>Using windows

It's obvious it is

Their windows 10 is not hitting the percentage that microshit would desire, basically yes

Lmao as if I'm going to install your shitty gimping patches and microcode updates.

I'd rather deal with the performance hit than downgrade to Botnet 10

>using Windows voluntarily

>Not installing Windows 7 on a Zen machine

I have a 4 year old laptop with an 1.6 ghz i5 4200 processor. Makes me wonder if it's really worth it. Having windows 8.1 almost makes it worth it, but then again I'm not too keen on my games already suffering worse performance.

this user knows whats up

> buy our new APUs goy .. it's like the TV/VCR combos of the past
> What's that? You want more GPU power? Buy BFG and use (((our))) GPUs in the cloud
> Managed to somehow get your hands on a Pro-level priced consumer GPU?
Well goy, ram's going to cost you the same as a CPU.. you sure you want to go down that route vs the new segmented products we've provided you with?
Come on goy.. it's time for the big three : Intel/Nvidia/AMD to fuck you... pull your pants down

What kind of performance penalty do older chips suffer? Any gaymen performance drop or is it still just a problem for servers/databases?

My unbalanced q9550 + rx470 does not need any worse CPU performance.

God damn. I only ever use my Windows computer for some old gaymes anyway.

Just buy a new Intel(R) processor, goy.

Just days after articles popped up that Windows 7 was holding on to its user's share, and how Win10 wasn't gaining the traction everyone was expecting, now we have Meltdown and Spectre, and suddenly FUD about how older Windows versions are going to be hit harder when the patches are applied.

What a coincidence!

Enough, goy! It's merely (((coincidence))). there's nothing to be afraid of.

Cucks.

>Microsoft and Intel think I'm gonna apply these patches
>just too funny

I made the mistake of installing the latest update. Waiting for my laptop to show the blue screen of death at any moment.

No problems on my end senpai. Unless you're using AMD hardware anywhere in there, you're good to go.

Welp, i guess that means the next build for me will definitely be AMD + Win 7 Unbloated Pirated Version + Linux.
I'd rather eat shit than use Windows 10.

...

Unironically this.
Comfy AF, but I better dust off the inside since it's been a two months.

Am I saved?

Does this mean that the AMD FX processors are now an upgrade to Sandy Bridge users?

Just dont install the patches
I would never leave my waifu alone (or slow)

LTSB ain't that bad.

the non flawed Intel processors won't be out for at least 2 years

Mothefuckers. They know they can get away with this kind of shit so they are gonna make the patch hit windows 7 and 8 the hardest so users are obligated to update. This fuckers should be hanged for their corrupt practices.

JUST

Upgrade*

>this shit is real

They're just going to drive even more people away from windows; they just don't get it.

Patch mb USB 3 driver to win 7 installation USB and you're good to go.

it was all over Sup Forums around 2007

Win10 was slower to begin with

It is but people running W7 won't update anyway.

Right, and anyway I've already switched to Linux

I don't see any reason why your computer should suffer. The intel crap isn't doing it any favors, but what causes BSOD is AMD hardware for some odd reason. And I don't see that anywhere here.

Still, if you're concerned, I would keep a backup and monitor it over the course of a week, incase you want to roll back.

Never used AMD, what's their equivalent to Ivy Bridge? Are the cpus and mobos for their equivalent cheap?

>Microsoft's Terry Myerson said in a blog post that Windows 7 and Windows 8 users running older processors, like 2015-era Haswell or older chips, will be most affected by performance issues.
but what about later chips? I have an i5 6600K.

did you use the wufuc patch?

>keep a backup
How? (You can't imagine how old I am.)

at this point an FX 8300 or 8370E is the closest to an Ivy Bridge i7

>post bug fix of course

If you have a clean install of your version of windows, and you're worried, you can always reinstall. I think Sup Forums's wiki has some tips on that.

Alternatively, you can look for a system restore point taken before the updates. Just be cautious though. I'm not sure how all computers will handle it.

>look for a system restore point taken before the updates
This I can do. Thanks!

>Intel
No, buy AMD faggot, and in your case a good second hand AMD like a FX series

>Windows 7 and 8 on older hardware
>but not 10 on older hardware

REALLY makes you think..

>Is it planned obsolescence?
Yes. Isn't capitalism just great?

But AMD is the one at risk.

I see you are a young man user
Enjoy your time here because you will never know the joys of masturbating to XP porn

He was worried about BSOD post-patch. AMD would've screwed him over. Right now intel is just screwing him with performance loss.

and your read this where?

>inb4 intel

Intel is the lesser of two evils then?

>Waiting for my laptop to show the blue screen
That's only an issue on a few AMD models from over ten years ago.

