Indeed.

VIM is the best editor.

No it isn't
It's just a shitty cli text editor with a few shortcuts, it doesn't have a GUI, plugins and other shit that VSC has

Emacs with evil is best editor

>GUI
That's the point, yeah it doesn't have a GUI.
>plugins
It has plugins.
>and other shit
yeah m8

>Visual Studio Code is the best open source editor
ftfy
It is better than emacs or vim, in particular at things I expect a text editor to handle, like big files and somesuch thanks to a custom C++ textbuffer.
That said, it's still shitter than some proprietary editors at that.

Not possible when VIM and Geany exist.

Don't pay attention to those people who aren't really programmers ( i'm full web stack developer) and vsc is a really good text editor. If you work on angular+2 projects I suggest using webstorm.

By what definition do you not consider vim to be a GUI?

Mac OS has emacs and vim.

All OSes almost have vim or emacs..

>still can't open 2mb text files in less than 10 seconds
Into the trash it goes.

good for you!

spbp

Every OS has.
Terrible attempt at shilling, MacToddler.

Fuck JavaScript, fuck Electron and fuck Webdevs like you. "Full Stack". More like a full stack of shit.

because its not a fucking gui it's a terminal program

Eclipse with Vim plugins is the best IDE.

>Visual Studio Code collects usage data and sends it to Microsoft, although this telemetry reporting can be disabled.[20] The data is shared among Microsoft-controlled affiliates and subsidiaries and with law enforcement per the privacy statement.[21]
The state of Sup Forums.

Nice troll.

/sage in all fields

Why does the law enforcement care what I program?

this
VSCode is useful but microshit became worst than apple with all the spying bullshit.
Used to love windows now i fucking hate it, I wish games would run on linux so i never have to boot windows again

(You)

It's actually OK, but it's no emacs.

60% CPU for animating the blinking cursor.

best editor? perhaps
best tool for programming? fuck that
webstorm/intellij all the way

I agree.

Tell that to everyone using Chrome. They still keep using it for some reason.

What's the point of a fucking editor, anyway? The compiler sucks ass and there isn't even a proper debugger.

Best and probably the only thing MS has put out in 15 years actually worth using.

gtfo newfag

but does it have joe?

It's a nice editor, but it's built on cancer Electron...

>using Microsoft's compiler instead of gcc via the build in terminal

>needing a debugger
Are you going to make bugs user?

ed is the best editor

>not just using cmd

webstorm ffw

Is it good for java?

You spelled sublime text wrong.

For simple stuff, yes.
For a real project, you're better using the Jetbrains IDE or Netbeans

...

Out of my way plebs.

>it doesn't have a GUI
Uhh gvim?
Or is that not considered a gui in this context?

>Netbeans
What manner of beans are netbeans?

Botnet

>He installs russian spyware

Ewww lad

Vim has thousands of plugins, pajeet.

[whatever works for you] is the best editor.

It's pretty good.

I use it alongside nano

>using load high for the mouse driver
PATRICIAN

you can turn it off in the settings.not to mention atom sends analaytics data too just to google instead of microsoft.

But can you use it in a production environment or is it just a meme for plebs?

read the patch notes you idiorts

code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_19

see

Op,i think you forget toe -OSS part

>not to mention atom
Vim doesn't, though.

Nah, Jetbrain editors steal the cake.

/thread
Telemetry during compilation. Been doing this especially for c++ since 2015 at least

>not gvim
grow up

Guys, for real: is using emacs for pretty much everything really a meme? I know it's got a web browser and whatnot, but is it decent?

>Sup Forums still can't tell vscode and visual studio apart

>Telemetry during compilation
>only records module load events
>useless without pdbs
>removed in the next update

I think his point was why would you want a gui for editing text

meant to reply to

yes

Linus uses emacs

Vim purists are autismo. Just use VSCode with the Vim plugin so you can get the best of both worlds.

yes

Serious question:
I started using atom.io before Visual Studio Code was a thing.
I now only use atom.io because it's what I've become used to, but is it worth the switch?

Vim has way more plugins than VSC.
Also why would you want a bloated GUI for text editing?

/thread

Ok, but is this a GUI

compile it from their git repo without their additions if you care that much

I prefer micro, I'm not an autist and KISS is an important part of my programming philosophy

lol faggot

I enjoy VSCode but it has shit formatting rules for C#. Cant remember, but I think it doesnt recognize interfaces as a separate thing.

>VS Code for work, projects, etc.
>vim for quick edits, quick notes, system config files, etc.
top-tier fucking comfy.
