/classify whatever data you want on your map.
Source? Maybe you're talking about ME, that's not a lenovo specific issue.
Get an Inspiron 15 gaming instead it's only $750 now for the 1050ti model with 256 m.2 and all parts upgradeable/cleanable
I know how to do the basics of QGis and use Argis and stuff, im on my third year at uni for a Geography, and GIS stuff seems like the only good part of the career
That's really cool, user. Where are you planning to work once you finish uni?
Look it up yourself. It’s everywhere.
I don’t see that anywhere, I think the Dell website is broken... got a link?
Mine came with a Samsung Pcie SSD. Has space for a 2.5 drive when expansion is wanted. Best of all this laptop has much more battery life and way better trackpad than the Lenovo shit, just look it up on notebookcheck.
Not him, but I have an Inspiron i5577, paid $850 for it and I get well over 60fps in modern titles. Has a 1050 and an i5. Great Linux support if you use the integrated gpu rather than the dedicated one (press e in grub on livecd, modprobe.blacklist=nouveau, press F10)
Thanks guys I’m gonna pick that up today. Does adding a hard drive void the warranty though?
I don't think so.
They make it purposely user upgradeable, even the WiFi card is easy to swap out. Thinkpad tier desu, just no hotswap on the battery
Would fabric softener sheets work fine as a replacement instead of the stock dust filter?
I removed the dust filter completely and the computer works substantially better in gaming/work applications, but I'd prefer a compromise between maintenance and performance, without the dust filter it will get dirty very quickly.
Maybe poking a bunch of small holes in the stock dust filter will do the trick?
Replace thermal paste with your own, they use super cheap stuff and it'll definitely make a difference.