>AMD would've screwed him over
Only if he had bought one of the first AMD64 chips and never upgraded, but decided to install Windows 10 on it.

No, it's just not the focus of his worries at this moment.

Is Bleeping Computer related to intel?

bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-pauses-rollout-of-windows-meltdown-and-spectre-patches-for-amd-devices/

>his
My. I am the VAIO grandpa.

Then redirect the comment to yourself. I would avoid buying any new CPUs for a little bit until all this mess blows over.

I have 3 Intel machines that didn't get bios patches; what can i do to protect myself from meltdown?

>bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-pauses-rollout-of-windows-meltdown-and-spectre-patches-for-amd-devices/
>all customer devices that use an AMD CPU.
>"After investigating, Microsoft has determined that some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided to Microsoft to develop the Windows operating system mitigations to protect against the chipset vulnerabilities known as Spectre and Meltdown," Microsoft said
>some AMD chipsets
High quality journalism right there.

Buy AMD.

My dude, I've got the exact same case

You don't need bios patches for meltdown. Just update windows regularly. As for spectre, the best current mitigation is to browse with a web browser that's up to date. Chrome and Firefox have protections in place to reduce the threat from spectr.

>install patches on macos
>it gets faster

>install patches on ThankYouSirCurryDows
>your system crawls to a halt
>it spies 50% more
>you need to install Windows 10™
>end up saying fuck it and buying a new system

Enjoy your microcuck tax, pajeets.

Yes it is. But it literally doesn't matter. The only thing you should use windows for is gaming. You'll only have pirated, DRM-free or steam games. Losing a bunch of pirated shit is nothing lost while steam has steam guard. Mumble doesn't need accounts. So you're 100% safe without patching your shitty OS and all your usage cases are covered.

How do I practice common sense 2018 without patches.

Offline only?

If so I will get myself another device for online, and keep my win7 for offline trusted installs and offline use only.

>Offline only?
Hope you didn't buy Intel.

Yeah, they've been doing everything they can to get people to stop using windows 7.

You're in no danger at all if you don't go online.

Its intel. Haswell gen.

I don't need to use online, I have a phone and a tablet.

But I don't want to lose remaining performance on my aged gtx780 OC,,

Question.

What stops me making 2x win7 system drives.

One patched and one unpatched, and simply booting the image as and when needed.

Are their obstacles to this I am missing?

8.1 is out of mainstream support as of yesterday I don't know how long 7 is but they don't need to put as much effort into fixing as long as it works

Does anyone have a more technical description of the attacks than all the shoveled "journalism" that's been published?

your bios ?

meltdownattack.com

Look for the two papers there

WInblows 10 is already slower.

Stupid question, What updates? I haven't updated my computer since early december on Win 8.1

Should I disable auto updates?

this
as if my windows 7 installation isn't already fucked and i couldn't update if i wanted to
just keep your browser up to date and use common sense antivirus

...

What's wrong with normies
>company fucked me
>oh I know I'll just buy their newest product

nobody who knows what a cpu is is a normie

yes

why for a second would you consider otherwise

Thanks homie.

What I dont yet understand is mentions of java script at the infection vector.

Then some g user s stated disabling, uninstalling java makes no difference.

So what is the entry point again?.. Thats what I dont get

So all these old sandy/ivy bridge chinkpads are useless now, at least on windows 7.....

windows 10 was already slow to start with. at least on 7 you get the choice.

It's not really a meme when I'm already running a decade old processor.

I'll just buy zen+.

Is the exploit reliant on open ports, java, malicious ads, I already block all of this, with firewall, and almost block scripts entirely on browser

still better than lolamd
>i7-8700k
>fucking shreks raisin in single core perf
>still has 6 cores

t. normie

>Not using 2 OS
Why do people do this to themselves Sup Forums?

Yea. And enable JavaScript.

Meltdown (the one that, so far, only affects Intel), can be performed as long as you can execute any code on a system. The real oh shit factor is that since we've moved almost entirely to virtualization for servers (Amazon hosts fewer but more powerful servers that create virtual servers for clients to host on so they can scale rapidly), a person using such a virtual server can execute unprivileged code and have it read the memory of the entire physical machine. Realistically, it's not as big of a deal on individual users' machines since, like you point out, we limit attack vectors as much as possible. The issue is is that any website you use, that has stores you password, social security, banking info, etc., that is hosted in a virtual environment can be read by anyone sharing that virtual environment.

Yep, worked like a charm.
I don't remember how I did it but I guess it was just running the wufuc installer or something into a folder.

>you need to install Linux
fix'd that for ya m8

or just use a ps/2 keyboard

lol Who the fuck uses linauxx?
