We already knew google was bad. But with the recent class action lawsuit and further revelations about the company, it’s clear we don’t want to be giving any of our data or money to google. Let’s compile a list of how to de-google, google products and their alternatives, and anything else we might need to do to get googles sticky paws off our privacy and data.
I’ll start: >Chrome Lots of alternative browsers here including Brave and Pale Moon. I’ll let others discuss this.
>ChromeOS Literally anything else.
>gmail Any suggestions?
>Stock Android IOS or custom ROM
>pixel/nexus phones
Any other phone.
>chrome book/pixelbook
Any other laptop. ChromeOS is shit anyway there’s no reason to buy these pieces of crap.
I've been degoogled about a year now. Browser - Firefox (yes is gave antifa money, yes its sjw but its """ secure"""" and honestly sick of browser hopping, go into the config file and make it your own, alternatively use waterfox)
Use Ublock origin and smart HTTPS revived, other addons are placebo tier.
OS - just use a linux flavor, or windows 7 until its support runs out
Gmail - protonmail, pay and you can get a VPN with it. Cock.li for non personal non essential email usage
Android - there's lots if roms, cyanogen/lineage doesn't have google services installed.
Moto G phones are nice
Avoid Acer, Lenovo or HP they tend to be shitty
Parker Lewis
Notable mention, use an RSS reader Feedly/liferea/feeder ect for news, blogs but most importantly YouTube subscriptions. I've found RSS YouTube subscriptions to be miles better than the actual YouTube sub management.
Brayden Rivera
>babbys first boycott
Wyatt Wood
>protonmail Not until they make their product actually usable without their shitty apps/web interface.
Daniel Moore
What's wrong with google?
Jace Wilson
>babbys firsts sarcastic greentext :D
Zachary Hall
Use youtube-dl. It takes up a lot of space if you subscribe to a lot of people, but I just delete it as I have watched it or decide to not watch it.
Lincoln Lee
Isn't there a user script that skip the captcha?
Anthony Ward
Gmail, I host my own using postfix. Drive, I use nextcloud. Contacts, calendar, I use nextcloud plugins. Phone, I use lineage + fdroid, for proprietary apps, I use yalp. Some things doesn't work but I don't need any of those so I am fine with what works. YouTube, youtube-dl on desktop, newpipe on phone. I whish there would be something better. Search, startpage although same as with YouTube.
Adam Bennett
>it’s clear we don’t want to be giving any of our data or money to google It's been clear for years, you're a bit slow on the uptake
Connor Rodriguez
That's not solving the problem, it's avoidibg it.
Tyler Green
Latest motog is Lenovo
Ryan Ramirez
>get dumb phone >finally cut off social media >make home server >buy domain and host personal email >interact with community more will kill my google account soon too namecheap had some sort of sweet deal and I got a domain for 5 years that only cost $8.88 total
Angel Brown
Isn't hosting your own email a nightmare of cipher problems and blacklisting? And then whenever you send email to @gmail.com it gets read by Google anyways? I've always been told it's not worth the effort.
Hudson Morales
Reminder that the only way to de-google is to block all ip addresses owned by alphabet subsidiaries.
Wyatt Hernandez
you're not getting properly encrypted email without a web interface / application user
also the apps aren't shit, they're fantastic. the protonmail client is the top rated email app on android ffs
Owen Reed
As long as you're not using starttls, it's the same.
Alexander Roberts
thats a little extreme, you can easily separate without doing that
Adam Powell
What is Google/Facebook gonna do with all this data decades from now?
Nathaniel Gomez
citizen profiling
Benjamin Sanchez
and building psychological profiles on you for targeted marketing/advertisements
Jaxon Baker
It's all or nothing.
Xavier James
>gmail Protonmail
Aaron Gray
Standard Firefox is good enough for privacy after some about:config tweaking. Autists and their meme forks can go fuck themselves.
Colton Brooks
Who the fuck even uses a Chromebook or ChromeOS in the first place?
Jeremiah Cox
Ain't gonna ever let you use email without at minimum their bridge application.
Every service they have provided thus far has been brilliant. No complaints and would shill it to everyone.
Easton Jenkins
I'm not fat tho
Zachary Hall
>Pale Moon lmao >Gmail Literally any other service, if you want privacy try cock.li
Ryder Rogers
Everything
Samuel King
Some public schools are having students use Chromebooks now.
Brayden James

John Powell
The same thing China is doing now. Assign each citizen a value score.
Dylan Moore
Ad blocking is essential nowadays.
Christian Reyes
What do you people use as search engine alternative?
DuckDuckGo is botnet, and I can't add SearX as my default search engine (I'm using Iridium). They don't seem to support passing a search via query string, and I cba to check the source.
Liam Jackson
Actually you can very well use searx with GET. I prefer POST as it doesn't leave traces, but you can set it to GET in the settings. Try searx.me/?q=installgentoo and watch the magic.
Joshua Sanchez
Yet another reason to homeschool your kids.
Cooper Garcia
>>gmail tutanota protonmail cock.li
Adam Davis
Yeah, so? Use ublock origin, or even better, change ad hostnames to be statically routed to 0.0.0.0. No need to use meme forks.
William Barnes
>>Stock Android custom rom with NO gapps installed
Nathan Hernandez
good comment
Aaron Adams
Fuck, completely forgot about this. Got any article with you? I need to read about this again.
Evan Rivera
This. If you use chromium, (((Brave))), or some autismo Firefox fork then you shouldn't reproduce.
Carson Cox
how do you automate your youtube-dl downloads? t. brainlet
Dylan Williams
Thanks user :)
I don't know how to make Iridium send POSTs yet, but I like the idea of not having my search in the URL.
Aiden Davis
>cock.li this
Justin Taylor
What's wrong with a de-googled chromium? I prefer the aesthetics of chromium over Firefox, especially after that new release.
I think treble will allow more people to have custom roms
William Russell
Palemoon is pretty decent, though.
Brody Brown
> browser Waterfox, it's literally Firefox without the bullshit
> phone OS LinageOS without Gapps (only microG), i checked and my phone is not pinging a single google server if i don't use apps that doesn't use the google play services
> mail I still use gmail (not the app but just the address), this is the last direct link i have with google.
> file sync Syncthing, it's better than google drive in every way, I also sync my photos to get rid of google photos.
> search engine Searx, it looks fucking great with a dark theme and it works really great
I just need to change my mail (maybe hosted by me) and i will be google free.
Ryan Brooks
Considering google own my android system I really don't see a point in trying to avoid google. Limit myself sure but avoiding is nigh impossible. Especially with the recent pinging system going on. People around you who have google phones can ping your phone and then the towers will always know where you are in relation to others.
Easton Perez
UwU
Ian Butler
I use Hooktube on desktop - it replaces the default YouTube video player with the HTML5 player. Maybe it's just a placebo, but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Colton Harris
how to set up Firefox
William Hernandez
I use edge on my tablet for now on, also use brave on my main PC. Search engine either bing or duckduckgo

For email, use Tutanota or Protonmail.
Ayden Sanchez
Any alternatives to Google maps and Waze?
Jaxon Moore
openstreetmap/osmand
Grayson Miller
Except one of them is free software and the other isn't. Both companies are trash though, I'll give you that. However, as long as Firefox itself remains Open Source and gives me the ability to configure it how I want, I'll keep using it.
