Convince a windows user to switch to linux

please don't we have enough shit already
No dealing with shitty microshit botnet and random updates that break everything ever again. If you get a normie newfag distro, you can set it to stable only updates and never have an issue again. JustWerkz™
anyone who'd start a thread like this either isn't ever switching, or already switched and wants to pretend to be a stupid windows user.
dont
linux is for people who, given their impotence in the real world, want to control at least the computers where they waste their days. but quickly you'll realize that it just isn't worht it.
wait for a de that doesn't inhale cocks to support wayland
What a garbage thread. If you don't want to switch, don't. If you do want to switch, try it in a VM first and go to the friendly Linux thread. If you're on the fence, try it in a VM and go to the friendly Linux thread. I think you're just shitposting, so the only solution to that is to kill yourself, faggot
Anything you need on windows can be done inside a VM via Linux
If you arent using windows for games i dont know why you havent already switched.
Sorry i cant be bothered to care what retards do with their miserable little lives.
>Pros
Pretty much free to download and install
Many mainstream software supports GNU/Linux now, not all, but some.
Usually more secure, but if you don't do stupid things on Windows, you should be fine also.
You can customize practically everything you want or install a different UI also known as a window manager or desktop environment.
You can even make it look and feel like Windows
Wine supports a bunch of Windows applications
>cons
Not all software is supported even with Wine.
Not all hardware is supported and you WILL need to learn how to use the terminal. I don't mind the terminal, but for someone who is new to GNU/Linux, they will have to do a bunch of Googling. Sometimes things work out of the box, but sometimes it won't and you will have a bad time if it doesn't.
If you want to try GNU/Linux, try it in a VM first or try a live boot of it. Google, google, google! Do that all the time when you have a issue.
I would suggest you give Ubuntu, Manjaro, or Fedora a try. Even Mint since it is based on Ubuntu. Elementary OS is another good distro, but I wasn't able to get it to work with my Ryzen CPU. I would suggest you stick with a distro based on Debian and Ubuntu for starters.
>but quickly you'll realize that it just isn't worht it.
I think you're too optimistic. Many people have so little going on in their lives that they get a much-needed sense of self worth by reinventing the wheel poorly every day
hit me with that e number daddy
>people who use Linux must not ever do anything else, and derive all of their value from using Linux
What is it like being so stupid?

Install gentoo.

Read the fucking thread, newfag
Doesn't work that way, it's like you were molested as a kid and we can't just tell you not to be gay
...
bcz windows iz gey fucking gaymer faggot kyskyskyskyskyskys
Despite lacking any of the polish of Windows, Linux is smaller, faster, less bloated, more efficient, and (if you are interested in computers or ricing) quite fun.
When i first tried Ubuntu i wasn't too impressed, but the more i look into this shit, and the closer i get to that ideal Linux OS (Alpine) the better my experience gets and the more i appreciate it.
Getting antiquated with Linux is also really good for resumes.
You shouldn't unless it helps your job, or you want a new hobby.
I use it as my main OS, and have for years. It doesn't help my job and I fail to see how using an OS for everyday use is a hobby
FYI, you have a keylogger on your PC that only happens with Windows. Some guy in India is most likely spanking it to your private photos. You may want to consider going to Linux before they steal your identity and use your info to trick others and buy stuff under your name. But hey, that's just me. I like having to not worry about that.
You tell me, you're the one using loonix.
Simply, do not.
It is a complete waste of time for anything other than ricing and programming, hell the UI is more dated than aero and even more trash than Windows 10. Arc and Nokto are so ugly and the only way to bypass them is to use other ugly themes or a tiling window manager and who the fuck, other than autists, wants that?
Mouse accell is trash tier, also.
You'd just end up using Wine or a VM anyway.
>move to Linux to get away from the botnet
>use Google
google is a verb
Wow, you really got me there. How stupid are you that you value other people based on the OS they use? That's like saying I think you're a child because you use Windows. It's a tool, something to get shit done. If it works for you it works for you, if it works for me then it works for me.

Been solid through a couple boots since then

does richard stallman's cock taste as salty as you'd imaged?

Why bother trying to convince you? It's your loss.
Here are the reasons I switched:
No activation needed, ever.
It's always the Ultimate/Professional version.
No bloatware.
No IE/Edge (yes, it's a feature).
(A LOT) Less malware.
Easy to upgrade to major versions.
You can still run Windows if you must.
It's mostly free and always gratis.

