is it bad to keep a card overclocked for its entire use? as long as temps are low it should be fine right?
pic is my shit ass budget card i got, but when oc'd its actually pretty good.

2spooky4me
why did u post this here man?
...
...
That Sad Satan shit is pretty fucking creepy. The gameplay also is unsettling af.
What does he mean by this?
depends what your prime objective is ...
if it is to have the gpu functional for at least 3 - 5 years (medium - heavy use)
then obviously not
if you're the asshole kind that sells the gpu before the warranty runs out after using it heavily (mining) 24/7
then go for it ...
nah dont want to sell it
Depends on the voltage you used. I have an EVGA GTX 980Ti classified model. It boosts to 1480mhz out of the box. I added a bit more voltage (+50mv) and for 1600mhz out of it. Temps only went up 2C.
However if the card is at a stock voltage of say 1.1v and you crank the voltage to 1.4v it can result in instability over time yea. Just ask anyone who burnt out their Radeon 7950's.
>Sad Sata
Which one is it in the list?
My mistake, it found it by looking on a wiki page on something from that post
Here it is btw

On youtube the gameplay is also pretty fucking creepy
i actually undervolt whilst overclocking. apparently the card i have comes out the box with too much voltage already.
Then if anything, the card will last longer. The only thing about overclocking that can potentially kill a card is the increased voltage and consequently, the increased heat that comes with it. The higher speed itself doesn't hurt anything.
why the hell are u allowed to OC it that high?
Half of these are irrelevant rubbish.
Because I'm a fucking gangster
Not really. It's more so because my model of 980Ti was the big alpha dog when it came out. There wasn't a single other cad on the market that could clock as high, run as cool, or have the huge voltage regulator section that the classified does/did. I paid $850 for my card while everyone else was getting lesser models for $650-$710.
Their OC ceiling was where my card started though. On top of that, the classified has a BIOS switch. To get the 1600mhz clock, I have to use the LN2 BIOS. It increases the voltage and temperature throttles for a higher value so the card doesn't fall out of boost as easy.
Highest OC I ever achieved was 1675mhz on the core and +1200mhz to memory. However that was with a solid +125mv and 15C hotter when under load. Not worth the hassle Imo. So I dialed it back to +50mv, marginal temp increase, but I get 1600mhz on the core and +780mhz on memory.
nice. $850 is more than my whole PC cost lol
Everyone starts somewhere. My very first build was when I was 16.
>Athlon x3 (unlocked the 4th core and overclock the system to 3.2ghz) pulled out of an HO pre-built
>Gigabyte board I got for $30 refurbed
>Radeon 5570
>4GB ddr3 1066mhz (4x1GB sticks)
>Single 250GB mechanical I found in a scrapped PC on the side of the road
It was a Frankenstein's monster if a PC but it worked.
Sad SATA3
>burning out 7950's
i got a used one with a single jet engine fan, went to 70c being real loud like 3 years ago, was probably pretty old even then
lowered voltage from 1.1 to 0.9v with the same clock
i run it 0.8v(lowest i can)@650mhz most of the time and only reach a "cool" 65c with the fan silent
how much longer can i expect it to live?
it is impossible to damage a card just by using it. The card will throttle before any damage can happen.
Thanks for this.