Linux has worked very well for me. Pro-tip, always install /home on a separate partition.

her name?
Linux uses less RAM than one chrome tab
It's actually sweet, like he was bathed in honey and anointed in holy oil.
just werks
You can better use system resources to increase your shitposting efficiency.
someone plz have mercy on me
>random updates that break everything ever again.
been using win10 for about two years now, and i've never had a microsoft update break anything. i am kind of wondering why the latest nvidia patch was 550MB, but i'm guessing it was mostly large bitmaps for advertising games i'll never play.
>Some guy in India is most likely spanking it to your private photos.
cinsidering my private photos, i expect he is more likely cowering in terror.
Windows 10 is bad. Really bad.
That's why I didn't bother installing it on my new machine.
I'm doing fine. No hiccups. I use Manjaro. I'm slowly getting over the update paranoia windows caused.
M-mommy?..
Holy fuck, I love you, user.
proprietary OSs are like never taking off the training wheels
Its the final requirement to become a wizard of loneliness
Check out all the "im just a chill humble coder btw if you couldnt already tell by the deep digital rain background anime girl i wrote in php & ncurse " screencaps in all the linux threads
If you want to fit in that badly and you haven't grown out of the "muh privacy" phase (or you're a pedophile like half the basement ghouls toting it) then let them convince you it's completely necessary OS replacement therapy transition for whatever unaffected bullshit you're doing.
Not sure you're ever gonna convince a windows user with that. It's more discouraging. Most people use an OS for facilitating their use of other people's programs. Even among the more hard-core being able to modify the OS isn't vital. It's mostly about it being out of the way.

Try it on VirtualBox. Kubuntu. Not Ubuntu, cause Gnome and unity are crap shit. KDE is most near to Windows UI convenience, but not the same..... .
Stick to windows and fuck off to Enough idiots here.

install gentoo you fucking retard
>Convince me to do something
windows users, everybody
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
update and reboot whenever YOU want
you'll be on it soon enough
I cannot convince you. There is no reason to do that.
You should ask yourself: "Why am I using Windows? What do I like, what do I dislike? What needs to change?" Only then is it that I can convince you to switch to linux.
you cannot switch, linux is very lowly supported like 99% of all aplications are on windows, you will use just windows or both
I'm terribly sorry for interjecting another moment, but what I just told you is GNU/Linux is, in fact, just Linux, or as I've just now taken to calling it, Just Linux. Linux apparently does happen to be a whole operating system unto itself and comprises a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Most computer users who run the entire Linux operating system every day already realize it. Through a peculiar turn of events, I was misled into calling the system "GNU/Linux", and until now, I was unaware that it is basically the Linux system, developed by the Linux project.
There really isn't a GNU/Linux, and I really wasn't using it; it is an extraneous misrepresentation of the system that's being used. Linux is the operating system: the entire system made useful by its included corelibs, shell utilities, and other vital system components. The kernel is already an integral part of the Linux operating system, never confined useless by itself; it functions coherently within the context of the complete Linux operating system. Linux is never used in combination with GNU accessories: the whole system is basically Linux without any GNU added, or Just Linux. All the so-called "GNU/Linux" distributions are really distributions of Linux.
no don;t
Solus Linux
Done.
Creative software (drawing, video editing, music)
The only one that's halfway decent is Krita.
If you need to be sold on it, it's not for you. As a GNU+Linux user for several years (and probably life), I remember there was a fair amount of bullshit switching over (nonfree firmware needed for my wifi). Thing is, I enjoyed fixing it. If you don't wanna have to do that stuff ever, if the thought of free as in freedom software and command line doesn't get you hard, if you have a 'hobby' (read:vice) such as gaymen just stick with windows.

>Nothing will just work
Entirely your fault for using a shitty distro. I've been using *buntu based distros for years and most things do actually "just work".
Sage in all fields and your mother will die in her sleep tonight, regardless of whether you reply to this post or not.
I don't waste my time for useless and stupid people like Windows users.
just run windows in a vm?
Not him but while I didnt got any truly breaking Win10 updates, one or two games were reported to stop working at all after one of "feature updates". Got fixed month later but still.
Thats all, everything else worked perfectly fine. I can uderstand not wanting "feature updates" in first place, most of them make system worse than it was before (removing Paint? hiding default applications selection? seriously?)
Windows users if you don’t switch to Linux your mother will die in her sleep tonight.
There's no need for dualbooting when you start yearning for your personal data being mined and vulnerabilities, you can run Windows within QEMU-virtual machine achieving up to 95% performance.
>550MB of update

The absolute state of windows user
Anyway, dont switch to Linux
Hackers use it! That means it's really good!

Finally someone uses this pasta and OP doesn't respond. Fucking like it.
